RADIO FREQUENCIES
Note:Changes or modifications notexpressly approved by the party responsiblefor compliance could void the user’sauthority to operate the equipment.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 feet (10metres). A decrease in operating rangecould be caused by:
•weather conditions
•nearby radio towers
•structures around your vehicle
•other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle.
The radio frequency used by your remotecontrol can also be used by other shortdistance radio transmissions (e.g. amateurradios, medical equipment, wirelessheadphones, remote controls and alarmsystems). If the frequencies are jammed,you will not be able to use your remotecontrol. You can lock and unlock the doorswith the key.
Note:Make sure your vehicle is lockedbefore leaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
REMOTE CONTROL
You can program a maximum of eightremote controls to your vehicle. Thisincludes any that were supplied with yourvehicle. The remote controls must remaininside your vehicle during the programmingprocedure. Fasten the front seat belts andclose all doors to make sure thatconflicting chimes do not sound duringprogramming.
Programming a New RemoteControl
1.Turn the ignition key from position 0 toposition II four times within sixseconds.
2.Turn the ignition to position 0. A tonesounds to indicate that it is nowpossible to program a remote control.
3.Press any button on a new remotecontrol within 10 seconds. A tone willsound as confirmation.
4.Repeat step three within 10 secondsfor each new remote control. Do notremove the key from the ignition whenpressing the button on the remotecontrol.
5.Switch the ignition back on (positionII) or wait for 10 seconds withoutprogramming another remote controlto end the key programming. Only theremote controls which you have justprogrammed are now able to lock andunlock your vehicle.
Reprogramming the UnlockingFunction
Note:When you press the unlock buttoneither all the doors are unlocked or only thedriver’s door and the tailgate are unlocked.Pressing the unlock button again unlocksall the doors.
Press and hold the unlock and lock buttonson the remote control simultaneously forat least four seconds with the ignition off.The direction indicators will flash twice toconfirm the change.
To return to the original unlocking function,repeat the process.

WARNINGS
It is extremely dangerous to ride inthe cargo area, inside or outside ofyour vehicle. In a collision, peopleriding in these areas are more likely to beseriously injured or killed. Do not allowpeople to ride in any area of your vehiclethat does not have seats and seat belts.Make sure everyone in your vehicle is in aseat and using a seat belt correctly.
Make sure that the liftgate is closedto prevent exhaust fumes from beingdrawn into your vehicle. This will alsoprevent passengers and cargo from fallingout. If you must drive with the liftgate dooropen, keep your vehicle well ventilated sooutside air does not enter your vehicle.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note:Do not hang anything (bike rack, etc.)from the spoiler, glass or liftgate. This coulddamage the liftgate and its components.
Note:Do not leave the liftgate open whiledriving. This could damage the liftgate andits components.
Opening and Closing the Liftgate
To Open the Liftgate
Press the button located in the top of theliftgate pull cup handle to unlatch theliftgate, then pull on the outside handle.
Opening With the Remote Control
Press the button twice withinthree seconds.
To Close the Liftgate
A recessed grip is located inside the liftgateto help with closing.

It will illuminate when a newmessage is stored in theinformation display. SeeInformation Messages (page 62).
Oil Pressure Warning Lamp
WARNING
Do not resume your journey if itilluminates despite the level beingcorrect. Have the system checked byan authorised dealer immediately.
If it stays on after starting orilluminates when driving, thisindicates a malfunction. Stopyour vehicle as soon as it is safe to do soand switch the engine off. Check the engineoil level. See Engine Oil Check (page 139).
Power Steering Warning Lamp
Illuminates to indicate amalfunction of the powersteering system. You willcontinue to have full steering but will needto exert greater force on the steeringwheel. Have the system checked by anauthorised dealer as soon as possible.
Rear Fog Lamp Indicator
It will illuminate when you switchthe rear fog lamps on.
Seat Belt Minder Warning Lamp
It will illuminate when a seat beltis not fastened. See Seat BeltMinder (page 21).
Shift Indicator
It will illuminate to inform youthat shifting to a higher gear maygive better fuel economy andlower CO2 emissions. It will not illuminateduring periods of high acceleration, brakingor when the clutch pedal is pressed.
Stability Control Indicator
While driving, it flashes when thesystem is operating. After youswitch the ignition on, if it doesnot illuminate or illuminates continuouslywhile driving, this indicates a malfunction.During a malfunction, the system switchesoff. Have the system checked by anauthorised dealer as soon as possible.
If you switch the electronic stabilityprogram off, the warning lamp willilluminate. The lamp will go out when youswitch the system back on or when youswitch the ignition off.

Automatic Transmission
Sounds when you open the driver's doorand do not move the transmission selectorlever to position P.
Key Outside Car
Vehicles With Keyless System
Sounds when you close the door, theengine is running and the system does notdetect a passive key inside your vehicle.
Headlamps On
Sounds when you remove the key from theignition and open the driver's door and youhave left the headlamps or parking lampson.

Sounds when the low fuel warning lampilluminates.
Seat Belt Minder
WARNINGS
The seat belt minder remains instand-by mode when the front seatbelts have been fastened. It willsound if either seat belt is unfastened.
Do not sit on top of a fastened seatbelt to prevent the seat belt minderfrom coming on. The occupantprotection system will only provideoptimum protection when you use the seatbelt properly.
Sounds when your vehicle speed exceedsthe pre-determined limit and the front seatbelts are unfastened. The chime will stopafter a period of time.

WARNINGS
Do not recline the seatback too faras this can cause the occupant toslide under the seat belt, resulting inserious injury in the event of a collision.
Sitting improperly, out of position orwith the seatback reclined too far,can result in serious injury or deathin the event of a collision. Always situpright against your seatback, with yourfeet on the floor.
Do not place objects higher than theseatback to reduce the risk of seriousinjury in the event of a collision orduring heavy braking.
When you use them properly, the seat,head restraint, seat belt and airbags willprovide optimum protection in the eventof a collision.
We recommend that you follow theseguidelines:
•Sit in an upright position with the baseof your spine as far back as possible.
•Do not recline the seatback more than30 degrees.
•Adjust the head restraint so that thetop of it is level with the top of yourhead and as far forward as possible.Make sure that you remaincomfortable.
•Keep sufficient distance betweenyourself and the steering wheel. Werecommend a minimum of 10 inches(25 centimetres) between yourbreastbone and the airbag cover.
•Hold the steering wheel with your armsslightly bent.
•Bend your legs slightly so that you canpress the pedals fully.
•Position the shoulder strap of the seatbelt over the centre of your shoulderand position the lap strap tightly acrossyour hips.
Make sure that your driving position iscomfortable and that you can maintain fullcontrol of your vehicle.
HEAD RESTRAINTS
WARNING
Fully adjust the head restraint beforeyou sit in or operate your vehicle. Thiswill help minimise the risk of neckinjury in the event of a collision. Do notadjust the head restraint when your vehicleis moving.

Adjust the head restraint so that the topof it is level with the top of your head.

WARNINGS
When folding the seatbacks up,make sure that the belts are visibleto an occupant and not caughtbehind the seat.
Make sure that the seats and theseatbacks are secure and fullyengaged in their catches.
HEATED SEATS
WARNING
People who are unable to feel painto their skin because of advancedage, chronic illness, diabetes, spinalcord injury, medication, alcohol use,exhaustion or other physical conditions,must exercise care when using the heatedseat. The heated seat may cause burnseven at low temperatures, especially ifused for long periods of time. Do not placeanything on the seat that insulates againstheat, such as a blanket or cushion. Thismay cause the heated seat to overheat.Do not puncture the seat with pins, needlesor other pointed objects. This may damagethe heating element which may cause theheated seat to overheat. An overheatedseat may cause serious personal injury.
Do not do the following:
•Place heavy objects on the seat.
•Operate the heated seat if water or anyother liquid is spilled on the seat. Allowthe seat to dry thoroughly.
•Operate the heated seats unless theengine is running. Doing so could drainyour vehicle battery.

The heated seat will only operate with theignition switched on.
The maximum temperature is reachedafter five or six minutes. It is regulatedthermostatically.
The heated seat will remain on until eitherthe heated seat switch or the ignition isswitched off.

Note:For vehicles with start-stop thebattery requirement is different. It must bereplaced by one of exactly the samespecification as the original.
The system reduces fuel consumption andCO2 emissions by shutting down theengine when your vehicle is idling, forexample at traffic lights. The engine willautomatically restart when you press theclutch pedal or when required by a vehiclesystem, for example to recharge thebattery.
To obtain maximum benefit from thesystem, move the transmission selectorlever to neutral and release the clutchpedal during any stop of longer than threeseconds.
Using Start-Stop
WARNINGS
The engine may restartautomatically if required by thesystem.
Switch the ignition off beforeopening the bonnet or carrying outany maintenance.
Always switch the ignition off beforeleaving your vehicle, as the systemmay have shut down the engine butthe ignition will still be live.
Note:The system only operates when theengine is warm and the outside temperatureis between 32°F (0°C) and 86°F (30°C).
Note:If you stall the engine, and thendepress the clutch pedal within a shortperiod of time, the system will automaticallyrestart the engine.
Note:The start-stop indicator willilluminate green when the engine shutsdown. See Warning Lamps and Indicators(page 53).
Note:When the start-stop indicator flashesamber, move the transmission selector leverto neutral or depress the clutch pedal.
Note:If the system detects a malfunction,it will switch off. Have the system checkedby an authorised dealer.
Note:When you switch the system off, theswitch will illuminate.
Note:The system automatically turns onevery time you switch the ignition on. Toswitch the system off, press the switch inthe instrument panel. The system will onlybe switched off for the current ignition cycle.To turn it on, press the switch again. For itemlocation See At a Glance (page 8).
To Stop the Engine
1.Stop your vehicle.
2.Move the transmission selector leverto neutral.
3.Release the clutch pedal.
4.Release the accelerator pedal.
The system may not shut down the engineunder certain conditions, for example:
•To maintain the interior climate.
•Low battery voltage.
•The outside temperature is too low ortoo high.
•The driver's door has been opened.
•Low engine operating temperature.
•Low brake system vacuum.
•If a road speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) hasnot been exceeded.
•The driver's seat belt has not beenfastened.

WARNINGS
If you use a car wash with a waxingcycle, make sure that you remove thewax from the windscreen.
Prior to using a car wash facilitycheck the suitability of it for yourvehicle.
Some car wash installations usewater at high pressure. This coulddamage certain parts of your vehicle.
Remove the aerial before using anautomatic car wash.
Switch the heater blower off toprevent contamination of the freshair filter.
We recommend that you wash your vehiclewith a sponge and lukewarm watercontaining a car shampoo.
Cleaning the Headlamps
WARNINGS
Do not scrape the headlamp lensesor use abrasives, alcoholic solventsor chemical solvents to clean them.
Do not wipe the headlamps whenthey are dry.
Cleaning the Rear Window
WARNING
Do not scrape the inside of the rearwindow or use abrasives or chemicalsolvents to clean it.
Use a clean, lint free cloth or a dampchamois leather to clean the inside of therear window.
Cleaning the Chrome Trim
WARNINGS
Do not use abrasives or chemicalsolvents. Use soapy water.
Do not apply cleaning product to hotsurfaces and do not leave cleaningproduct on chrome surfaces for aperiod of time exceeding that which isrecommended.
Industrial-strength (heavy-duty)cleaners, or cleaning chemicals, maycause damage over a period of time.
Body Paintwork Preservation
WARNINGS
Do not polish your vehicle in strongsunshine.
Do not allow polish to touch plasticsurfaces. It could be difficult toremove.
Do not apply polish to thewindscreen or rear window. Thiscould cause the wipers to becomenoisy and they may not clear the windowproperly.
We recommend that you wax thepaintwork once or twice a year.
CLEANING THE INTERIOR
Seat Belts
WARNINGS
Do not use abrasives, or chemicalsolvents to clean them.
Do not allow moisture to penetratethe seat belt retractor mechanism.
