Room lamp
To turn the room lamp ON or OFF, push
the switch.Boot lamp (if equipped) The boot room lamp comes on when the boot is opened.Vanity mirror lamp (if equipped)
Pull the sunvisor downward and you can
turn the vanity mirror lamp ON or OFF by
pushing the button.

Do not leave the lamp switches on

The boot lamp comes on as long asthe boot lid is open. To preventunnecessary charging system

WARNING - ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the win-
dows immediately.
• Do not inhale exhaust fumes.
Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colourless, odourless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyx- iation.
The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose. If you hear
a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the car, have the
exhaust system checked as soon as possible by an authorised HYUNDAI dealer.
Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run the engine in your
garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the vehicle out.
If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open a rea
with the air intake set at "Fresh" and fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interior.
If you must drive with the boot lid open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary:
1. Close all windows.
2. Open side vents.
3. Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds.
To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front of the windscre en
are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

Starting the engine
WARNING - Ignition switch
Never turn the ignition switch to LOCK or ACC whilst the vehicle
is moving. This would result in
loss of directional control and
braking function, which couldcause an accident.
Before leaving the driver’s seat, always make sure the shift lever
is engaged in 1 st
gear for the man-
ual transaxle or P (Park) for the
automatic transaxle, set the park-
ing brake fully and shut the
engine off. Unexpected and sud-
den vehicle movement may occurif these precautions are nottaken.
Never reach for the ignition switch, or any other controls
through the steering wheel whilst
the vehicle is in motion. The pres-
ence of your hand or arm in this
area could cause a loss of vehicle
control, an accident and serious
bodily injury or death.

Do not place any movable objectsaround the driver’s seat as they
may move whilst driving, inter-
fere with the driver and lead to anaccident.

Starting the engine1. Carry the smart key or leave it inside
the vehicle.
2. Make sure the parking brake is firmly applied
3. Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the clutch
pedal and brake pedal depressed
whilst starting the engine.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park).
Depress the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)
position.
4. Press the ENGINE START/STOP but- ton.
5. In extremely cold weather (below - 18°C / 0°F) or after the vehicle has not
been operated for several days, let the
engine warm up without depressing
the accelerator.
Whether the engine is cold or warm, it
should be started without depressing the
accelerator. Even if the smart key is in the vehicle,
if it is far away from you, the engine
may not start.
When the ENGINE START/STOP but- ton is in the ACC position or above and
a door is opened, the system checks
for the smart key. If the smart key is not
in the vehicle, the " " indicator will
blink on the instrument cluster. And ifall doors are closed, the chime will
sound for 5 seconds. The indicator or
warning will turn off whilst the vehicle is
moving. Always have the smart key
with you.
WARNING

The engine will start, only when the
smart key is in the vehicle.

People with medical devices such
as implanted pacemakers or car-
diac defibrillators should not carry
the smart key near the heart. The
smart key system may affect the
operation of such implanted med-
ical devices. Failure to do so may
result in interference with the med-
ical device, which could result in
serious injury.

What to do in an emergency
When towing your vehicle in an emer- gency without wheel dollies :
1. Set the ignition switch in the ACC posi-tion.
2. Place the transaxle shift lever in N (Neutral).
3. Release the parking brake.
Removable towing hook (front)
1. Open the boot lid, and remove the tow-ing hook from the tool case.
2. Remove the hole cover pressing the lower part of the cover on the front
bumper. 3. Install the towing hook by turning it
clockwise into the hole until it is fullysecured.
4. Remove the towing hook and install the cover after use.
CAUTION
Failure to place the transaxle shift
lever in N (Neutral) may cause inter-nal damage to the transaxle.
