Instruments and warning/indicator lights 19
If the indicator light turns on and the mes
sage appears , there is a ma lfunction in the en
g ine start system.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dea ler immedi
ately to have the mal function cor rected .
0 Air suspension
Appl ies to vehicles: with a ir suspe nsio n
• Air suspension: system fault. Can contin
ue slowly with ma x. 35 mph .
There is a malfunction that can resu lt in re
stricted driving stability .
Carefully drive at a maximum speed of 35
mph
(60 km/h) to your authorized Audi dealer
or qualified workshop to have the malfunction
corrected .
• Air suspension: service mode. Vehicle
can only be moved with restrictions
Carefully drive to your authorized Aud i dealer
or qualified workshop immediately to have
the service mode deactivated.
l!I Air suspension fault
There is a system ma lfunction that can result
in restr icted driving stability or reduced
ground clearance.
Drive to your authorized Audi dea ler immedi
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
l!I Air suspension: vehicle too low. Ground
clearance reduced
The ground clearance is very low due to a sys
tem malf unct io n. Wait until the air suspen
sion system has restored normal gro und clear
ance . Otherwise, conditions such as an uneven
road surface can lead to vehicle damage.
~/ !f Safety systems
The fl (USA models) !fll (Canada models) in
dicator light monitors the safety systems (e .g.
a ir bags, pretensioners) and illuminates for a
few seconds each time you switch the ignition
on . If the
fl (USA models)
Jfll (Canada models)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi
nates while you are driving, or if it starts to
blink, then there is a malfunction somewhere
in the system. If the light does not illuminate
when you switch the ign ition on, th is also
mea ns there is a malfunct io n.
A WARNING
If you have a ma lfunction in the safety sys
tems, contact your authorized Audi dealer immediately. Otherwise the safety sys
tems may not work properly in an acc i
dent.
f!;.J fj Electronic Stabilization Control
(ESC)
This warning/indicator light monitors the
Electronic Stabilization Control .
When you switch the ignition on, the indicato r
light
G1 turns on briefly to check the function.
If the
G1 indicator lamp blinks while dr iv ing,
the ESC or ASR (Anti-Slip Reg ulation) is active
ly reg ulat ing.
If the
Ji1 indicator lamp illuminates, the sys
tem has switched the ESC
off.
If the indicator light II turns on, the ESC was
switched to ESC sport mode with the button
[!]~page 196. If this is case , you can reacti
vate the ESC by switching the ignition
off and
then on again. The warning/ indicator light
sho uld go out to show that the system is fully
functional again.
Stabilization control (ESC/ABS): Fault! See
owner's manual
If the indicato r light GI and the ABS indicator
li ght
B (USA models) ,1iJ (Canada mod
els) tu rn on and the message appears, there is
a malfunction in the ABS system or electron ic
differential lock. This also inte rr upt s the ESC.
The brakes still function with their norma l
power, but ABS is not active .
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi-
ate ly to have the malfunction corrected. .,..
86 Audi adapti ve cruise control and bra king gu ard
Audi adaptive cruise
control and braking
guard
Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise co ntrol
The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regu lat ing vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system.
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac
celerate your vehicle. This helps to make driv
ing more comfortable both on long highway
stretches and in stop-and-go traffic.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers
c:::> page 92.
Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.

i ce that will interfere with the adaptive cruise
control system and braking guard. For infor
mation on cleaning, refer to
c:::> page 216. The same applies for any modifications made in
the front area.
T he function of the adaptive cru ise contro l
system and braking guard is limited under
some cond itions:
- Objects can only be de tected when they are
w ith in sensor range
c:::> fig . 89.
-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short d istance ahead, off
to the side of your vehi cle or mov ing into
your lane.
- Some kinds of ve hicles are hard to detect;
for examp le motorcycles, veh icles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at all.

& WARNING
A lways pay attention to traffic when adap
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak
ing g uard is active. As the dr iver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main
taining speed and distance to other ob
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you .
The dr iver must a lways take action to avo id
a collis ion . The driver is a lways respons ible
fo r braking a t the co rrec t time.
- Imp roper use of adaptive cru ise control
can cause collisions, other acc idents and
serious pe rsonal in jury.
- Never let the comfort and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking gua rd offer d istract you from the need to
be alert to traffic condit ions and the
need to rema in in fu ll control of your ve
h icle at a ll times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cruise control and braking guard have
limits -they will not s low the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled o r disabled vehicle.
