X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. The yellow

only)/000A (Canada only) indicator lamp flashes for about ten
seconds after the electric parking brake has been applied or
released. It then goes out or remains lit.
The electric parking brake is malfunctioning.
X Switch off the ignition and turn it back on.
X Apply the electric parking brake.
If it is not possible to engage the electric parking brake:
X Vehicles with manual transmission: engage first gear.
X Vehicles with automatic transmission: shift the transmission
to P.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop.
If it is not possible to release the electric parking brake:
X Release the electric parking brake automatically (Y page 150).

You can release the electric parking brake using the automatic
emergency release (Y page 150).
X Vehicles with automatic transmission: shift the transmission
to Pas the electric parking brake is not being applied

leave the ignition switched on, e.g. when washing the vehicle in

overvoltage or undervoltage.
X Remove the cause for the overvoltage or undervoltage, e.g. by
charging the battery or restarting the engine.
X Engage or release the electric parking brake.
If it remains impossible to apply or release the electric parking
brake:
X Switch off the ignition and turn it back on.
X Engage or release the electric parking brake.
If the electric parking brake still cannot be released:

Brake is temporarily inoperative. Possible causes are:
R the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator trim is dirty
R function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the sensors in the bumpers are dirty.
R the rada rsensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio
stations or other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R AMG vehicles: ESP ®
is deactivated.
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Apply the electric parkin gbrake.
X Clean the DISTRONIC PLUS cover in the radiator trim
(Y page 269).
X Clean the bumpers (Y page 269).
X Restart the engine.
X AMG vehicles: reactivate ESP ®
(Y page 60).
If the system detects that the sensors are fully operational, the

In the event a malfunction of the SRS is indicated as outlined above, the SRS may not be
operational.
For your safety, we strongly recommend that you contac tanauthorized Mercedes-Ben zCenter
immediately to have the system checked. Otherwise the SRS may not be activated when needed
in an accident, which could result in serious or fatal injury, or it might deploy unexpectedly and

system's weight threshold is located on the front-passenger
seat.
or
R the front-passenger seat is unoccupied.
The system may detec tobjects or forces applying additional
weight on the seat.
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Apply the parking brake.
X Switch the ignition off.
X Open the front-passenger door.
X Remove the child and the child restraint system from the front-
passenger seat.
X Make sure that there are no objects on the seat adding to the
weight.
The system may otherwise detec tthe additional weight and
interpret the seat occupant's weight as greater than it actually
is.
X Keep the seat unoccupied, close the front-passenger door and
switch on the ignition.
Observe the 00030005(Y page 42) indicator lamp and the
multifunction display and check the following:
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
R the 00030005 indicator lamp must light up and remain lit. When
the indicator lamp is on, OCS (Y page 42) has deactivated the
front-passenger air bag and front-passenger knee bag.
R the following display messages must not appearint he
multifunction display: Front Passenger Airbag Enabled See Operator's Manual or
Front Passenger Airbag Disabled See Operator's Manual .
X Wait for a period of at least 60 seconds until the necessary
system checks have been completed.
X Make sure that the display messages do not appearint he
multifunction display.
If these conditions are fulfilled, the front-passenger seat can be
occupied again. Whether the 00030005indicator lamp remains lit
or goes out depends on how OCS classifies the occupant. 210

deactivated during the journey, although:

an adult
or
R a person larger than a certain size is occupying the front-
passenger seat.
If additional forces are applied to the seat, the system may
interpret the occupant's weight as lowe rthan it actually is.
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Apply the parking brake.
X Switch the ignition off.
X Have the occupant get out of the vehicle.
X Keep the seat unoccupied, close the front-passenger door and
switch on the ignition.
Observe the 00030005(Y page 42) indicator lamp and the
multifunction display and check the following:
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
R the 00030005 indicator lamp must light up and remain lit. When
the indicator lamp is on, OCS (Y page 42) has deactivated the
front-passenger air bag and front-passenger knee bag.
R the following display messages must not appearint he
multifunction display: Front Passenger Airbag Enabled See Operator's Manual or
Front Passenger Airbag Disabled See Operator's Manual .
X Wait for a period of at least 60 seconds until the necessary
system checks have been completed.
X Make sure that the display messages do not appearint he
multifunction display.
If these conditions are fulfilled, the front-passenger seat can be
occupied again. Whether the 00030005indicator lamp remains lit
or goes out depends on how OCS classifies the occupant.
If the conditions are not fulfilled, the system is not operating
correctly.
X Visit a qualified specialist workshop immediately. G

If the 00030005 indicator lamp remains lit with an adulto ccupant on the front-passenger seat
eve nafter performing the above corrective steps, do not have any passenger use the front-
