Inspection
INFOID:0000000006225406
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Move joint up/down, left/right, and in the axial directi ons. Check for motion that is not smooth and for signifi-
cant looseness.
Check boot for cracks, damage, and leakage of grease.
Disassemble drive shaft and exchange malfunctioning part if there is a non-standard condition.
INSPECTION AFTER DISASSEMBLY
Shaft
Check shaft for runout, cracks, or ot her damage. Replace it if necessary.
Joint Sub-Assembly (Wheel Side)
Check the following items, replace the parts if necessary.
Joint sub-assembly for rough rotation and excessive axial looseness.
The inside of the joint sub-assembly for entry of foreign material.
Joint sub-assembly for compression scars, cra cks, and fractures inside of joint sub-assembly.
Replace joint sub-assembly if there are any non-standard conditions of components.
Housing (Final Drive side)
Replace housing if there is scratching or wear of housing roller contact surface.
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
1. Check wheel sensor harness for proper connection. Refer to BRC-134, "FRONT WHEEL SENSOR :
Exploded View".

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Explanation of General MaintenanceINFOID:0000000006287728
General maintenance includes those items which shoul d be checked during the normal day-to-day operation
of the vehicle. They are essential if the vehicle is to continue operating properly. The owners can perform
checks and inspections themselves or have their INFINITI dealers do them.
OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE
The maintenance items listed here should be performed fr om time to time, unless otherwise specified.
INSIDE THE VEHICLE
The maintenance items listed here should be checked on a regular basis, such as when performing periodic maintenance, cleaning the vehicle,
etc.
Item Reference page
Tires Check the pressure with a gauge often and always prior to long distance trips.
Adjust the pressure in all tires, including the spare, to the pressure specified.
Check carefully for damage, cuts or excessive wear. WT-69
Wheel nuts
When checking the tires, make sure no nuts are missing, and check for any
loose nuts. Tighten if necessary. —
Tire rotation Tires should be rotated every 12,000km (7,500 miles). If the vehicle is equipped
with different sized tires in the front and rear, tires cannot be rotated. WT-63
Tire Pressure Moni-
toring System (TPMS)
transmitter compo-
nentsReplace the TPMS transmitter grommet seal, valve core and cap when the tires
are replaced due to wear or age.
WT-66
Wheel alignment and
balanceIf the vehicle should pull to either side while driving on a straight and level road,
or if you detect uneven or abnormal tire wear, there may be a need for wheel
alignment. If the steering wheel or seat vibrates at normal highway speeds,
wheel balancing may be needed. FSU-7
RSU-6
Windshield
Clean the windshield on a regular basis. Check the windshield at least every six
months for cracks or other damage. Repair as necessary. —
Windshield wiper
blades Check for cracks or wear if they do not wipe properly. —
Doors and engine
hood Check that all doors and the engine hood operate smoothly as well as the back
door. Also make sure that all latches lock securely. Lubricate if necessary. Make
sure that the secondary latch keeps the hood from opening when the primary
latch is released.
When driving in areas using road salt or other corrosive materials, check lubri-
cation frequently. MA-34
Lamps
Make sure that the headlamps, stop lamps, tail lamps, turn signal lamps, and
other lamps are all operating properly and installed securely. Also check head-
lamp aim. Clean the headlamps on a regular basis. —
Item
Reference page
Warning lamps and
chimes Make sure that all warning lamps and chimes are operating properly. —
Windshield wiper and
washer Check that the wipers and washer operate properly and that the wipers do not
streak.
—
Windshield defroster Check that the air comes out of the defroster outlets properly and in sufficient
quantity when operating the heater or air conditioner. —
Steering wheel Check that it has the specified play. Check for changes in the steering condi-
tion, such as excessive play, hard steering or strange noises.
Free play: Less than 35 mm (1.38 in) —

PRE-CRASH SEAT BELT SYSTEM : System DescriptionINFOID:0000000006237878
Pre-crash seat belt system integrates control unit and motor in driver and passenger seat belt retractors.
Provides a sense of ease when pre-crash seat belt c ontrol unit judges the emergency braking operation, the
intelligent brake assistance operating status, the c ontinuous ABS operating status, the emergency steering
wheel operation, the excessive vehicle inclination stat us, or the lateral slippage status during cornering.
The motor immediately retracts the seat belt and suppresses change in occupant posture.
Even in a situation where a collision is unavoidable, effe cts of other safety devices, like the air bag, are max-
imized and damages are reduced.
Motor retracts seat belt when unfastening and extrac ts seat belt when fastening to reduce the feeling of
pressure. (comfort function)
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
Pre-crash seat belt system operat es under the following conditions.
During emergency brake operation
When ABS continuously operates
When intelligent brake assistance operates
When lateral slippage during cornering occurs
When steering wheel is rotated for emergency

DIFFERENCE IN APPEARANCE
DescriptionINFOID:0000000006256016
While the vehicle is stopped, the difference of vehicle height of right side and left side (between wheel center
and wheel arch) is 25 mm (0.98 in) or more.
Inspection ProcedureINFOID:0000000006256017
1.CHECK APPEARANCE
1. Visually check that the exterior parts (e.g. suspension spring) have no malfunctions.
2. Visually check tube and pipe for crush or oil leakage.
Is the check result normal?
YES >> GO TO 2.
NO >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
2.CHECK CLOGGING OF ORIFICE IN PPMU
1. Install an oil pressure gauge (SST: KV40108000) (A) to oil injec- tion jack.
CAUTION:
Clean surrounding areas of oi l injection jack using steam
before starting oper ation, since there may be mud on it.
Clean oil pressure gauge (special service tool:
KV40108000) jack with steam before use.
Jack must be securely inserted until a click sound can be heard.
Pressure reducing valve (B) of the oil pressure gauge
must be closed.
2. Loosen needle valves A and C of PPMU by approximately 2 rotations for check changes in vehicle height.
CAUTION:
Never loosen the needle valve more than required.
3. Tighten needle valve A and C of PPMU to the specified torque after the inspection.
Does the vehicle height change 10 mm (0.39 in) or more?
YES >> For detailed inspection of clogging of orifice in PPMU, refer to SCS-27, "
Work Procedure".
NO >> INSPECTION END
