PRESENT

STOREDBRAKE MOTOR/CABLES CONNECTION
(EMERGENCY UNLOCKING)
1. DEF: Parking brake unlocked by the emergency handle
NOTESPriority when dealing with a number of faults:
Deal first with faults DF003, DF004, DF028, DF029, DF035, DF041, DF042, DF043,
DF050, DF054, DF055, DF057, DF058 and DF073 if they are present or stored.
Conditions for applying the fault finding procedure to a stored fault:
Apply this fault finding procedure if the fault recurs after the fault is cleared, with the
ignition switched off and on again (forced + after ignition feed, see Introduction),
and the parking brake released then applied using the control lever.
Special notes:
The fault does not usually come from the electronic parking brake computer.
This fault indicates that the electronic parking brake system has been unlocked by the
manual control (if this is the case, check that the handle protector has not been
damaged).
Check that the emergency unlocking handle has not been manually pulled by the
user, which would provoke this fault.
The cables are reset by the parking brake release manual command or automatically
(if the fault is present) when the vehicle is driven at more than 1.2 mph (2 km/h)
(the fault is then stored).
Only for Vdiag 08, 0C and 0D:
If there is a stored fault, refer to the statuses and parameters when it appears.
Explanation of counters: see Introduction.
If the fault is stored and PR018 = 0 and PR022 > 25 clear the fault: do not take this
fault into account.
If there has been no manual use of the emergency unlocking handle and if PR019 > 5,
contact the Techline.
Check that the fault was not provoked by manual usage of the emergency unlocking handle. In this case, it is
normal for the fault to arise; clear the fault.
Carry out a releasing command, then a braking command with the control lever to reset the cables of the parking
brake.
Check the conformity of the parking brake mechanical tensioning line: correctly attached, no breakage.
Check the conformity of the emergency unlocking cable.
Carry out the necessary repairs.
Check that the braking force and maximum braking are operating correctly.
If the fault persists, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.
Deal with any other faults.

Check that an additional booster battery has not been used when starting, if this is the case, this fault may appear.
Use the diagnostic tool to carry out a multiplex system test.
This check ensures that the various multiplex system connections are correct and finds any faulty segments.
Carry out any necessary repairs.
If the multiplex system test has not made it possible to find the defective connection, disconnect the electronic
parking brake computer connector to check it is in good condition and check the condition of the clips (terminals)
and in particular the clips for tracks A2 and A3.
Replace the clips if necessary.
With the electronic parking brake computer connector disconnected, check the insulation, continuity and the
absence of interference resistance on the connections between tracks A2 and A3 of the electronic parking
brake computer and the following computers:
– anti-lock braking system (see diagram of the various computers),
– injection (see diagram of the different computers),
– automatic transmission (see diagram of the different computers),
– UCH (see diagram of the different computers),
– Protection and Switching Unit (see diagram of the different computers).
Repair if necessary.
If the fault persists, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.
Deal with any other faults.

2. DEF
NOTESSpecial notes:
This fault is generated after the automatic parking brake is
switched on whilst driving or following an internal reset.
With the anti-lock braking system, this detection is active at
> 0.6 mph (> 1 km/h), otherwise the multiplex signal
emitted by the injection computer must be 1.
Note:
The driver is only informed of this fault after 16 successive
detections.
This fault may be due to battery disconnections or vehicle
supply faults, in which case it is associated with fault 1.DEF
(battery voltage too low) dealt with previously.
If the frequency counter (PR016) > 3 and if the onboard network (battery, wiring) analysis does not bring up any
present or stored fault under battery voltage, contact the Techline.
Check that the battery, battery - starter - alternator connection lead, battery earth - chassis lead and the chassis
earth - engine and transmission assembly lead are in good condition.
Repair if necessary.
Check the charging circuit: the alternator should not supply a voltage of less than + 12 V or greater than + 14.4 V
(engine at idle speed).
Carry out the necessary repairs.
track H4
(except Laguna II, Vel Satis and Espace IV)
track G4+12V
track H2
(except Laguna II, Vel Satis and Espace IV)

Repair if necessary (see the vehicle wiring diagram).
If the fault is still present, check that no electrical system using the same supply fuse as the electronic parking
brake computer is faulty.
If the fault persists, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRIf the computer has been replaced (at the request of the Techline), initialise the
electronic parking brake computer (see Replacement of components).
Issue several braking and release commands to confirm the repair.
Deal with any other faults.

SUB-FUNCTION: AUTOMATIC APPLICATION (CONTINUED 1)
NOTESOnly carry out this conformity check after carrying out a complete check using the
diagnostic tool.
Application conditions: ignition on (forced + after ignition, see Introduction)
Note:
The interpretation of these statuses and parameters is only valid with the
ignition switched on, the statuses and parameters displayed in blue on the
diagnostic tool is information supplied by other computers, which are transmitted via
the multiplex network. If these variables display inconsistent values, check that the
multiplex system test has not shown up any faulty connections. Repair the faulty
multiplex connections before looking for a possible problem with the signals.
Each sub-function in this test is associated with a Fault finding chart.
Special notes
The diagnostic tool may display the message Computer busy when displaying
statuses and parameters. This message is displayed when the parking brake is
applying or releasing the brake, because the computer gives priority to controlling the
motor before transmitting variables. If this message is displayed, exit the current
screen and then return to it.

ALP4 Assisted braking fault (when the engine is stopped)
NOTESOnly consult this customer complaint after a full check using the diagnostic tool
(no present or stored faults).
(see the wiring diagrams technical note for the vehicle concerned).
Check for any potential faults in the ABS computer (see 38C, Anti-lock braking system), the UCH computer
(see 87B, Passenger compartment connection unit) and the injection computer (see 13B, Diesel injection or
17B, Petrol injection) to ensure that they have actually received a request to stop the engine.
Test the application of the electronic parking brake with the engine switched off.
Incorrect signal faults on the multiplex line.
Run a multiplex network test (see88B, Multiplex).
When the engine stalls, the automatic brake application function is not active.
Check the + 12 V supply, the insulation, continuity and the absence of interference resistance on the
following connection:
– connection code BP2
Between the electronic parking brake computer, component code 1217 and the battery, component code 107.
If the continuity is correct, test the charging circuit (see Technical Note 6014A, Checking the charging circuit).
Repair if necessary.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRCarry out a check using the diagnostic tool.
