When driving

When stopping the engine with the shift lever in a position other
than P (vehicles with a Multidrive)
If the engine is stopped with the shift lever in a position other than P,
the “ENGINE START STOP” switch will not be turned off but instead
be turned to ACCESSORY mode. Perform the following procedure to
turn the switch off:
Check that the parking brake is set.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Check that the smart entry & start system indicator light
(green) flashes slowly and then press the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch once.
Check that the smart entry & start system indicator light
(green) is off.
Auto power off function
Vehicles with a Multidrive
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is
not running) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the “ENGINE
START STOP” switch will automatically turn off. However, this function can-
not entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for
long periods of time when the engine is not running.
Vehicle with a multi-mode manual transmission and manual transmis-
sion
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is
not running) for more than an hour, the “ENGINE START STOP” switch will
automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent battery
discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods of time when the
engine is not running.

Starting the hybrid system
Check that the parking brake is set.
Check that the shift lever is set in P.
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Turn the engine switch to the
“START” position to start the
hybrid system.
Continue depressing the brake
pedal until the hybrid system is
completely started.
Check that the “READY” indicator is on.
If the “READY” indicator changes from a flashing light to a solid
light and a beep sound, the hybrid system is starting normally.
The vehicle will not move when the “READY” indicator is off.
The vehicle can move when the “READY” indicator is on even if
the engine is stopped. (The gasoline engine starts or stops auto-
matically in accordance with the state of the vehicle.)

Stopping the hybrid system
Stop the vehicle completely.
Shift the shift lever to P. (P. 250)
Set the parking brake. (P. 269)
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position to stop the
hybrid system.
Slowly release the brake pedal and check that the
“READY” indicator is off.
Changing the engine switch positions
“LOCK”
The steering wheel is locked
and the key can be removed.
(The key can be removed only

Some electrical components

When stopping the hybrid system with the shift lever in a
position other than P
If the hybrid system is stopped with the shift lever in a position other
than P, the engine switch will not be turned off but instead be turned
to “ACC”. Perform the following procedure to turn the hybrid system
off:
Check that the parking brake is set.
Shift the shift lever to P. (P. 250)
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position to stop the
hybrid system.

conditions
It may take time until the “READY” indicator comes on.
If the hybrid system does not start
The immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. (P. 155)
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional.
Push in the key and turn it to the “LOCK”
position.

Power (ignition) switch (hybrid vehicle [vehicles with an electronic key])
Performing the following operations when carrying the electronic
key on your person starts the hybrid system or changes “POWER”
switch modes.
Starting the hybrid system
Check that the parking brake is set.
Check that the shift lever is set in P.
If the shift lever is not set in P, the hybrid system may not be
started. ( P. 250)
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
The smart entry & start system indicator light (green) will turn on.
If the indicator light does not turn on, the hybrid system cannot be
started.
Press the “POWER” switch.
Continue depressing the brake
pedal until the hybrid system is
completely started.
The hybrid system can be
started from any “POWER”
switch mode.

If the hybrid system is stopped with the shift lever in a position other

Auto power off function
When the shift lever is in P, if the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or ON mode
with the hybrid system not operating for more than 20 minutes (ACCES-
SORY mode) or one hour (ON mode), the “POWER” switch will automati-
cally turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent 12-volt battery
discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the “POWER” switch in ACCES-
SORY or ON mode for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not
operating.

Maximum allowable speeds
Observe the following maximum allowable speeds in each gear.
Es mode automatic deactivation
Es mode is automatically deactivated if the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
(vehicles with a smart entry & start system) or the engine switch (vehicles
without a smart entry & start system) is turned off after driving in Es mode.
If the shift lever cannot be shifted
With the shift lever in N
Depress the brake pedal to shift the shift lever. If the shift lever cannot be
shifted with your foot on the brake, there may be a problem with the shift
lock system. (P. 614)
With the shift lever in a position other than N

If the driver's door is opened when the shift lever is in a position other
than N and the engine is running
A buzzer will sound. Close the driver’s door.
If the parking brake is set when the shift lever is in a position other
than N with engine running
When the driver’s door is opened
A buzzer will sound and the gear position will automatically change to N
in 10 seconds.
When the driver’s door is closed
A buzzer will sound and the gear position will automatically change to N
in 90 seconds.
