enabling them to open the trunk
from the inside.
There is a glow-in-the-dark
emergency trunk release handle
located on the trunk lid. This handle
will glow following exposure to light.
Pull the release handle toward the
front of the vehicle to open the trunk
from the inside.Vehicle Security
This vehicle has theft-deterrent
features; however, they do not make
the vehicle impossible to steal.
Vehicle Alarm System
This vehicle has an anti-theft alarm
system.
The indicator light, located on the
instrument panel near the
windshield, indicates the status of
the system.
Arming the System
1. Close all doors, the trunk, andthe hood. 2. Lock the vehicle using the
transmitter or the power door
lock button. The indicator light
on the instrument panel should
come on and stay on for about
30 seconds.
3. After 30 seconds, or after
Qis
pressed again, the alarm system
will arm, and the indicator light
will begin to slowly flash
indicating the alarm is operating.
If a door, the hood, or trunk is
opened without first unlocking with
the transmitter, the turn signals will
flash and the horn will sound for
about 30 seconds. The alarm
system will then re-arm to monitor
for the next unauthorized event.
The theft-deterrent alarm system will
not activate if the doors are locked
with the key.

This vehicle has an airbag system.

Keep a record with all parts receipts
and list the mileage and the date of
any service work performed. See

Notice: Even small amounts of
contamination can cause damage
to vehicle systems. Do not allow
contaminants to contact the
fluids, reservoir caps,
or dipsticks.Hood
To open the hood:
1. Pull the hood release lever with this symbol on it. It is located
inside the vehicle on the lower
side of the instrument panel.
2. Go to the front of the vehicle andlocate the secondary hood
release lever. The lever is
located under the front edge of
the grille near the center.
3. Push the secondary release lever to the right and raise
the hood.
Before closing the hood, be sure all
the filler caps are on properly. Then
bring the hood from full open to
within 152 mm (6 in) from the closed
position, pause, then push the front
center of the hood with a swift, firm
motion to fully close the hood.

Be careful not to reset the oil life
display accidentally at any time
other than after the oil is
changed. It cannot be reset
accurately until the next oil
change.
The oil life system can also be reset
as follows:
1. Turn the ignition on with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times
within five seconds.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL
SOON message is not on, the
system is reset.
The system is reset when the
CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON
message is off.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON
message comes back on when the
vehicle is started, the engine oil life
system has not been reset. Repeat
the procedure.Automatic Transmission
Fluid
A transmission fluid leak is the only
reason for fluid loss. If a leak
occurs, take the vehicle to the
dealer and have it repaired as soon
as possible.
See your dealer to have the fluid
and filter changed at the intervals
listed in the Maintenance Schedule
on page 11‑3.
Engine Air Cleaner/Filter
The engine air cleaner/filter is
located in the engine compartment
on the passenger side of the
vehicle. See Engine Compartment
Overview on page 10‑5.
When to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
Inspect the air cleaner/filter at the
scheduled maintenance intervals.
See Maintenance Schedule on page 11‑3. If you are driving in
dusty/dirty conditions, inspect the
filter at each engine oil change.
How to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
To inspect the air cleaner/filter,
remove the filter from the vehicle
and lightly shake it to release loose
dust and dirt. If the filter remains
covered with dirt, a new filter is
required.
To inspect or replace the engine air
cleaner/filter:
1. Open the hood. See
