The driver information system is operated us­
ing the buttons on the multifunction steering
wheel.

Operating concept
• Switch the ign ition on.

On-board computer
You can ca ll up the fo llowi ng i nfo rmation in
the on -board computer :
- Date
- Dr iv ing t ime (h) from the short-te rm memo-
ry
- Average consumption in MPG ( l/100 km)
from the shor t-te rm memory
- Average speed i n mph (km/h) from the
short-te rm memory
- Distance driven in miles (km) from the
short-te rm memory
- Cur rent fuel consumption in MPG (l/100
km)
- Short-term memory overview
- Long-term memory overview
The short -te rm memory collects driv ing infor ­
mation from th e time the ig nition is switc hed
on until it is switched off. If you continue driv­
i ng within two ho urs after switch ing the igni­
tion off, the new values are incl uded when cal­
cu lating the current trip information .
U nlik e the short -term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatically. You can
select the time period for evaluating trip in­
fo rmat ion yourse lf.

trip information from t he temporary memory
in the line

~ Press and hold the button !o::s I for at least
four seconds to store the new open position.
A visual and audio signal will follow.
The settings in the MMI determine if the rear lid can be opened using the handle ¢
page 35.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the button
la l on the remote con-
trol master key, or
- You press the button
la l in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the button
l.:::s ! in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either open or close, depending on
its angle .
Closing will be stopped immediately when:

- When something blocks the rear lid or

If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on

You can manually stop the automatic open­ ing/closing of the rear lid. The automatic clos­
ing process begins if you push down on the
rear lid.
A WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the lug­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.

- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out . To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your vehicle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not
in use.
- Never close the rear lid inattentively or
without checking first. Although the
closing force of the rear lid is Limited,
you can still seriously injure yourself or
others .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges and the up­
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be pinched .
- Never try to interfere with the rear lid or
help it when it is being opened or closed
automatically .
(D Note
The rear lid can bump into objects such as
the garage ceiling when opening and be­
come damaged.
(D Tips
-Audio signals are given when you close
the rear lid using the
l a! button in the
driver's door.
- If there is a mechanical problem with au­
tomatic closing for the rear lid or there is
an obstruction, it opens again immedi­
ately . Check to see why the rear lid could
not be closed before attempting to close
it again .
- The following applies to vehicles equip­
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug­
gage compartment, luggage compart­
ment will automatically unlock itself af­
ter you lock the vehicle. This prevents
you from unintentionally locking your
key in the luggage compartment. .,.

- When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid
can be un locked separate ly by pressing
the button ~ on the master key. W hen
the rear lid is closed aga in, it locks auto­
matically.
Rear lid emergency release
The rear lid con be released in on emergency

Child safety lock for
the rear doors
The power child safety lock locks the rear win­
dows and prevent the rear doors from being
opened from the inside .

To deact ivate the child safe ty lock for the
left/right rear door, press the left/right but­

In order to activate the ch ild safety lock on
the left and the r ight side , press the two safe­

Installing the head restraints
• Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts lock
into place .
• Press the button -ar row-

the head restraint a ll the way down. You
should not be able to pull the head restraint
out of the backrest .
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rea r, the head restraints shou ld be pushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
& WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat. Install the head restraint again im­
med iately once the child seat is removed.
Driv ing without head restra ints or with
head restraints that are not properly ad­
justed increases the r isk of serious or fa­
tal neck injury dramatically .
- Read and heed all WARNINGS

Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allows you to quick ly
and easi ly store and recall personal seating profiles for
the driver and front passenger*.
The memory function is operated through the
master key and the memory buttons in the
driver's/front passenger's* doors.
T he driver's seating profile is stored and as ­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked . The seating profile is reca lled auto­
matically when the vehicle is unlocked. If two
people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master key .
Two seating profiles can be stored in each of
the driver's/front passenger's* doors. Once
stored, these seating profiles can be recalled at any time.
The following sett ings are stored:

Three-zone climate control
Operation
Applies to vehicles: with three-zone climate control
We recommend pressing the !AUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the funct ions on or
off. The dial adjusts the temperature and the
blower . The LED in the buttons illuminates
when the funct ion is active.
IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode maintains a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air d istribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
e °F e Adjusting the temperature
The temperature can be adjusted individually
for the driver and front passenger using the
d ials (!) and @.
~ Adjusting the airflow
Using the dial@, you can manually adjust the
amount of air generated by the blower to suit
your preferences . To have the airflow regulat­
ed automatically, press the
! AUTO ! button.
~. rill, [2] Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually se lect the vents where the
air will flow. To have the air distribution regu­ lated automatically, press the
!AUTOI button .
l""" I Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the veh icle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior . We recommend
switching recirculation mode on when dr iving
through a tunnel or when sitting in traffic
~.& -
The !AUTO ! button or~ button switches recir­
cu lation mode off.
I OFFI Switching the climate control
system on/off
The ! O FF! button switches the climate con trol
system on or off.
It also switches on when yo u
turn the dial or press any button. Airflow from
outside is blocked when the climate control
system is switched off.
IACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the w indows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero.

70 Warm and cold
l The winds hield and s ide windows are defrost­
ed or cleared o f condensation as quickly as
possib le. The maximum amo unt of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off .
The
IAU TOI b utton switches the defroster off.
ICmJ REAR I Switching rear window heater
on /off
The rear w indow heater only operates when
the engine is running . It switches off auto­
matica lly after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear w indow heater from
switch ing off automatically, press and hold
the ~ button for more than 2 seconds. This
remains stored unti l the ignition is switched
off.
~ Ad justing s eat h eat ing
Press ing the button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest setting ( leve l 3) . T he LEDs
indicate the temperature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly unt il the LED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati ­
cally switches from leve l 3 to level 2.
The seat heating for both outer rear seats* is
ad justed using the buttons in the center con­
sole.
Air vents
You can open or close the center and outer
vents in the cockpit and the vents in the rear center console using the ridged thumbwhee ls.
The levers adj ust the direction of the airflow
from the vents.
T he air temperature in the rear can be ad just­
ed so that it is warmer or co lder by turning
the knob to the red or blue area.
A WARNING
- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle . If the windows fog up, p ress the air
recirc ulation button again immediately
to switch off the air reci rculation func­
tion o r se lect defros t.
- I ndividuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature cou ld deve lop burns
when using the seat heating fu nction. To
red uce the risk of injury, these indiv idu­
a ls shou ld not use seat heating.
0 Note
To avoid damage to the heat ing elements
i n the seats, do not kneel o n the sea ts or
place heavy loads on a sma ll area of the
seat.
