Disarming
0004 Arming
X To disarm: press and hold button 0003for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.
X To arm: press and hold button 0004for about
five seconds until a tone sounds.
i If you press one of th etwo buttons and
do not hear a tone, the relevant setting has
already been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignitio nis switched on and the wheels are
turning.
You could therefore lock yourselfo ut if:
R the vehicle is being pushed.
R the vehicle is being towed.
R the vehicle is on a roller dynamometer.
You can also switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board
computer (Y page 206). Unlocking the driver's door
(mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door, the anti-thef talarm
system will be triggered ( Ypage 67). X
Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 72).
X Insert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go. X
Turn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
to position 0006.
The door is unlocked.
X Turn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
X Insert the mechanical key into the
SmartKey. Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
X Open the driver's door.
X Close the front-passenger door and the
trunk lid.
X Press the locking button (Y page 77).
X Check whether the locking knob on the
front-passenger door is still visible. If
necessary, press the locking knob down by
hand (Y page 77).
X Close the driver's door.
X Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 72).
X Insert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go. 78

WARNING
When the climate control system is switched
off, the outside air supply and circulation are
also switched off .Only choose this setting for
a short time when the retractable hardtop
(vario-roof) is closed .Otherwise, the windows
could fog up, impairing visibility and
endangering you and others.
i Switch on climate control primarily using
the 0005 button ( Ypage 126).
Air-conditioning system X
To activate: turn airflow control
0015(Y page 121) clockwise to the desired
positio n(except position 0).
X To deactivate: turn airflow control
0015(Y page 121) counter-clockwise to
position 0. 3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X To switch on: press the0005button.
The indicator lamp in the 0005button lights
up. Airflow and air distribution are set to
automatic mode.
or
X Press the 000Cbutton.
The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton goes
out. The previously selected settings are
restored.
X To switch off: press the000Cbutton.
The indicator lamp in the 000Cbutton lights
up. Activating/deactivating cooling with
air dehumidification

WARNING
If you switch off the cooling function, the
vehicle will not be cooled when weather
conditions are warm. The windows can fog up
more quickly. This may preven tyou from
observing the traffic conditions, thereby
causing an accident.
The cooling with air dehumidification function
is only available when the engine is running.
The air inside the vehicle is cooled and
dehumidified according to the temperature
selected.
Condensation may drip from the underside of
the vehicle when it is in cooling mode. This is
normal and not a sign that there is a
malfunction. Operating the climate control systems

button goes out. The cooling with air
dehumidification function has a delayed
switch-off feature.
Problems with the cooling with air
dehumidification function When you press the
0006or0004 button, the
indicator lamp in the button flashes three
times or remains off .You can no longer switch
on the cooling with air dehumidification
function.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop. Setting climate control to automatic

WARNING
If you switch off the cooling function, the
vehicle will not be cooled when weather
conditions are warm. The windows can fog up
more quickly. Window fogging may impair
visibility and endanger you and others.
In automatic mode, the set temperature is
maintained automatically at a constant level.
The system automatically regulates the
temperature of the dispensed air, the airflow
and the air distribution.
Automatic mode will achieve optimal
operation if cooling with air dehumidification
is also activated. If desired, cooling with air
dehumidification can be deactivated. X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Set the desired temperature.
X To activate: press the0005button.
The indicator lamp in the 0005button lights
up. Automatic air distribution and airflow
are activated.
X To deactivate: press the0019button.
or
X Press the 001Aor001B button.
The indicator lamp in the 0005button goes

3-zone automatic climate control Different temperatures can be set for the
driver's and front-passenger sides.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X To increase/reduce: turn controls0003and
0022 (Ypage 123) clockwise or counter-
clockwise.
Only change the temperature setting in
small increments. Start at 72 ‡ (22 †). 126

Setting the air distribution
Air-conditioning system X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press one or more of the 001D,001C,
0007 buttons.
The corresponding indicator lamp lights up
briefly.
The following air distribution settings can be
selected:
0007 Directs air through the defroster vents
001C Directs the airflow through the
footwell air vents
001D Directs air through the center and side
air vents
i You can also activate several air
distribution settings simultaneously .To do
this, press multiple air distribution buttons.
The air is then directed through various
vents.
3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the 0019button repeatedly until the
desired symbol appears in the display.
The following air distribution settings can be
selected:
001D Directs air through the center and side
air vents
001C Directs the airflow through the
footwell air vents
001E Directs air through the center, side and
footwell vents
0007 Directs air through the defroster vents
0018 Directs the airflow through the
defroster, center and side air vents 20017
Directs air through the defroster and
footwell vents
0019 Directs the airflow through the
defroster, center and side air vents as
well as the footwell air vents
i Regardless of the air distribution setting,
airflow is always directed through the side
air vents. You can only close the side air
vents, by fully closing the adjuster on the
side air vents (Y page 130). Setting the airflow

3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X To increase/reduce: press the001Bor
001A button. Switching the ZONE function on/off
This function is only available with 3-zone
automatic climate control.
X To switch on: press the0003button.
The indicator lamp in the 0003button lights
up. The temperature setting for the driver's
side is not adopted for the front-passenger
side.
X To switch off: press button0003.
The indicator lamp in the 0003button goes
out. The temperature setting for the
driver's side is adopted for the front-
passenger side.

Turn the SmartKey to position 0in the
ignition lock or remove it.
X To switch on: press the0002or0004
button.
The indicator lamp in the 0002or0004
button lights up.
i The blower will run at a low speed
regardless of the airflow setting.
i If you activate the residual heat function
at high temperatures, only the ventilation
will be activated. The blower runs at
medium speed.
X To deactivate: press the0002or0004
button.
The indicator lamp in the 0002or0004
button goes out.
Residual heat is deactivated automatically:
R after approximately 30 minutes
R when the ignition is switched on
R if the battery voltage drops
R when the auxiliary heating is activated Setting the air vents
Important safety notes

WARNING
Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air
vents. This could cause burns or frostbite to
bare skin in the immediate vicinity of the
vents. Keep bare skin away from these air
vents. If necessary, direct the airflow away to
a different area of the vehicle interior.
In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air vents into the vehicle interior,
please observe the following notes:
R keep the air inlet grille on the hood and in
the engine compartment on the front-
passenger side free of blockages, such as
ice, snow or leaves.
R never cover the air vents or air intake grilles
in the vehicle interior. i
You can move the adjusters for the air
vents vertically or horizontally to set the
direction of the airflow.
i For optimal climate control in the vehicle,
open the air vents completely and set the
adjusters to the central position. Setting the center air vents

counter-clockwise.
X To close the center air vent: turn the
adjuster in one of center air vents 0003

WARNING
When operating the climate control, the air
that enters the passenger compartment
through the air vents can be very hot or very
cold (depending on the set temperature). This
could cause burns or frostbite to unprotected
skin in the immediate area of the air vents.
Always keep sufficient distance between
unprotected parts of the body and the air
vents. If necessary, use the air distribution
adjustmen tto direct the air to air vents in the
vehicle interior that are not in the immediate
area of unprotected skin. You can adjust the blower output of
AIRSCARF vents 0003using the AIRSCARF
