Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode (without navi-
gation system)
Eco drive mode controls the heating/ cooling operations and fan speed of
the air conditioning system to enhance fuel efficiency. (P. 320) To
improve air conditioning performance, adjust the fan speed or turn off Eco
drive mode.
Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode (with navigation
system)
Eco drive mode controls the heating/cooling operations and fan speed of the
air conditioning system to enhance fuel efficiency. To improve air condi-
tioning performance, adjust the fan speed or turn off Eco drive mode. (Refer
to the “Navigation System Owner’s Manual”.)
For the shift positions
When the “POWER” switch is off, the shift position cannot be changed.
When the “POWER” switch is in ON mode (the hybrid system is not
operating), the shift position can only be changed to N. The shift position
will be changed to N even if the shift lever is shifted to D or R and held
in that position.
When the “READY” indicator is on, the shift position can be changed
from P to D, N or R.
When the “READY” indicator is flashing, the shift position cannot be
changed from P to another position even if the shift lever is operated.
Wait until the “READY” indicator changes from a flashing to a solid
light, and then operate the shift lever again.
The shift position can only be changed to B directly from D.

About engine braking
When shift position B is selected, releasing the accelerator pedal will apply
engine braking.
• When the vehicle is driven at high speeds, compared to ordinary gaso-
line-fueled vehicles, the engine braking deceleration is felt less than that
of other vehicles.
• The vehicle can be accelerated even when shift position B is selected.
If the vehicle is driven continuously in the B position, fuel efficiency will
become low. Usually, select the D position.
Automatically P position selection function
When the “POWER” switch is in ON mode while the shift position is in a
position other than P and the vehicle is stopped completely, pressing the
“POWER” switch will cause the automatically P position selection function
to operate together with the “POWER” switch being turned to off.
If the shift position cannot be shifted from P
There is a possibility that the 12-volt battery is discharged. Check the 12-
volt battery in this situation. (P. 620)
Sport mode automatic deactivation
Sport mode is automatically deactivated if the “POWER” switch is turned
off after driving in sport mode.
After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery

Gauges and meters
The following gauges and meters and display illuminate when the
“POWER” switch is in ON mode:
Hybrid System Indicator
Displays hybrid system output or regeneration level
Tachometer (if equipped)
Displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute
Speedometer
Displays the vehicle speed
ECO lamp and SPORT lamp (if equipped)
Changes colors according to driving mode
Fuel gauge
Displays the quantity of fuel remaining in the tank
Multi-information display

Outside temperature
The temperature range that can be displayed is from -40 C (-40 F)
to 50 C (122 F)

Hybrid System Indicator
Hybrid System Indicator is displayed when the driving mode is other
than the sport mode.
By keeping the indicator needle within Eco area, more Eco-friendly driv-
ing can be achieved.
Charge area indicates regeneration* status. Regenerated energy will be
used to charge the battery.
*:When used in this manual, “regeneration” refers to the conversion of
energy created by the movement of the vehicle into electrical energy.
Power area
Shows that an Eco-friendly driving
range is being exceeded (during full
power driving etc.)
Eco area
Shows that the vehicle is being driven
in an Eco-friendly manner.
Hybrid Eco area
Shows that gasoline engine power is
not being used very often.
The gasoline engine will automatically
stop and restart under various condi-
tions.
Charge area
Shows that energy is being recovered

ECO lamp and SPORT lamp
When sport mode is selected, the SPORT lamp (red) will illuminate.
When all of the following conditions are satisfied and the Eco-friendly
driving, the ECO lamp (blue) will illuminate:
• When driving with the shift position in D
• When either normal mode or Eco mode are selected, and EV drive
mode is not in use
• The vehicle speed is 130 km/h (80 mph) or below.
Tachometer
Hybrid System Indicator automatically switches to the tachometer when the
driving mode is set to the sport mode. However, while the cruise control or
dynamic radar cruise control is active, Hybrid System Indicator will not
automatically switch to the tachometer. When the cruise control or dynamic
radar cruise control is activated while the tachometer is displayed, the
tachometer will automatically switch to Hybrid System Indicator.
Engine speed
On hybrid vehicles, engine speed is precisely controlled in order to help
improve fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions etc.
There are times when the engine speed that is displayed may differ even
when vehicle operation and driving conditions are the same.
Outside temperature display
In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be dis-
played, or the display may take longer than normal to change.
When stopped, or driving at low speeds (less than 20 km/h [12 mph])
When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/exit
of a garage, tunnel, etc.)

CAUTION
If a safety system warning light does not come on
Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS airbag warning light
not come on when you start the hybrid system, this could mean that these
systems are not available to help protect you in an accident, which could
result in death or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional immediately if this occurs.
Warning lights
Warning lights inform the driver of malfunctions in any of the
vehicle’s systems. (P. 558)
