OPERATION
This Voice Command system
allows you to control your
AM, FM radio, disc player,
and a memo recorder.
NOTE: Take care to speak into
the Voice Interface System as
calmly and normally as possible.
The ability of the Voice Interface
System to recognize user voice
commands may be negatively af-
fected by rapid speaking or a
raised voice level.WARNING!
Any voice commanded system
should be used only in safe driving
conditions following all applicable
laws. All attention should be kept
on the roadway ahead. Failure to
do so may result in a collision caus-
ing serious injury or death.

cleaners, lights, etc.) will degrade
the battery even more quickly.

The optional ash receiver also comes
with a cigar lighter that can be used

FRONT SEAT CUPHOLDER
The cupholder in the center console
will accommodate either two large
size cups or two 0.5 L bottles or cans.
The one-piece insert can be removed
easily for cleaning. An optional re-
movable ashtray may be located in
one of the cupholders.

The top compartment holds small
items, such as a pen and note pad,
while the larger bottom compartment
will hold CDs and alike. Lift upward
on the larger of the latches to access
the lower storage compartment. The
larger bottom compartment will hold
CDs and alike. The bottom compart-
ment also contains a 12 Volt power
outlet.
NOTE:
 A notch in the front of the con-sole base allows for use of a cel-
lular phone while it is plugged
into the power outlet with the
armrest latched down.
 The power outlet can also ener- gize the cigar lighter in the op-
tional cup holder ash receiver.WARNING!
Do not operate this vehicle with a
console compartment lid in the
open position. Cellular phones, mu-
sic players, and other handheld
electronic devices should be stowed
while driving. Use of these devices

REAR WINDOW
FEATURES
REAR WINDOW
DEFROSTER The rear window defroster
button is located on the cli-
mate control (Mode) knob.
Press this button to turn on the rear
window defroster and the heated out-
side mirrors. An indicator in the but-
ton will illuminate when the rear win-
dow defroster is on. The rear window
defroster automatically turns off after
approximately 10 minutes. For an
additional five minutes of operation,
press the button a second time. NOTE: To prevent excessive bat-
tery drain, use the rear window
defroster only when the engine is
operating.
CAUTION!Failure to follow these cautions can
cause damage to the heating ele-
ments: Use care when washing the inside
of the rear window. Do not use
abrasive window cleaners on the
interior surface of the window.
Use a soft cloth and a mild wash-
ing solution, wiping parallel to
the heating elements. Labels can
be peeled off after soaking with
warm water.
 Do not use scrapers, sharp instru- ments, or abrasive window clean-
ers on the interior surface of the
window.
 Keep all objects a safe distance from the window.

Automatic Compass Calibration
This compass is self-calibrating,
which eliminates the need to calibrate
the compass manually. When the ve-
hicle is new, the compass may appear
erratic and the EVIC will flash the
“CAL” indicator until the compass is
calibrated. You may calibrate the
compass by completing one or more
360–degree turns (in an area free
from large metal or metallic objects)
until the CAL indicator in the EVIC
turns off. The compass will now func-
tion normally.
NOTE: A good calibration re-
quires a level surface and an envi-
ronment free from large metallic
objects such as buildings, bridges,
underground cables, railroad
tracks, etc.Manual Compass Calibration
If the compass appears erratic or inac-
curate, and the variance has been
properly set, you may wish to manually
recalibrate the compass. To manually
calibrate the compass:1. Start the engine. Leave the shift
lever in PARK in order to enter the
EVIC Programming Menus.
2. Press and release the MENU but-
ton until “Personal Settings” displays
in the EVIC.
3. Press and release the DOWN but-
ton until “Calibrate Compass Yes”
displays in the EVIC.
4. Press and release the SELECT
button and the “CAL” indicator will
start flashing.
5. Drive the vehicle slowly (under
5 mph / 8 km/h), completing one or
more circles (in an area free from
large metal or metallic objects) until
the “CAL” indicator turns off. The
compass will now function normally.Compass Variance
Compass Variance is the difference
between Magnetic North and Geo-
graphic North. To compensate for the
differences, the variance should be set
for the zone where the vehicle is
driven, per the zone map. Once prop-
erly set, the compass will automati-
cally compensate for the differences
and provide the most accurate com-
pass heading.
NOTE: Magnetic and battery
powered devices, (such as cell
phones, iPod's, radar detectors,
PDA's and laptops) should be kept
away from the top of the instru-
ment panel. This is where the com-
pass module is located and such
devices may interfere and cause
false compass readings.

Headlamps With Wipers
(Available with Auto Headlights
Only)
When ON is selected, and the head-
light switch is in the AUTO position,
the headlights will turn on approxi-
mately 10 seconds after the wipers are
turned on. The headlights will also
turn off when the wipers are turned
off if they were turned on by this
feature. To make your selection, press
the SELECT button until ON or OFF
appears.
NOTE: Turning the headlights on
during the daytime causes the in-
strument panel lights to dim. To
increase the brightness, refer to
“Lights” in “Understanding The
Features Of Your Vehicle.”
Key Off Power Delay
When this feature is selected, the
power window switches, radio,
Uconnect™ phone, and power outlets
will remain active for up to 10 min-
utes after the ignition switch is turnedto the LOCK position. Opening either
front vehicle door will cancel this fea-
ture. To make your selection, press the
SELECT button until OFF, 45 sec,
5 min, or 10 min appears.
Illumin. Approach
When this feature is selected, the head-
lights will activate and remain on for up
to 90 seconds when the doors are un-
locked with the remote keyless entry
transmitter. To make your selection,
press the SELECT button until “OFF,”
“30 sec,” “60 sec,” or “90 sec” appears.Display Units In
The EVIC and odometer can be
changed between English and Metric
units of measure. To make your selec-
tion, press and release the SELECT
button until “U.S.” or “METRIC”
appears.

SETTING THE ANALOG
CLOCK
To set the analog clock, located at the
top center of the instrument panel,
press and hold the button in until the
setting is correct. The clock will adjust
slowly at first and then quicker the
longer the button is held.

RADIO OPERATION AND
MOBILE PHONES
Under certain conditions, the mobile
phone being on in your vehicle can
cause erratic or noisy performance
from your radio. This condition may
be lessened or eliminated by relocat-
ing the mobile phone antenna. This
condition is not harmful to the radio.
If your radio performance does not
satisfactorily “clear” by the reposi-
tioning of the antenna, it is recom-
mended that the radio volume be
turned down or off during mobile
phone operation.
CLIMATE CONTROLS
The air conditioning and heating sys-
tem is designed to make you comfort-
able in all types of weather.
AUTOMATIC
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
(ATC)Automatic Operation
The Automatic Temperature Control
system automatically maintains the
climate in the cabin of the vehicle at
the comfort levels desired by the
driver and passenger.
Operation of the system is quite
simple.
1. Turn the Mode Control knob (on
the right) and the Blower Control
knob (on the left) to AUTO.NOTE: The AUTO position per-
forms best for front seat occupants
only.
2.
Dial in the tem-
perature you would
like the system to
maintain by rotat-
ing the Tempera-
ture Control knob.
Once the comfort
level is selected, the system will main-
tain that level automatically using the
heating system. Should the desired
comfort level require air conditioning,
the system will automatically make the
adjustment.
You will experience the greatest effi-
ciency by simply allowing the system
to function automatically. Selecting
the “O” (OFF) position on the blower
control stops the system completely
and closes the outside air intake.
The recommended setting for maxi-
mum comfort is 22°C for the average
person; however, this may vary.

starting.FREEING A STUCK
VEHICLE
If your vehicle becomes stuck in mud,
sand, or snow, it can often be moved
using a rocking motion. Turn the
steering wheel right and left to clear
the area around the front wheels.Then shift back and forth between
DRIVE and REVERSE, while gently
pressing the accelerator. Use the least
amount of accelerator pedal pressure
that will maintain the rocking motion,
without spinning the wheels, or racing
the engine.
CAUTION!
Racing the engine or spinning the
wheels may lead to transmission
overheating and failure. Allow the
engine to idle with the transmission
in NEUTRAL for at least one min-
ute after every five rocking-motion
cycles. This will minimize over-
heating and reduce the risk of
transmission failure during pro-
longed efforts to free a stuck ve-
hicle.NOTE:
Press the "ESC Off" switch,
to place the Electronic Stability
Control (ESC) system in "Partial Off"
mode, before rocking the vehicle.
Refer to “Electronic Brake Control”
in “Starting And Operating” for fur-
ther information. Once the vehicle
has been freed, press the "ESC Off"
switch again to restore "ESC On"
mode.
CAUTION!
 When “rocking” a stuck vehicle by shifting between DRIVE and
REVERSE, do not spin the
wheels faster than 24 km/h, or
drivetrain damage may result.
 Revving the engine or spinning
the wheels too fast may lead to
transmission overheating and
failure. It can also damage the
tires. Do not spin the wheels
above 48 km/h while in gear (no
transmission shifting occurring).
