3. Start the engine by pushing thestart switch.
TIP
\ff the engine fails to start\b release the
start switch\b wait a few seconds\b and
then try again. Each starting attempt
should be as short as possible to pre-
serve the battery. Do not crank the en-
gine more than 10 seconds on any one
attempt.

celerate hard when the en\b\fne \fs
cold!
TIP
The engine is warm when it quickly re-
sponds to the thrott\cle.

Shifting gears lets you control the
amount of engine power available for
star ting off\b accelerating\b climbing
hills\b etc.
The gear positions are shown in the il-
lustration.
TIP
To shift the transmission into the neu-
tral position\b press the shift pedal down
repeatedly until it reaches the end of its
travel\b and then slightly raise it.

2. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
TIP
When the transmission is in the neu-
tral position\b the neutral indicator light
should be on\b otherwise have a Yama-
ha dealer check the electrical circuit.
