The ETDs do not correct incorrect seat
positions or incorrectly fastened seat belts.
The ETDs do not pull vehicle occupants back
towards the backrest.
When triggered, seat belt force limiters help
to reduce the peak force exerted by the seat
belt on the vehicle occupant.
The seat belt force limiters are synchronized
with the fronta
ir bags, which take on a part
of the deceleration force. Thus, the force
exerted on the occupant is distributed over a
greater area.
The ETDs can only be activated when:
R the ignition is switched on.
R the restraint systems are operational; see
"SRS warning lamp" (Y page 39).
R the belt tongue is engaged in the buckle on
each of the three-point seat belts.
The ETDs are triggered depending on the type
and severity of an accident:
R if, in the event of a head-on or rear-end
collision, the vehicle decelerates or
accelerates rapidly in a longitudinal
direction during the initial stages of the
impact
R if, in the even tofaside impact, on the side
opposite the impact the vehicle
decelerates or accelerates rapidly in a
lateral direction
R if, in certain situations where the vehicle
overturns, the system determines that it
can provide additional protection
If the ETDs are deployed, you will hear a bang,
and a small amount of powder may also be
released.O nly in rare cases will the bang
affect your hearing .The powder that is
released generally does not constitute a
health hazard. The 001BSRS warning lamp
lights up. Child restraint systems
Important safety notes
G
WARNING
Children 12 years old and under must be
seated and properly secured in an appropriate
infant restraint, toddler restraint, or booster
seat recommended for the size and weight of
the child.
The infant or child restraint system must be
correctly secured using the vehicle's seat belt
in complete accordance with the child seat
manufacturer's instructions.
Occupants, in particular children, must sit as
upright as possible, fasten the seat belt
correctly and use a suitable infant restraint
system, child restraint system or booster seat
suitable for the size and weight of the child.
Children can be seriously or even fatally
injured by an air bag deploying. Observe the
following information:
R Your vehicle is equipped with air bag
technology designed to deactivate the
front-passenger front air bag in your vehicle
when the system senses the weight of a
typical 12-month-old child or less along
with the weight of a standard appropriate
child restraint on the passenger seat.
R Ac hild in a rearward-facing child restraint
system on the front-passenger seat could
be seriously injured or even killed if the
front-passenger air bag inflates in a
collision despite the air bag technology
installed in your vehicle, which could occur
under some circumstances.
R If you install a rearward-facing child
restraint on the front-passenger seat, make
sure that the 0017PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF indicator lamp is illuminated,
indicating that the front-passenger front air
bag is deactivated. Should the 0017
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp
not illuminate or go out while a rearward-
facing child restraint system is installed,
please check installation. Periodically 56

WARNING
Only press the button on the integrated
garage door opener if there are no persons or
objects present within the sweep of the
garage door. Persons could otherwise be
injured as the door moves. Integrated garage door opener on the rear-view
mirror
Garage door remote control 0021is not part of
the integrated garage door opener.
X Before programming for the first time, clear
the memory of the integrated garage door
opener (Y page 265).
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press and hold one of buttons 0004to0023 on
the integrated garage door opener.
After a short time, indicator lamp 0003lights
up yellow.
i Indicator lamp 0003lights up yellow as soon
as button 0004,0024or0023 is programmed for
the first time. If the selected button has
already been programmed, indicator
lamp 0003will only light up yellow after ten
seconds have elapsed.
X Release button 0004,0024or0023. Indicator
lamp 0003flashes yellow.
X Point garage door remote control 0021
towards buttons 0004to0023 on the rear-view mirror at a distance of 2 to 8 inches (5 to
20 cm).
i The required distance between remote
control 0021and the integrated garage door
opener depends on the garage door drive
system. Several attemptsm ight be
necessary. You should tes tevery position
for at least 25 seconds before trying
another position.
X Press and hold button 0022on remote control
0021 until indicator lamp 0003lights up green.
If indicator lamp 0003lights up green or
flashes, then programming has been
successful.
X Release button 0022on remote control 0021for
the garage door drive system.
X If indicator lamp 0003lights up red: repeat
the programming procedure for the
corresponding button on the rear-view
mirror. When doing so, vary the distance
between remote control 0021and the rear-
view mirror.
i If the indicator lamp flashes green after
successful programming, the garage door
system is using a rolling code. After
programming, you must synchronize the
garage door opener integrated in the rear-
view mirror with the receive rofthe garage
door system.
Synchronizing the rolling code
Your vehicle must be within reach of the
garage door or exterior gate drive. Make sure
that neither your vehicle nor any persons/
objects are present within the sweep of the
door or gate.
Observe the safety notes when performing
the rolling code synchronization.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the programming button of the door
or gate drive (see the door or gate drive
operating instructions, e.g. under
"Programming of additional remote
controls"). Features

i
Usually, you now have 30seconds to
initiate the next step.
X Press previously programmed button 0004,
0024 or0023 of the integrated garage door
opener until the door closes.
The rolling code synchronization is then
complete.
Notes on programming the remote
control
Canadian radio frequency laws require a
"break" (or interruption) of the transmission
signals after broadcasting for a few seconds.
Therefore, these signals may not last long
enough for the integrated garage door
opener. The signal is not recognized during
programming. Comparable with Canadian
law, some U.S. garage door openers are
designed to "time-out" in the same manner.
Proceed as follows:
R if you live in Canada
R if you have difficulties programming the
garage door opener (regardless of where
you live) when using the programming
steps
X Press and hold one of buttons 0004to0023 on
the integrated garage door opener.
After a short time, indicator lamp 0003lights
up yellow.
X Release the button.
Indicator lamp 0003flashes yellow.
X Press button 0022of garage door remote
control 0021for two seconds, then release it
for two seconds.
X Press button 0022againf or two seconds.
X Repeat this sequence on button 0022of
remote control 0021until indicator lamp 0003
lights up green.
If indicator lamp 0003turns red, repeat the
process.
X Continue with the other programming
steps (see above). Problems when programming
If you are experiencing problems
programming the integrated garage door
opener on the rear-view mirror, take note of
the following instructions:
R
Check the transmitter frequency of garage
door drive remote control 0021.This can
usually be found on the back of the remote
control.
The integrated garage door opener is
compatible with devices that have units
which operate in the frequency range of
280to 433MHz.
R Replace the batteries in garage door
remote control 0021.This increases the
likelihood that garage door remote control
0021 will transmit a stronga nd precise signal
to the integrated garage door opene rinthe
rear-view mirror.
R When programming, hold remote control
0021 at varying distances and angles from the
button that you are programming. Try
various angles at a distance between 2and
12 inches (5to 30 cm) or at the same angle
but at varying distances.
R If another remote control for the same
garage door drive is available, repeat the
same programming steps with this remote
control. Before performing these steps,
make sure that new batteries have been
installed in garage door drive remote
control 0021.
R Note that some remote controls only
transmit for a limited amount of time (the
indicator lamp on the remote control goes
out). Press button 0022on remote control
0021 again before transmission ends.
R Align the antenna cable of the garage door
opener unit. This can improve signal
reception/transmission.
Opening/closing the garage door After it has been programmed, the integrated
garage door opener performs the function of
the garage door system remote control.264
