76 Seats and storage
The 12-volt sockets can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There is an additional 12-volt socket in the
center console. Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the information in
~ page 29 7, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.
A WARNING
The power outlets and therefore the elec­
trical accessories connected to them oper­ ate only with the ignition on. Improper use
of the outlets or of electrical accessories
can lead to serious injuries or cause a fire.
For this reason, children should never be
left unattended in the vehicle -they could
be injured!
(D Note
To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly .
{D) Tips
When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat ­
tery can still be drained .

A WARNING
--
- Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around inside the vehicle
while driving or when accelerating or
when applying the brakes or when driv­ ing around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's view. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks .
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked .

ti l the lock engages.
There are holders for a pen and a pad of paper in the glove compartment lid.
On the right side in the glove compartment is
a holder with the key body into which the
emergency key must be cl ipped to be able to
start the vehicle .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, a lways keep the
glove compartment closed whi le driving.
Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-con­
ditioning is in cooling mode.

A WARNING
-Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vis ion.
- The coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause
personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging
clothing on the coat hooks as this can in­
terfere with proper deployment of the
side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudden stop.

[i] Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heating
on at the highest setting ( leve l 3) . The LEDs
indicate the temperature level. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly until the LED turns off .
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from leve l 3 to leve l 2.
lil Adjusting seat ventilation*
Pr ess ing the button switches the seat venti la­
tion on at the highest setting (level 3). The
LE Ds indicate the ventilation leve l. To reduce
the ventilation leve l, press the button again.
To switch the seat ventilat ion off, press the
button repeatedly until the LED turns off.
I.., FRONT I Switch the defroster on/off
The windshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as possib le. The maximum amo unt of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off . The tempera­
ture is controlled automat ically.
The
IAU TOI button switches the defroster off.
IClil REAR I Switching rear window heater
on/off
The rear window heater only operates when
the engine is running.
It switches off auto­
matica lly after a few minutes, depend ing on
the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
lllii) REAR I button for more than 2 seconds.
This remains stored unt il the ignition is
switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels . The levers ad­
just the direction of the airflow from the vents.
You can adjust the air temperature in the rear by turning the thumbwheel toward the red

side to make it warmer or toward the blue
side to make it cooler .
A WARNING
-Do not use the recircu lation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle . If the windows fog up, press the air
recirculation button aga in immed iately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or select defrost.
- Individuals with reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating* funct ion.
To reduce the risk of injury, these individ­
uals shou ld not use seat heating.
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements*
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.
(D Tips
The seat heating* only works when the
seat detects body weight on it. Placing ob­
jects on the seat could create enough
weight to switch seat heating on .
Setup
The basic climate control settings can be ad­
justed in the radio or MMI*.

tips, instructions and warnings that you need
to read and observe for your own safety, the
safety of your passengers and others . We have
summarized here what you need to know
about safety belts, airbags, child restraints as
well as child safety. Your safety is for us
priori­
ty number 1.
Always observe the information
and warnings in this section - for your own
safety as well as that of your passengers.
The information in this section applies to all
model versions of your vehicle . Some of the
features described in this sections may be
standard equipment on some models, or may
be optional equipment on others. If you are
not sure, ask your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structions and heed the WARNINGS in
this Manual. It is in your interest and in
the interest of your passengers.
- Always keep the complete Owner's Liter­
ature in your Audi when you lend or sell
your vehicle so that this important infor­
mation will always be available to the
driver and passengers.
- Always keep the Owner's literature handy
so that you can find it easily if you have
questions.
Safety equipment
The safety features are part of the occupant
restraint system and work together to help
reduce the risk of injury in a wide variety of
accident situations .
Your safety and the safety of your passengers
should not be left to chance. Advances in
technology have made a variety of features
available to help reduce the risk of injury in an

accident. The following is a list of just a few of
the safety features in your Audi :
- sophisticated safety belts for driver and all
passenger seating positions,
- belt force limiters for the front seats,
- belt pretensioners for the seats,
- belt height adjustment for the front seats,
- head restraints for each seating position,
- front airbags,
- side airbags in the front seats and outer rear
seats*,
- side curtain airbags,
- special LATCH anchorages for child re-
straints,
- adjustable steering column.
These individual safety features, can work to­ gether as a system to help protect you and
your passengers in a wide range of accidents.
These features cannot work as a system if
they are not always correctly adjusted and cor­
rectly used.
Safety is everybody's responsibility!
Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody 's job! Vehicle and occu­
pant safety always depends on the informed
and careful driver.
For your safety and the safety of your passen ­
gers,
before driving always:
.,. Make sure that all lights and signals are op­
erating correctly .
.,. Make sure that the tire pressure is correct .
.,. Make sure that all windows are clean and
afford good visibility to the outside .
.,. Secure all luggage and other items carefully

.,. Make sure that nothing can interfere with
the pedals.
.,. Adjust front seat, head restraint and mir­
rors correctly for your height.
.,. Instruct passengers to adjust the head re­
straints according to their height .

~ Always keep both feet in the footwell so
that you are in control of the vehicle at all
times.

A WARNING
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position
or too close to the airbag can be seriously
injured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help
reduce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between your breast­
bone and the steering wheel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on the
outside of the steering wheel rim with
your hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to help reduce the risk of per­
sonal injury if the driver's airbag inflates.
- Never hold the steering wheel at the
12 o'clock position or with your hands at
other positions inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Hold­
ing the steering wheel the wrong way
can cause serious injuries to the hands,
arms and head if the driver's airbag de­
ploys.
- Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the supple­
mental driver's airbag to protect you in a
collision .
- Always sit in an upright position and nev­
er lean against or place any part of your
body too close to the area where the air ­
bags are located.
- Before driving, always adjust the front
seats and head restraints properly and
make sure that all passengers are prop­
erly restrained.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle
is moving . Your seat may move unexpect­
edly and you could lose control of the ve­
hicle.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests
are tilted back, the greater the risk of in-

jury due to incorrect positioning of the
safety belt and improper seating posi­
tion .
- Children must always ride in child safety
seats

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position
is important for safe, relaxed driving .
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of
injury in the event of an accident, we recom ­
mend that you adjust the seat for the front
passenger to the following position :
~ Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is
in an upright position and your back comes
in full contact with it whenever the vehicle is
moving .
~ Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge
is as even as possible with the top of your
head. If that is not possible , try to adjust
the head restraint so that it is as close to
this position as possible

~ Keep both feet flat on the floor in front of
the front passenger seat .
~ Fasten and wear safety bel ts correctly

ment panel.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of their own and properly fasten and
wear the safety belt belonging to that
seat.
- Before driving, always adjust the front
passenger seat and head restraint prop­
erly .
- Always keep your feet on the floor in
front of the seat. Never rest them on the
seat, instrument panel, out of the win­
dow, etc. The airbag system and safety
belt will not be able to protect you prop­
erly and can even increase the risk of in­
jury in a crash.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests
are tilted back, the greater the risk of in­
jury due to incorrect positioning of the
safety belt and improper seating posi­
tion.
- Children must always ride in child safety
seats

Proper seating positions for passengers
in rear seats
Rear seat passengers must sit upright with
both feet on the floor consistent with their
physical size and be properly restrained whenever the vehicle is in use .
To reduce the risk of injury caused by an incor­
rect seating position in the event of a sudden
braking maneuver or an accident, your pas­
sengers on the rear bench seat must always
observe the following :
.. If there is a passenger on the rear center
seating pos ition, slide the center head re­
straint upward at least to the next notch

.. Make sure that the seatback is securely
latched in the upright position
c::> page 67.
.. Keep both feet flat in the footwell in front
of the rear seat.
.. Fasten and wear safety belts properly

.. Make sure that children are always properly
restrained in a child restraint that is appro­
priate for their size and age

_& WARNING
Passengers who are improperly seated on
the rear seat can be seriously injured in a
crash .
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat
of their own and properly fasten and
wear the safety belt belonging to that
seat.
- Safety belts only offer maximum protec­
tion when the seatback is securely latch­
ed in the upright position and the safety
belts are properly positioned on the
body. By not sitting upright, a rear seat
passenger increases the risk of personal
injury from improperly positioned safety
belts!
-Always adjust the head restraint properly
so that it can give maximum protection.
Proper adjustment of head restraints
Correctly adjusted head restraints are an im­
portant part of your vehicle's occupant re ­
straint system and can help to reduce the risk
of injuries in accident situations.

The head restraints must be correctly adjust-
ed to achieve the best protection. .,.

~ Adjust the head restraints so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of
your head. If that is not possib le, try to ad­
j ust the head restraint so that it is as close
to this position as possible

A WARNING
All seats are equipped with head re­
straints. Dr iv ing without head restra ints or
w ith head restra ints that a re not properly
adjusted increases the risk of ser ious or fa­
t al neck injury dramat ic a lly. To help reduce
t he risk of in jury:
- Alw ays drive with the he ad restraints in
pla ce and properly adjusted.
- E very pe rson in the veh icle must have a
properly adj usted head restr aint.
- Always make sure each pe rson in the ve­
hicle properly adjus ts the ir head re­
st rain t. Ad just the head restrain ts so the
upper edge is as even as possib le with
the top of your head. If that is not possi­
ble, try to adjust the head restra int so
that it is as close to this position as pos­
sible.
- Never attempt to adjust head restraint wh ile driving. If you have driven off and
must adjust the dr iver head rest for any
reason, first stop the vehicle safe ly be­
fore attempting to adjust the head re­
st raint.
- Children must always be properly re­
st rained in a ch ild restraint that is appro­
pr iate for their age and s ize ¢
page 1 78.
Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only re ­
duce the risk of injury if vehicle occupants are
properly seated.
Imp rope r seat ing pos it ions can cause serious
in ju ry or death . Safety belts can on ly wor k
when they a re properly posit ioned o n the

body. Improper seating positions re duce the
effectiveness of safety belts and wi ll even in­
crease the ris k of i njury and death by moving
the safety belt to crit ica l areas of the body.
Improper seating positions a lso increase the
risk of serious injury and death when an a ir ­
bag deploys and str ikes an occupant w ho is
not in the p roper seating posit ion. A dr iver is
responsible fo r the safety of all veh icle occu ­
pan ts and espec ially for children. The re fore :
~ Never allow anyone to assume an incorrect
seating position when the vehicle is being
used

Therefore , whenever the vehicle is

- neve r stand on the seats
- never kneel on the seats
- never ride w it h the seatback reclined
- never lie down on the rear seat
- never lean up against the instrument panel

- neve r lean out the window
- neve r put your feet out the window
- never put your feet on the instr ument panel
- neve r rest your feet on the seat cush ion or
back of the seat
- neve r ride in the footwell

pants stay in a proper seating position
and are properly restrained whenever the
