The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the
driver and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The
buzzer sounds for 30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of 20 km/
h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will
sound in a different tone for 90 more seconds.
Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning buzzer
If luggage is placed on the front passenger seat, the front passenger
detection sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warning
buzzer to sound even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
Electric power steering system warning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient of the voltage tempo-
rarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on
and the warning buzzer may sound.

If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank becomes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle immediately. The
malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional as soon as possible.

The vehicle speed linked seat belt reminder buzzer can be disabled.

However, Lexus recommends that the seat belt reminder buzzer be opera-
tional to alert the driver and front passenger when seat belts are not fastened.
CAUTION
If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.

The rear passengers’ seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver that the
rear seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for 30 seconds after the
vehicle reaches a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt is still

Stowing the flat tire
Vehicles with a 16 or 17 inch
wheel: Before stowing the flat
tire, remove the center wheel
ornament by pushing from the
reverse side.
Place the flat tire on the deck
board, and pass the belt through
the lower-right cargo hook and
then through the hole in the
center of the tire.
Pass the belt through the lower-
left cargo hook.

CAUTION
After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools and jack are securely in place in their
storage location to reduce the possibility of personal injury during a colli-
sion or sudden braking.
When stowing the flat tire
Make sure the rear seatbacks are in their original position.
Secure it using a tire tie-down belt. Otherwise, the flat tire may fly out in
case of sudden braking or an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
Do not drive the vehicle with a flat tire.
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a flat tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair.
Be careful when driving over bumps with the compact spare tire installed on
the vehicle.
The vehicle becomes lower when driving with the compact spare tire com-
pared to when driving with standard tires. Be careful when driving over
uneven road surfaces.
Driving with tire chains and the compact spare tire
Do not fit tire chains to the compact spare tire.
Tire chains may damage the vehicle body and adversely affect driving per-
formance.

NOTICE
When handling jumper cables
When connecting the jumper cables, ensure that they do not become entan-
gled in the cooling fans or belt.
To prevent damaging the vehicle
The exclusive jump starting terminal is to be used when charging the 12-
volt battery from another vehicle in an emergency. It cannot be used to jump
start another vehicle.

CAUTION
To prevent an accident or injury when inspecting under the hood of your
vehicle
If steam is seen coming from under the hood, do not open the hood until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot, caus-
ing serious injuries such as burns.
Check that the indicator on the “POWER” switch and the “READY” indi-
cator are off.
For vehicles with a hybrid system, there are times when the gasoline
engine automatically starts to run or the cooling fans suddenly start to
operate. Do not touch or approach the rotating parts of the belt or fans.
Doing so may lead to fingers, clothes or tools getting caught, resulting in
injury.
Do not loosen the coolant reservoir cap while the hybrid system and radi-
ator are hot.
Serious injury, such as burns, may result from hot coolant and steam
released under pressure.
NOTICE
When adding engine/power control unit coolant
Wait until the hybrid system has cooled down before adding engine/power
control unit coolant.
When adding coolant, do so slowly. Adding cool coolant to a hot hybrid sys-
tem too quickly can cause damage to the hybrid system.
