Where to go for maintenance service?
In order to maintain your vehicle in the best possible condition, Toyota recom-
mends that maintenance service operations as well as other inspections and
repairs be carried out by authorized Toyota dealers or repairers or other duly
qualified and equipped professionals. For repairs and services covered by
your warranty, please visit an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, who will
use genuine Toyota parts in repairing any difficulties you may encounter.
There can also be advantages in utilizing authorized Toyota dealers or repair-
ers for non-warranty repairs and services, as members of the Toyota network
will be able to expertly assist you with any difficulties you may encounter.
Your Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional will perform all of the scheduled maintenance on your vehicle reliably
and economically due to their experience with Toyota vehicles.
Does your vehicle need repair?
Be on the alert for changes in performance and sounds, and visual tip-offs
that indicate service is needed. Some important clues are:
Engine missing, stumbling, or pinging
Appreciable loss of power
Strange engine noises
A fluid leak under the vehicle (However, water dripping from the air condi-
tioning after use is normal.)
Change in exhaust sound (This may indicate a dangerous carbon monoxide
leak. Drive with the windows open and have the exhaust system checked
immediately.)
Flat-looking tires, excessive tire squeal when cornering, uneven tire wear
Vehicle pulls to one side when driving straight on a level road
Strange noises related to suspension movement
Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling brake pedal or clutch pedal
(vehicles with a manual transmission), pedal almost touches the floor, vehi-
cle pulls to one side when braking
Engine coolant temperature continually higher than normal
If you notice any of these clues, take your vehicle to any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional, as
soon as possible. Your vehicle may need adjustment or repair.

CAUTION
When raising your vehicle
Make sure to observe the following precautions to reduce the possibility of
death or serious injury:
When using a floor jack, follow the instructions of the manual provided with
the jack.
Do not use the jack that was supplied with your vehicle.
Do not put any part of your body underneath the vehicle when it is sup-
ported only by the floor jack.
Always use floor jack and/or automotive jack stands on a solid, flat, level
surface.
Do not start the engine (except hybrid model) or hybrid system (hybrid
model) while the vehicle is supported by the floor jack.
Except hybrid model: Stop the vehicle on level firm ground, firmly set the
parking brake and shift the shift lever in P (Multidrive), E, M or R (multi-
mode manual transmission) or R (manual transmission).
Hybrid model: Stop the vehicle on level, firm ground, firmly set the parking
brake and shift the shift position to P.
Make sure to set the floor jack properly at the jack point.
Raising the vehicle with an improperly positioned floor jack will damage
the vehicle and may cause the vehicle to fall off the floor jack.
Do not raise the vehicle while someone is in the vehicle.
When raising the vehicle, do not place any object on top of or underneath
the floor jack.
Lift up the vehicle using a floor jack
such as the one shown in the illustra-
tion.

When trouble arises
Towing with a wheel-lift type truck

Release the parking brake. Vehicles with a Multidrive or a
hybrid transmission: Use a tow-
ing dolly under the front wheels.
Vehicles with a multi-mode man-
ual transmission or a manual
transmission: We recommend to
use a towing dolly under the front

start system: When not using a
towing dolly, turn the engine
switch to the “ACC” (vehicles with
a manual transmission) or “ON”
position (vehicles with a multi-
mode manual transmission) and
shift the shift lever to N.

NOTICE
To prevent causing serious damage to the transmission when towing
using a wheel-lift type truck (Multidrive or hybrid transmission)
Never tow this vehicle from the rear with the front wheels on the ground.
To prevent causing serious damage to the Stop & Start system when
towing (vehicles with a Stop & Start system)
Never tow this vehicle with four wheels on the ground. Use a flatbed truck,
or lift up front or rear of the vehicle by using a wheel-lift type truck.
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type
truck (Multidrive or hybrid transmission)
When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing at
the opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clearance, the
vehicle could be damaged while being towed.
To prevent damage to the vehicle when towing using a wheel-lift type
truck (multi-mode manual transmission or manual transmission)
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: Do not tow the vehicle from
the rear when the engine switch is in the “LOCK” position or the key is
removed. The steering lock mechanism is not strong enough to hold the
front wheels straight.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: Do not tow the vehicle from the
rear when the engine switch is off. The steering lock mechanism is not
strong enough to hold the front wheels straight.
When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for towing at
the opposite end of the raised vehicle. Without adequate clearance, the
vehicle could be damaged while being towed.
To prevent body damage when towing with a sling-type truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck, either from the front or rear.
To prevent causing serious damage to the transmission in emergency
towing
Vehicles with a Multidrive or hybrid transmission, never tow a vehicle from
the rear with four wheels on the ground. This may cause serious damage to
the transmission.
