It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ensure that the doors are properly
l ocked.
It depends on the settings in the MMI wheth ­
er the entire vehicle is unlocked or one of the
doors

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the fo llowing:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the veh icle and a second time to
open the veh icle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis­ charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu­
al ly sw itches off unnecessary conven­
ience functions .

Operating locks with the key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver's door can be locked and
unlocked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, please note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The d iodes in the power locking switches il-
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle. .,..

Movement-activated rear lid opening
Applies to vehicles: with convenience key and automatic
rear lid

Requirement: You must have the vehicle key
on you and you must be standing behind the rear lid. The ignition must be switched off.
Make sure you have firm footing.
• Move your foot in a sw inging motion back
and forth under the bumper¢

not touch the bumper. Once the system rec­
ognizes the movement, the rear lid will
open.
The rear lid will on ly open if you make the
movement as described. This prevents the
rear lid from opening due to similar move­
ments such as when you walk between the
rear of the vehicle and your garage door.
General information
If you trigger the function too many times in a
row, the system may switch off tempera rily to
protect the battery. This may happen if:
- yo u park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long period of time.
- you clean your vehicle, for example with a
pressure washer or in a car wash.
- there is heavy rain .
The funct ion will be available again automati­
cally fo r a short time.

Rear lid emergency release
If the central locking system fails, the rear lid
can be opened at the lock cylinder .

- When you leave your vehicle -even if on­
ly briefly- always take the ignition key
with you. This applies particularly when
children remain in the veh icle. Otherw ise
the ch ildren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment (e.g. power
w indows) . The power windows are func­
t ional until t he driver's door or passeng­
er's door has been opened.
- Be careful when closing the windows.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When lo cking the veh icle from outside,
t he ve hicle must be unocc upied s in ce the
w indows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.

What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery hos been discon ­
nected.
• Pull and hold the power window switch un­
ti l the window is fully closed.
• Release the switch and then pull it again for
at least one second .

Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized ac­
cess.

• Open the glove compartment and activate

light in the swi tch illuminates.
• Close the glove compartment and lock it
w ith the mechanical key.
• Leave the master key with the se rvice per ­
sonnel for park ing and keep the mechanical
key with you.
When the "valet parking" feature is activated:

The vehicle can be driven and locked and un­
locked with the master key. Access to the lug­
gage compartment is blocked.

pears in the instrument cluster display when
you sw itch the ignition on.

using fuel unnecessarily. So remove the
roof rack after using it.

ery 12-volt socket.

A WARNING
The sockets and the electrical accessories
connected to them operate only when the ignition is switched on . Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. To re­
duce the risk of injuries , never leave chil­
dren unattended in the vehicle with the ve­
hicle key.

To avoid damaging the socket, only use plugs that fit properly.
- Never connect equipment that generates
electrical current, such as a solar panel
or battery charger, to the 12 volt socket .
This could damage the vehicle 's electri­
cal system.
- The 12 volt socket should only be used
for a short period of ti me as a power
source for electrical equipment. Please
use the electrical sockets in the vehicle
when connecting equipment for longer periods.
@ Tips
When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
tery can still be drained.

- the temperature in the luggage compart­
ment is below 131 °f (55 °C). The cooler
switches off automatically if the tempera­
ture in the luggage compartment exceeds
131 °f (55 °C) . Once the temperature falls
below 131 °f (55 °C) again, the cooler
switches on aga in automatically .
- the battery is adequately charged . The cool­
er switches off automatically if the vehicle
battery voltage falls below a minimum lev­
el. This prevents the battery from discha rg­
i ng . The cooler switches back on again auto­
matically when the battery voltage increases
again (e.g . after starting the engine).
The cooler cools to 42.8 °f
(+ 6 °C) and the
freezer cools to 21.2 °f (-6 °C) in opt imum
cooling cond itions . Th e cooling performance
is affected by the temperature in the luggage
compartment. The temperature inside the
cooler will be higher if the luggage compart­
ment is hot.
A WARNING
To avoid putting the occupants at any risk,
please observe the following safety rules:
- The maximum capacity is 2.5 kg (5.5
lbs.).
- Never overload the cooler. This could
cause injury in the event of a collision or
sudden braking.
- The coo ler lid must always be kept closed
while you are driving. Make sure the re­
taining catch is securely engaged. The
contents of the coo ler could be thrown
forward into the passenger compart­
ment in the event of a collision or under
sudden braking - risk of injury!
- Inflammable liquids, gas canisters, etc.
must not be stored in the cooler -risk of
exp losion! This also includes any prod­
ucts that might emit volatile or inflam­
mable gases.
- Liquids will freeze at temperatures at or
below 32 °f (0 °C) and may cause glass
bottles to burst!

The cooler is located in the rear cabin behind
the center armrest or behind the sliding cover (depending on the equipment fitted in your
vehicle) . The cooler and freezer only work
when the ignition is on .

- If you open the dr iver's door w ith the ig­
nit ion on, a buzzer sounds and the mes­
sage
Igniti on i s on appears in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay. Switch the ign it ion
off .
-If you leave the vehicle with the ignit ion
swi tched on, the ignition will switch off
after a certain period of time. Please
note that e lectrica l equipment such as
exter ior lights wi ll switch off as well
when that happens .

Emergen cy off
If necessary, the engine can be swi tched off
with the selector lever in the R, Dor S posi ­
tions . The eng ine stops if you press the
I START E NGIN E STOP I button at speeds be low
6 mph (10 km/h).

- Never turn off the eng ine unt il the vehi­
cle has come to a complete stop.

- The brake booster and power steering
only work when the engine is running. If
the engine is off, you have to use more
force when steering or braking . Because
you cannot s teer and brake as you usual­
ly would, th is could lead to crashes and
serious injuries.
- For safety reasons , you sho uld a lways
park your vehicle with the selector lever
in P . Otherwise, the vehicle could inad­
vertently roll away.
- After the eng ine has been switched off,
the radiator fan can cont in ue to run for
up to 10 minutes -even with the igni tion
switched off .
It can also switch on again
after some time if the coolant tempera­
ture rises as the result of a heat b uildup
or if the engine is hot and the engine
compartment is additionally heated by
the sun's rays .

CD Note
Do not stop the eng ine immediately after
hard or extended driving. Keep the engine
running for approximate ly two minutes to
prevent excess ive heat bu ild -up .
Starting the engine if there is a
malfunction
It may not be possible to start the engine un­
der certain circumstances , for example if the
battery in the vehicle key is drained, if inter ­
ference is affected the key or if there is a sys­
tem malfunction.

working properly in a collision.
There are some important things you have to know to make sure that the effectiveness of
the system will not be impaired and that dis­
carded components do not cause injury or pol­
lute the environment.
.&_ WARNING
Improper care, servicing and repair proce­
dures can increase the risk of personal in­
jury and death by preventing an airbag
from deploying when needed or deploying an airbag unexpectedly:
- Never cover, obstruct, or change the steering wheel horn pad or airbag cover
or the instrument panel or modify them
in any way.
- Never attach any objects such as cup
holders or telephone mountings to the
surfaces covering the airbag units.
- For cleaning the horn pad or instrument
panel, use only a soft, dry cloth or one
moi5tened with plain water. Solvent5 or
cleaners could damage the airbag cover
or change the stiffness or strength of the
material so that the airbag cannot de­
ploy and protect properly.
- Never repair, adjust, or change any parts
of the airbag system.
- All work on the steering wheel, instru­
ment panel, front seats or electrical sys­
tem (including the installation of audio
equipment, cellular telephones and CB
radios, etc .) must be performed by a
qualified technician who has the training
and special equipment necessary.
- For any work on the airbag system, we
strongly recommend that you see your authorized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop.
- Never modify the front bumper or parts
of the vehicle body.
-Always make sure that the side airbag
can inflate without interference:
- Never install seat covers or replace­
ment upholstery over the front seat- backs that have not been specifically
approved by Audi.
- Never use additional seat cushions that
cover the areas where the side airbags
inflate.
- Damage to the original seat covers or
to the seam in the area of the side air­
bag module must always be repaired
immediately by an authorized Audi
dealer.
- The airbag system can be activated only
once . After an airbag has inflated, it
must be replaced by an authorized Audi
dealer or qualified technician who has
the technical information, training and
special equipment necessary.
- The airbag system can be deployed only
once. After an airbag has been deployed,
it must be replaced with new replace­
ment parts designed and approved espe­
cially for your Audi model version. Re­
placement of complete airbag systems
or airbag components must be per­
formed by qualified workshops only. Make sure that any airbag service action
is entered in your Audi Warranty
& Main­
tenance booklet under
AIRBAG REPLACE­
MENT RECORD.
- For safety reasons in severe accidents,
the alternator and starter are separated
from the vehicle battery with a pyrotech­
nic circuit interrupter.
- Work on the pyrotechnic circuit inter­ rupter must only be performed by a
qualified dealer - risk of an accident!
- If the vehicle or the circuit interrupter
is scrapped, all applicable safety pre­
cautions must be followed.
