WARNING■When the warning light illuminates, immediately reduce the speed and
avoid sudden steering and brake manoeuvres. Stop the vehicle as soon as
possible and inspect the tyres and their inflation pressure.■
Under certain circumstances (e.g. sporty style of driving, wintry or unpaved
roads) the warning light may light up after a delay, or not at all.
CAUTION
■
The tyre control display does therefore not replace the regular tyre inflation
pressure control, as the system cannot detect an even loss of pressure.■
The system cannot warn in case of very rapid tyre inflation pressure loss, e.g. in
case of sudden tyre damage. In this case carefully bring the vehicle to a standstill
without sudden steering movements or sharp braking.
■
To ensure a proper functioning of the tyre control display, it is necessary to re-
peat the basic setting every 10,000 km or once a year.
Spare wheel

Boot: Spare wheel
First read and observe the introductory information and safety warn-
ings on page 175.
The spare wheel is located in a well under the floor covering in the boot and is
fixed in place with a special bolt » Fig. 144.
Take out the wheel
›
Open the boot lid.
›
Lift up the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Remove the box with the tool kit.
›
Unscrew the bolt » Fig. 144 in an anti-clockwise direction.
›Take out the wheel.
Stow the wheel›
Stow the replaced wheel in the spare wheel well with the rim facing down.
›
Screw in the bolt » Fig. 144 in a clockwise direction until the wheel is securely
attached.
›
Place the box with the tool kit back into the spare wheel and secure it with the
tape.
›
Fold back the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Close the boot lid.
Fit a wheel in the appropriate dimensions and design as soon as possible.
If the dimensions or design of the spare wheel differ from the tyres fitted to the
vehicle (e.g. winter tyres or low-profile tyres), it must only be used briefly in the
event of a puncture and if an appropriately cautious style of driving is adop-
ted »
.
Temporary spare wheel
A warning label is displayed on the rim of the temporary spare wheel.
Please note the following if you intend to use the temporary spare wheel. › The warning label must not be covered after installing the wheel.
› Be particularly observant when driving.
› The inflation pressure for the temporary spare wheel is identical to the maxi-
mum inflation pressure for the standard tyres.
› Only use this temporary spare wheel to reach the nearest specialist garage, as it
is not intended for long-term use.
WARNING■ Never use the temporary spare wheel if it is damaged.■If the dimensions or design of the temporary spare wheel differ from the fit-
ted tyres, never drive faster than 80 km/h (or 50 mph).■
Avoid accelerating at full throttle, sharp braking and fast cornering.
CAUTION
Observe the instructions on the warning sign of the temporary spare wheel.

Introduction
This chapter contains information on the following subjects:
Vehicle identification data
207
Dimensions
208
Vehicle-specific details per engine type
209
Multi-purpose vehicles (AF)
211
The details given in the vehicle's technical documentation always take prece-
dence over the details in the Owner's Manual.
The listed performance values were determined without performance-reducing
equipment, e.g. air conditioning system.
Vehicle identification data
Fig. 183
Vehicle data sticker/type plate
First read and observe the introductory information given on page 207.
Vehicle data sticker
The vehicle data sticker » Fig. 183 - is located underneath the floor covering in
the boot.
The vehicle data sticker contains the following data: Vehicle identification number (VIN)
Vehicle type
Gearbox code/paint number/interior equipment/engine output/engine code Partial vehicle description
Operating weight (in kg)
Fuel consumption (in ltr./100 km) - intra-urban/extra-urban/combined
CO 2 emission levels - combined (in g/km)
The indicated positions

,
6
and
7
on the vehicle data sticker are only valid for
some countries.
Type plate
The type plate » Fig. 183 -
is located at the bottom of the B-pillar on the driver's
side.
The type plate lists the following weights: Maximum permissible gross weight
Maximum permissible towed weight (towing vehicle and trailer)
Maximum permissible front axle load
Maximum permissible rear axle load
Vehicle identification number (VIN)
The vehicle identification number - VIN (vehicle body number) is stamped into the
engine compartment on the right hand suspension strut dome. This number is al-so located on a sign on the lower left hand edge below the windscreen (together
with a VIN bar code).
Engine number
The engine number (three-digit identifier and serial number) is stamped on the
engine block.
Operating weight
The specified operating weight is for orientation purposes only. This value repre- sents the minimum operating weight without additional weight-increasing equip-
ment such as air conditioning system, spare wheel, or trailer hitch.
1234567891011207Technical data
The operating weight also contains the weight of the driver (75 kg), the weight ofthe operating fluids, the tool kit, and a fuel tank filled to 90 % capacity.
It is possible to calculate the approximate loading capacity from the differencebetween the permissible total weight and the operating weight »
.
The payload consists of the following components: › Passengers
› All items of luggage and other loads
› Roof load including roof rack system
› Equipment not included in the operating weight
› Trailer drawbar load when towing a trailer (max. 50 kg).
Fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions according to ECE regulations and EU
directives
The measurement of the intra-urban cycle begins with a cold start of the engine. Afterwards standard urban driving is simulated.
In the extra-urban driving cycle, the vehicle is accelerated and decelerated in all
gears, corresponding to daily routine driving conditions. The driving speed varies
between 0 and 120 km/h.
The calculation of the combined fuel consumption considers a weighting of about 37 % for the intra-urban cycle and 63 % for the extra-urban cycle.
WARNINGDo not exceed the specified maximum permissible weights – risk of accident
and damage!
Note
■ If required, you can find out the precise weight of your vehicle at a specialist ga-
rage.■
The fuel consumption and emission values have been determined in accordance
with rules and under conditions set out by legal or technical requirements for de-
termining operational and technical data for motor vehicles.
■
Depending on the range of equipment, style of driving, traffic situation, weather
influences and vehicle condition, consumption values may deviate from the indi-
cated values.
