CAUTION
When the electric power steering warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, firmly
hold and operate it using more force than usual.
NOTICE
If the fuel filter warning light comes on
Never drive the vehicle with the warning light on. Continued driving with
water accumulated in the fuel filter will damage the fuel injection pump.

(one turn).
Turn the tire jack portion “A” by
hand until the notch of the jack is
in contact with the jack point.
Raise the vehicle until the tire is
slightly raised off the ground.
Remove all the wheel nuts and
the tire.
When resting the tire on the
ground, place the tire so that the
wheel design faces up to avoid
scratching the wheel surface.

The compact spare tire
The compact spare tire saves in your luggage compartment.
Its lighter weight helps to enhance fuel economy.
It permits easier installation in case of a flat tire.
Make sure to check the tire inflation pressure of the compact spare tire.

If you have a flat front tire on a road covered with snow or ice
Install the compact spare tire on the rear of the vehicle. Perform the following
steps and fit tire chains to the front tires.
Replace a rear tire with the compact spare tire.
Replace the flat front tire with the tire removed from the rear of the
vehicle.
Fit tire chains to the front tires.

Remove the valve cap from the
valve of the punctured tire.
Remove the air release cap from
the hose.
Connect the hose to the valve.
Screw the end of the hose clock-
wise as far as possible.

• If the tire inflation pressure is
still lower than the recom-
mended level after inflation for
10 minutes with the switch on,
the tire is too damaged to be
repaired. Turn the compressor
switch off and contact any
authorized Toyota dealer, tire
dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped
professional.
• If the tire inflation pressure
exceeds the recommended
level, let out some air to adjust
the tire inflation pressure.

Disconnect the hose from the valve on the tire and then pull
out the power plug from the cigarette lighter socket.
To spread the liquid sealant evenly within the tire, immediately
drive for about 5 km (3 miles).
After driving for about 5 km (3

If the engine will not start
If the engine still does not start after following the correct starting
procedure (P. 179, 175), confirm the following points.
The engine will not start even though the starter motor
operates normally.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Gasoline engine: Refuel the vehicle.
Diesel engine: (P. 485)
The engine may be flooded. (gasoline engine)
Try to restart the engine again following correct starting proce-
dures. (P. 179, 175)
There may be a malfunction in the engine immobilizer system.
(P. 108)
The starter motor turns over slowly, the interior lights and
headlights are dim, or the horn does not sound or sounds at
a low volume
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
The battery may be discharged. (P. 475)
The battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.

The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and
headlights do not turn on, or the horn does not sound
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
The battery may be discharged. (P. 475)
There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system. (vehi-
cles with smart entry & start system)
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional, if the problem cannot be
repaired, or if repair procedures are unknown.

Remove the engine cover
Positive (+) battery terminal on your vehicle
Positive (+) battery terminal on the second vehicle
Negative (-) battery terminal on the second vehicle
Connect the jumper cable to ground on your vehicle as shown in
the illustration.
Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the engine
speed slightly and maintain at that level for approximately 5
minutes to recharge the battery of your vehicle.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system: Open and close
any of the doors with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
OFF.
Vehicles without smart entry & start system: Maintain the
engine speed of the second vehicle and turn the engine
switch to the “ON” position, then start the vehicle’s engine.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system: Maintain the
engine speed of the second vehicle and turn the “ENGINE
START STOP” switch to the IGNITION ON mode, then start
the vehicle’s engine.
Once the vehicle’s engine has started, remove the jumper
cables in the exact reverse order in which they were con-
nected.
