Engine revolutions counterThe red zone in the revolutions counter fig. 15 indicates the maximum permis-
sible engine speed for all gears for an engine which has been run in and operating
at a normal temperature. Before reaching th e red zone of the rev counter scale, shift
up into the next higher gear. The engine control unit restricts the engine speed to
a steady limit value.

Note
If the display of the second speed is activated in mph or km/h, this speed is shown

Before the next service interval a key symbol

and the remaining kilometres are
indicated after switching on the ignition fig. 16 . At the same time, a display
appears regarding the remaining days until the next service interval.
The kilometre indicator or the days indicator reduces in steps of 100 km. or days
until the service due date is reached.
A flashing key symbol

and the text Service appears in the display for 20 seconds
as soon as the due date for the service is reached.
Resetting Service Interval Display
It is only possible to reset the Service In terval Display, if a service message or at
least a pre-warning is shown on the display of the instrument cluster.
We recommend having this resetting performed by a specialist garage.
The specialist garage:
•
resets the memory of the display after the appropriate inspection,
•
makes an entry in the Service schedule,
•
affix the sticker with the entry of the follo wing service interval to the side of the
dash panel on the driver's side.
This can be reset as follows: Press the button page 15, fig. 15 and keep it
pressed down, start the ignition, release the button and turn it to the left or right.
Caution
We recommend you ask a specialist garage to reset the service interval display.
Incorrectly setting the service interval display can cause problems to the vehicle.
Note
•
Never reset the display between service intervals otherwise this may result in
incorrect readouts.
•
information is retained in the Service Interval Display also after the battery of
the vehicle is disconnected.
•
The service interval display will need to be re-configured if the instrument
cluster is replaced. Contact a specialist garage. This work is carried out by a
specialist garage.
•
The data displayed is the same after rese tting the display with flexible service
intervals (QG1) using the reset button as th at for a vehicle with fixed service inter-
vals (QG2). We therefore recommend having the Service Interval Display reset only
by an authorised Škoda Service Partner who is familiar with the procedure for reset-
ting the display with a vehicle system tester.
•
Please refer to the brochure Service schedule for extensive information about
the service intervals.
Digital clockYou can set the time with the rotary knob page 15, fig. 15 .
Select the information which you wish to change by turning the button and carry
out the change of the selected information by pressing the button.
WARNING
The clock should not be adjusted while dr iving for safety reasons but only when
the vehicle is stationary!

Starting-off and DrivingSetting steering wheel positionFig. 83 Adjustable steering wheel: Lever below steering columnYou can set the height and the forward/back position of the steering wheel to the
desired position.
– Adjust the driver seat page 11.
– Pull the lever below the steering column down fig. 83 - left. Observe the
guidelines .
– Set the steering wheel to the desired position (concerning height and forward/back position).
– Push the lever upwards as far as the stop.
WARNING
•
You must not adjust the steering wheel when the vehicle is moving!
•
The driver must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the steering wheel
 fig. 83 - right. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that the
airbag system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
•
For safety reasons the lever must always be firmly pushed up to avoid the
steering wheel altering its position unin tentionally when driving - risk of acci-
dent!
•
If you adjust the steering wheel further towards the head, you will reduce
the protection offered by the driver airbag in the event of an accident. Make sure
the steering wheel is aligned to the chest.
•
When driving, hold the steering wheel with both hands firmly on the outer
edge in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positi on. Never hold the steering wheel firmly
in the 12 o'clock position or in another way (e.g. in the middle of the steering
wheel or at the inner steering wheel edge). In such cases, injuries to the arms,
the hands and the head can occur when the driver airbag is deployed.
Ignition lockPetrol engines
- ignition switched off, engine off, the steering can be locked.

Diesel engines - interruption of fuel suppl y, ignition switched off, engine off, the steering can
be locked.

You should not switch on any major elec trical components during the heating
period. Otherwise the vehicle battery will be drained unnecessarily.

The driver must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the steering wheel
 page 82, fig. 89 - left. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that
the airbag system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
•
When driving, hold the steering wheel with both hands firmly on the outer
edge in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positi on. Never hold the steering wheel firmly
in the 12 o'clock position or in another way (e.g. in the middle of the steering
wheel or at the inner steering wheel edge). In such cases, injuries to the arms,
the hands and the head can occur when the driver airbag is deployed.
•
The seat backrests must not be angled too far back when driving otherwise
this will affect proper operation of the se at belts and of the airbag system - risk
of injury!
•
Ensure that there are no objects in the footwell as any objects may get
behind the pedals during a driving or braking manoeuvre. You would then no
longer be able to operate the clutch, to brake or accelerate.
Correct seated position for the front passenger
The front passenger must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm from
the dash panel so that the airbag offers him the greatest possible
safety it is deployed.For the safety of the front passenger and to reduce the risk of injury in the event of
an accident, we recommend the following setting:•
Adjust the front passenger seat as far as possible to the rear.
•
Adjust the head restraint so that the top edge of the head restraint is at the
same level as the upper part of your head page 82, fig. 89 - right.
•
Fasten the seat belt correctly page 87, “How are seat belts correctly
fastened?”.
In exceptional cases the front passenger airbag can be deactivated page 95,
“Deactivating an airbag”.
Manual front passenger adjustment page 11, “Adjusting the front seats”.
WARNING
•
The front seats and the head restraints must always be adjusted to match
the body size of the seat occupant as well as the seat belts must always be
correctly fastened in order to provide an optimal protection for you and your
occupants.
•
The front passenger must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the dash
panel. Not maintaining this minimum dist ance will mean that the airbag system
will not be able to prop erly protect you - hazard!
•
Keep your feet in the footwell at all times while driving. Never place your feet
on the dash panel, out of the window or on the seats. You will be exposed to
increased risk of injury if it becomes ne cessary to apply the brake or in the event
of an accident. If an airbag is deployed, you may suffer fatal injuries when
adopting an incorrect seated position!
•
The seat backrests must not be angled too far back when driving otherwise
this will affect proper operation of the seat belts and of the airbag system - risk
of injury!
Correct seated position for the occupants on the rear seats
Occupants on the rear seats must sit upright, keep the feet in the
footwell and must have their seat belts correct ly fastened.To reduce the risk of injury in the event of a sudden braking manoeuvre or an acci-
dent, the occupants on the rear seats must observe the following:•
Adjust the head restraints so that the top edge of the head restraints is at the
same level as the upper part of your head page 82, fig. 89 - on the right.
•
Fasten the seat belt correctly page 87, “How are seat belts correctly
fastened?”.
•
If you are transporting page 97, “Transporting children safely” children in the
vehicle, please use a suitable child restraint system.
WARNING
•
The head restraints must always be adju sted to match the body size, in order
to offer an optimal protection for you and your occupants.
•
Keep your feet in the footwell at all times while driving. Never place your feet
out of the window or on the seats. You will be exposed to increased risk of injury
if it becomes necessary to apply the brak e or in the event of an accident. If an
airbag is deployed, you may suffer fata l injuries when adopting an incorrect

If the occupants on the rear seats are not sitting upright, the risk of injury is
increased due to incorrect routing of the seat belt.

128Caution
•
Therefore, only operate your vehicle with diesel fuel which complies with the
standard EN 590 (standard DIN 51628 in Germany, standard ÖNORM C 1590 in
Austria). Filling the tank even only once wi th diesel fuel that does not comply with
the standard can result in damage to the engine parts, the lubrication system, the
fuel and exhaust system.
•
If you inadvertently fill up the vehicle with fuel other than the prescribed diesel
fuel, e.g. petrol, do not under any circumstan ces start the engine or turn on the igni-
tion. Extensive engine damage is possible! Contact a specialist garage who will
clean out the fuel system.
•
Water which has collected in the fuel filter can result in engine problems.
•
Your vehicle is not adapted for use of bio-diesel (RME), therefore this fuel must
not be refuelled and driven. Using this biodiesel can lead to damage to the engine
or the fuel system.
Operation in winterWinter-grade diesel fuel
A different grade of diesel fuel is available at filling stations in winter than during
the summer. Using “summer-grade diesel fuel” at temperatures below 0 °C can
result in operational problems because th e diesel becomes viscous as a result of
paraffin separation.
It is therefore the case that the standard EN 590 (standard DIN 51628 in Germany,
standard ÖNORM C 1590 in Austria) is the diesel fuel class prescribed for certain
periods of the year which can also be purchased at the corresponding time during
the year. “Winter-grade diesel fuel” will still operate properly even at a temperature
of -20 °C.
It is often the case in countries with diff erent climatic conditions that diesel fuels
available have a different te mperature characteristic. Th e authorised Škoda Service
Partners and filling stations in the country concerned will be able to provide you
with information regarding the diesel fuels available.
Prewarming fuel
The vehicle is fitted with a fuel filter pr ewarming system. This secures operation of
a vehicle using diesel fuel down to an environmental temperature of -25 °C.
Caution
It is not permitted to add the various fuel additives on the market, including petrol,
to diesel fuel in order to improve its flow properties.

– Unlock the fuel filler cap on the fuel filler tube to the left using the vehicle key.
– Unscrew the fuel filler cap anti-clockwise and place the fuel filler cap from above on the fuel filler flap fig. 119 - right.Closing fuel filler cap– Screw on the fuel filler cap by turning it to the right until it is heard to click.
– Lock the fuel filler cap on the fuel filler tube by turning the vehicle key to the right and withdraw the key.
– Close the fuel filler flap until it locks.
The correct grade of fuel for your vehicle as well as the tyre size and inflation pres-
sures are stated on a sticker affixed to the in side of the fuel filler flap. Further infor-
mation on fuel  page 127.
The fuel tank has a capacity of about 55 litres.
WARNING
Pay attention to any legal requirements if you do carry a spare canister in the
vehicle. We do not recommend carrying any fuel canisters in your vehicle for
safety reasons. The canister can be damaged in the event of an accident and fuel
may leak out.
