Opening rear lid
~ Press the button C$ on the remote key for
at least one second . Or
~ Pull the unlock button C$ in the driver's
door

Closing rear lid
~ Press the close button in the open rear lid

Saving the opening angle of the rear lid
~ Bring the rear lid manually or automatically
to the desired opening position and leave it
in this position.
~ Press the button in the rear lid r:::;, fig. 30 for
at least fou r seconds in order to save the de­
sired opening position. The position can only
be saved start ing at a certain level. T
he sett ings in the radio or MMI* determine if
the rear lid can be opened using the handle
r::::>page 37.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the
C$ button on the remote con-
trol master key for at least one second, or
- You press the
C$ button in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the
C$ button in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons
C$ now, the
rear lid will either open or close, depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close.
Closing will be stopped immediately when :
- You press the
C$ button in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the
C$ button on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons
C$ now, the
rear lid wi ll either close or open, depending on
its ang le.
If you pull lightly on its h andle, the rear lid
will close.
You can manua lly stop the automatic open­
ing/closing of the luggage compartment lid.
T he automatic closing process begins if you
push down on the rear lid.
A WARNING ,..___
-Never close the rear lid inattentive ly or
without check ing first. Although the
closing force of the rear lid is limited,
you can still seriously injure yourself or others.
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in

• Leave the master key with the service per­
sonnel for parking and keep the mechanica l
key with you.
The following buttons are deactivated when
the valet parking function is switched on:
- I a I button in the driver's door
-I a I button on the master key
- Handle in the rear lid
When the va let parking feature is activated,
the message
Valet parking activated appears
in the instrument cluster display when you
switch the ignition on.

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head restra int down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place.
.. Press the button @
Q fig. 62 and slide the
head restraint all the way down. You should
not be able to pull the head restraint out of
the backrest .
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
A WARNING
- Read and heed all WARNINGS
~page 131.
-Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat ~
page 174. Install the head re­
straint again immediately once the child
seat is removed. Driving without head re­
straints or with head restra ints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk
of serious or fata l neck injury dramatical­
ly.
@ Tips
Correctly adjusted head restraints and
safety belts are an extremely effective
comb inat ion of safety features .
Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memo ry function allows you to quickly
and easily sto re an d recall personal seating
profiles for the driver. The memory function is
operated through the master key and the memory buttons in the driver's door.
The drive r's sea ting profi le is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. The seating profile is recalled auto ­
matica lly when the vehicle is unlocked. If two
peop le use one vehicle, it is recommended that each person always uses "their own"
master key .
Up to 2 seat profil es can be stored in the
memory buttons in the driver's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
lected at any time.
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you
can also store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
tro l key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
To assign the dr iver 's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the veh icle, the
funct ion must be act ivated in the rad io or
MMI*

The memory buttons are located in the driv­
er's door.
Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !O FF ! button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up
when the memory function is switched off .
Seat profiles are not stored .
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SET ! button . When the wo rd SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
t ings .
• Press a memory button
dJ J or [II ) briefly . A
tone confirms that the settings wer e stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open , press a memory
button .
• If the drive r's door is closed, press and ho ld
the memory button until the seat adjust­
ment is complete.
A WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting can
only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary -otherwise you risk having an ac­
cident .
- In an emergency the recall procedure can
be cancelled by pressing the
! OF F! switch
or by tapping the memory buttons .

A WARNING
-Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire.
Cigarette lighter

• Press the cigarette lighter in.
• Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops
out.
The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the compressor from the in­
flatable spare kit* when absolutely necessary.
& WARNING ~
The cigarette lighter on ly works when the
ignition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. For
this reason, ch ildren should never be left
unattended in the vehicle because this in­
creases the risk of injury.

You can only enlarge the luggage compart­
ment if the backrest is not locked.
~ WARNING
-
-Th e backrest must always be securely
latched so that the safety belt of the cen­
ter seating position can work properly to
help protect the occupant.
- The backrest must be securely latched in
position so that no items contained in
the luggage compartment can slide for­
ward upon sudden braking .
- Always check whether the latch is fully
engaged by pulling the seatback for­
ward.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat
hardware.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt hardware can break in a crash. Inspect the belts periodically.
Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, buckles , or retractors must be re­
placed.
(D Note
- If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
could damage the head restraints on the
rear seat.
- Slide the belt guide on the outside safety
belt all the way up before folding the
backrest back forward. Make sure the
seat belt is not pinched or damaged
when the rear seat backrest if folded
back. Other objects should be removed
from the rear seat bench to protect the
seatback from damage. Partition net (seatback in upright
position)

The partition net is designed to prevent loose
objects from flying forward into the passen­
ger compartment (e.g. under sudden brak­
ing).

Operation
We recommend pressing the IAUTO I button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C).

Press the buttons to turn the functions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution. The
L ED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are displayed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems *, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately.
The settings are also d isplayed in the climate
con trol system display.
IOFFI Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOF FI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off.
It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from outs
ide is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off.
IACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the w indows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is be low zero.
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi ­
cle is circulated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior. We recommend

w hen the re is no poss ib ility of ove r-rev­
ving the engine .
- W hen the kic k-down comes on, the
transm ission w ill shift d ow n to a lower
gear, depending on vehicle and engine
speeds.
- Tiptro nic is inoperative when the trans ­
m ission is in the fai l-safe mode.
Kick-down
Applies to vehicles : wit h mult itronic/S t ro ni c/tip tro nic
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
Applies to vehicles with a multitronic ®
transmission
W hen you depress the accelerator peda l be ­
yond the res istance point, the transm ission
downsh ifts into a lower gear ratio depend ing
on the vehicle speed and engine speed. As
lo ng as the acce lerator pedal is depressed, the
engine speed is automatically regu lated for
maximum acceleration .
Applies to vehicles with a S tronic ®-/,
tiptronic transmission
When you depress the accelerator peda l be­
yond the resistance point, the automatic t ra nsmission downsh ifts into a lowe r gear, de­
pend ing on veh icle s peed an d eng ine speed .
T he upsh ift int o th e nex t higher gea r takes
place once the max imum speci fied engine
s p eed is reached .
