Useful information
i This Owner's Manual describes all models
and all standard and optional equipment
available to your vehicle at the time of pub-
lication of the Owner's Manual. Country-
specific deviation sare possible. Please
not ethat your vehicle may not be equipped
with all feature sdescribed. This also
applies to safety-relevan tsystems and
functions.

Key functions
Locking an dunlocking centrally The key centrally locks/unlocks:
R
the doors
R the boot lid
R the fuel filler flap G
WARNING
Only for the United Kingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key, the double lock
function is activated as standard. It is then not
possible to open the doors from inside the
vehicle.
Therefore, do not leave any people behind in
the vehicle, particularly children ,elderly peo-
ple or people in need of special assistanc eif
the vehicle has been locked with the key. As
ar esult, they may not be able to free them-
selves in the event of an emergency. As a
result, they could be seriously or even fatally
injured by prolonged exposure to extremely
high or low temperatures, for example. In this
case, rescuin gpeople from outside the vehi-
cle is difficult.
Deactivate the interior motion sensor before
you lock the vehicle with the key. The doors
can then be opened from the inside after the vehicle has been locked from the outside with
the key.

WARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
R open adoor from inside the vehicle at any
time, even if it has been locked
R start the vehicle using akey which has been
left in the vehicle
R release the parking brake
They could thereby endanger themselves and
others. Never leave children unsupervised in
the vehicle. Always take the key with you
when leaving the vehicle, even if you are only
leaving it for ashort time. G
WARNING
If ak ey ring is too heavy or too large, the
weight actin gonthe key could cause it to turn
in the ignition lock or catc honthe steering
wheel. This could cause the engine to be
switched off suddenly. You may lose control
of the vehicle and cause an accident. Do not
attac hany heavy or large key rings to the key
that is inserted in the ignition. :

When unlocking, the turn signals flash once.
When locking, they flash three times.
You can also set an audible signal to confirm
that the vehicle has been locked or unlocked.

X To unloc kcentrally: pressthe % but-
ton.
If you do not open th evehicle within approx-
imately 40 seconds of unlocking:
R the vehicle is locked again.
R the anti-thef tsystem is primed again.
X To lock centrally: press the&button. KEYLESS-GO
You can start ,loc koru nlock the vehicl eusing
KEYLESS-GO .Todothis, you only need carry
the key with you. When you touch the surface
of the sensors on the vehicle's outside door
handles, KEYLESS-GO establishes aradio
connection between the vehicle and the key.
When the engine is started and whilst you are
driving, KEYLESS-GO also checksw hether a
valid key is in the vehicle by periodically
establishing radio contact.
When lockin gorunlockingw ith KEYLESS-GO,
the distanc ebetween the key and the door
handle you wish to lock or unloc kmust not
be greate rtha n1m. X
To unlock th evehicle: touch th einner

recessed sensor surface ;for an exten-
ded period (Y page 84). If you pull on th
ehandle of th eboot lid, only

If th evehicl ehas been parked for alon gtime,
th es ensor surface sare deactivated automat-
ically. Pull th edoor handle to unlock th edoor
and tur nontheignition once to activat ethe
sensor surface sagain. Changing th
esettings of th elocking
system
You can chang ethe setting of th elocking
system in suc haway that only th edriver's
door and th efuel fille rflap are unlocked. This
is useful if you frequently travel on your own.
X To chang ethe setting: press and hold
down the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery chec klamp (Y page 74)
flashes twice.
i If the settin gofthe locking system is
changed within the signal rang eofthe vehi-
cle, pressing the &or% button locks
or unlocks the vehicle.
The key now functions as follows:
X To unlock th edriver' sdoor: press the
% button once.
X To unlock centrally: press the%but-
ton twice.
X To lock centrally: press the&button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock th edriver' sdoor: touchthe
inner surface of the door handle on the
driver's door.
X To unlock centrally: touchthe inner sur-
face of the front-passenger door handle.
X To lock centrally: touchthe outer sensor
surface on one of the door handles. Key

Only for the United Kingdom:
if the vehicle
has been locked with the key, the double lock
function is activated as standard. It is then
not possible to open the doors from inside the
vehicle. Deactivate the interior motion sensor
(Y page 69) before you lock the vehicle with
the key. The doors can then be opened from
the inside after the vehicle has been locked
from the outside with the key. X
Pull door handle ;.
If the door is locked, lockin gknob :pops
up. The door is unlocked and can be
opened.
i When adoor is opened, the side window
on that side opens slightly. When the door
is closed, the side window closes again.
! The side windows will not open/close if
the batter yisdischarged or if the side win-
dows have iced up. It will then not be pos-
sible to close the door. Do not attempt to
forc ethe door to close. You could other-
wise damage the door or the side window. Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside.
The central locking/unlocking button does
not lock or unlock the fuel filler flap.
i You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally
from the inside if the vehicle has been
locked with the key or KEYLESS-GO. X
To unlock: press button :.

The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels are
turning.
You could therefore be locked out when:
R the vehicle is being pushed.
R the vehicle is being towed.
R the vehicle is being tested on adynamom-
eter. X
To deactivate: press and hold button :
for about five seconds until atones ounds.
X To activate: press and hold button ;for
about five seconds until atones ounds.
You can also switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board com-
puter (Y page 228). 78
DoorsOpening and closing

It is possible to make use of the residual heat
of the engine to continue heating the station-
ary vehicle for up to 30 minutes after the
engine has been switched off. The heating
time depends on the temperature that has
been set.
Coupé: the residual heat function only works
optimally when the side window sand pano-
rama sliding sunroo fare closed.
Cabriolet: the residualh eatfunction only
work soptimally when th esoftt op is closed.
i The blower will run at alow speed regard-
less of the airflow setting.
i If you activate the residual heat function
at high temperatures, only the ventilation
will be activated. The blower runs at
medium speed.
i It is possible that the residual heat func-
tion may be activated automatically an hour
after the key is removed. The vehicle is then
ventilated for 30 minutes to dry the air-
conditioning system.
X Turn the key to position 0in the ignition
lock or remove it.
X To activate: press theÌbutton.
The indicator lamp above the Ìbutton
lights up.
X To switch off: press theÌbutton.
The indicator lamp above the Ìbutton
goes out.
i Residua lheat is deactivated automati-
cally:
R after about 30 minutes
R when the ignition is switched on
R if the battery voltage drops
R if the coolant temperature is too low Auxiliary heating
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Exhaust fumes are produced when the auxili-
ary heating is in operation. Inhaling these
exhaust fumes can be poisonous. You should
therefor eswitch off the auxiliary heating in
confined spaces without an extraction sys-
tem, e.g. agarage. G
WARNING
When operating the auxiliary heating, parts of
the vehicle may become very hot, and highly
inflammable material such as fuels could be
ignited. Operating the auxiliary heating is thus
prohibited at filling station sorwhen your vehi-
cle is being refuelled. You must therefore
switch off the auxiliary heating at filling sta-
tions.
! Operating the auxiliary heating/ventila-
tion draws on the vehicle battery. After you
have heated or ventilated the vehicle a
maximum of two times, drive for alonger
distance.
i Switch on the auxiliary heating regularly,
e.g. for about ten minutes every month.
The auxiliary heating heats the air in the vehi-
cle interior to the set temperature without
using the heat of the running engine. The aux-
iliary heating is operated directly using the
vehicle's fuel. For this reason, the tank con-
tent must be at least at reserve fuel level to
ensure that the auxiliary heating functions.
The auxiliary heating/ventilation automati-
cally adjusts to changes in temperature and
weather conditions. For this reason, the aux-
iliary heating could switch from ventilation
mode to heating mode or from heating mode
to ventilation mode.
The auxiliary heating switches off automati-
cally after 50 minutes. This time limit can be
altered. To do this, visit aqualified specialist
workshop, e.g. aMercedes-BenzS ervice

Problems with the auxiliary heating/ventilation

X Refuel at the nearest filling station.

workshop. Adjusting the air vents
Important safety notes

WARNING
Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air
vents. This could cause burns or frostbit eto
bare skin in the immediate vicinity of the
vents. Keep bare skin away from these air
outlets. If necessary, direct the airflow away
to ad ifferent area of the vehicle interior. In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air ventsi
nto the vehicle interior,
please observe the following notes:
R keep the air inlet between the windscreen
and the bonnet free of blockages, such as
ice, snow or leaves
R never cover the ventsora ir inlets in the
vehicle interior.
i For virtually draught-free ventilation,
adjust the sliders of the air ventstot he
