• Even though your vehicle is
equipped with the occupant clas-
sification system, do not install a
child restraint system in the front
passenger seat position. A child
restraint system must never be
placed in the front seat. The infant
or child could be severely injured
or killed by an air bag deployment
in case of an accident.
• Children age 12 and under must always be properly restrained in
the rear seat. Never allow chil-
dren to ride in the front passen-
ger seat. If a child over 12 must
be seated in the front seat, he or
she must be properly belted and
the seat should be moved as far
back as possible.
• For maximum safety protection in all types of crashes, all occu-
pants including the driver should
always wear their seat belts
whether or not an air bag is also
provided at their seating position
to minimize the risk of severe
injury or death in the event of a
crash. Do not sit or lean unneces-
sarily close to the air bag while
the vehicle is in motion.

• No objects should be placed overor near the air bag modules on
the steering wheel, instrument
panel, and the front passenger's
panel above the glove box,
because any such object could
cause harm if the vehicle is in a
crash severe enough to cause
the air bags to deploy.
• Never place covers, blankets or seat warmers on the passenger
seat as these may interfere with
the occupant classification sys-
tem.
• Do not tamper with or disconnect SRS wiring or other components
of the SRS system. Doing so
could result in injury, due to acci-
dental deployment of the air bags
or by rendering the SRS inopera-
tive.
• If the SRS air bag warning light remains illuminated while the
vehicle is being driven, have an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer
inspect the air bag system as
soon as possible.

• Air bags can only be used once –have an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer replace the air bag imme-
diately after deployment.
• The SRS is designed to deploy the front air bags only when an
impact is sufficiently severe and
when the impact angle is less
than 30° from the forward longitu-
dinal axis of the vehicle.
Additionally, the air bags will only
deploy once. Seat belts must be
worn at all times.
• Front air bags are not intended to deploy in side-impact, rear-
impact or rollover crashes. In
addition, front air bags will not
deploy in frontal crashes below
the deployment threshold.

SRS CareThe SRS is virtually maintenance-free
and so there are no parts you can safely
service by yourself. If the SRS air bag
warning light " " does not illuminate,
when you turn the ignition on, or continu-
ously remains on, have your vehicle
immediately inspected by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
Any work on the SRS system, such as
removing, installing, repairing, or any
work on the steering wheel, the front
passenger's panel, front seats and roof
rails must be performed by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer. Improper handling of
the SRS system may result in serious
personal injury.

WARNING
• Modification to SRS componentsor wiring, including the addition
of any kind of badges to the pad
covers or modifications to the
body structure, can adversely
affect SRS performance and lead
to possible injury.
• Not only the modification of the parts where the SRS sensors are
but also the modification of other
parts of the vehicle may affect the
SRS performance and lead to
possible injury.
• For cleaning the air bag pad cov- ers, use only a soft, dry cloth or
one which has been moistened
with plain water. Solvents or
cleaners could adversely affect
the air bag covers and proper
deployment of the system.
•No objects should be placed over
or near the air bag modules on the
steering wheel, instrument panel,
and the front passenger's panel
above the glove box, because any
such object could cause harm if the
vehicle is in a crash severe enough
to cause the air bags to inflate.

• If the air bags inflate, they must be replaced by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
• Do not tamper with or disconnect SRS wiring, or other components
of the SRS system. Doing so

dental inflation of the air bags or

• If components of the air bag sys- tem must be discarded, or if the
vehicle must be scrapped, certain
safety precautions must be
observed. An authorized
HYUNDAI dealer knows these
precautions and can give you the
necessary information. Failure to
follow these precautions and pro-
cedures could increase the risk
of personal injury.
• If your car was flooded and has soaked carpeting or water on the
flooring, you shouldn't try to start
the engine; have the car towed to
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

LockingUsing the door handle switch
Pressing the button of the front outside
door handles with all doors closed and
any door unlock, locks all the doors. If all
doors, trunk and engine hood are closed,
the hazard warning lights will blink and
the chime will sound once to indicate that
all doors are locked.However, if any door remains open, the
doors won't lock and the chime will sound
for 3 seconds. Close the door and try
again to lock the doors.
If trunk lid or engine hood remains open,
the hazard warning light and chime won't
operate. After this, trunk lid and engine
hood are closed, the hazard warning
lights blink once.
The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 28~40in. (0.7~1m)
from the outside door handle.
If you want to make sure that a door has
locked or not, you should check the door
lock button inside the vehicle or pull the
outside door handle.
Even though you press the outside door
handle buttons, the doors will not lock
and the chime will sound for 3 seconds if
any of following occur:
• The smart key is in the vehicle.
• The ignition switch is in ACC or ON
position.
• Any door except the trunk is open. Using the button on the smart key
All doors are locked if the lock button(1)
is pressed. If all doors, trunk and hood
are closed, the hazard warning lights will
blink and the chime will sound once to
indicate that all doors are locked.
However, if any door, trunk or engine
hood remains open, the hazard warning

Press the button of the driver’s outside
door handle with all doors closed and
locked, unlocks the driver’s door. The
hazard warning lights will blink and the
chime will sound twice to indicate that the
driver’s door is unlocked. All doors are
unlocked if the button is pressed once
more within 4 seconds. The hazard warn-
ing lights will blink and the chime will
sound twice to indicate that all the doors
are unlocked.
Press the button of the front passenger’s
outside door handle with all doors closed
and locked, unlocks all the doors. The
hazard warning lights will blink and the
chime will sound twice to indicate that all
doors are unlocked. The button will only
operate when the smart key is within
28~40 in. (0.7~1 m) from the outside
door handle.
When the smart key is recognized in the
area of 28~40 in. (0.7~1 m) from the front
outside door handle, other people can
also open the doors without possession
of the smart key.
After pressing the button, the doors will
lock automatically unless you open any
door within 30 seconds. Using the button on the smart key
The driver's door is unlocked if the unlock
button(2) is pressed once. The hazard
warning lights will blink and the chime will
sound twice to indicate that the driver's
door is unlocked.
All doors are unlocked if the unlock but-
ton is pressed once more within 4 sec-
onds. The hazard warning lights will blink
and chime will sound twice again to indi-
cate that all doors are unlocked.
After pressing this button, the doors will
lock automatically unless you open any
door within 30 seconds.
Trunk unlocking Using the trunk handle switch
If the trunk is locked and if you are within
28~40 in. (0.7~1 m) from the outside
trunk handle with your smart key in your
possession, the trunk will unlock when
you press the trunk handle switch.
Also, once the trunk is opened and then
closed, the trunk will be locked automati-
cally.
Using the button on the smart key
The trunk is opened if the trunk unlock
button(3) is pressed for more than 1 sec-
ond.
Once the trunk is opened and then
closed, the trunk will lock automatically.

PanicThe horn sounds and hazard warning
lights flash for about 30 seconds if this
button(4) is pressed for more than 1 sec-
ond. To stop the horn and lights, press
any button on the smart key.Start-upYou can start the engine without inserting
the key. For detailed information refer to
the “Engine start/stop button” in section
5.
Smart key precautions✽NOTICE• If, for some reason, you happen to lose
your smart key, you will not be able to
start the engine. Tow the vehicle, if
necessary, and contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
• A maximum of 2 smart keys can be registered to a single vehicle. If you
lose a smart key, you should immedi-
ately take the vehicle and key to your
authorized HYUNDAI dealer to pro-
tect it from potential theft.
• The smart key will not work if any of the following occur:
- The smart key is close to a radiotransmitter such as a radio station or
an airport which can interfere with
normal operation of the smart key.
- The smart key near a mobile two- way radio system or a cellular
phone.
- Another vehicle’s smart key is being operated close to your vehicle.
When the smart key does not work
correctly, open and close the door with
the mechanical key. If you have a
problem with the smart key, contact
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
Keep the smart key away from
water or any liquid. If the keylessentry system is inoperative due toexposure to water or liquids, it willnot be covered by your manufactur-er’s vehicle warranty.

lights (and/or the horn) will not operate.
But if all doors, trunk lid and engine hood
are closed after the lock button is
pressed, the hazard warning lights will
blink once.
Unlock (2) The driver's door is unlocked if the unlock
button is pressed once. The hazard
warning lights will blink twice to indicate
that the driver's door is unlocked.
After depressing this button, the doors
will be locked automatically unless you
open any door within 30 seconds.
Trunk unlock (3)The trunk is unlocked if the button is
pressed for more than 1 second.
Also, once the trunk is opened and then
closed, the trunk will be locked automati-
cally.Panic (4)The horn sounds and hazard warning
lights flash for about 30 seconds if this
button is pressed for more than 0.5 sec-
ond. To stop the horn and lights, press
any button except the trunk button on
the transmitter

This system is designed to provide pro-
tection from unauthorized entry into the
vehicle. This system is operated in three
stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the
second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and
the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If trig-
gered, the system provides an audible
alarm with blinking of the hazard warning
lights.
Armed stageUsing the smart keyPark the vehicle and stop the engine.
Arm the system as described below.
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Make sure that all doors, the engine
hood and trunk lid are closed and
latched.
3.
• Lock the doors by pressing the button of
the front outside door handle with the
smart key in your possession.
After completion of the steps above, the
hazard warning lights and chime will
operate once to indicate that the system
is armed.
If any door remains open, the doors won't
lock and the chime will sound for 3 sec-
onds. Close the door and try again to lock
the doors.
If trunk lid or engine hood remains open,
the hazard warning lights and chime
won't operate and theft-alarm will not
arm. After this, trunk lid and engine hood
are closed, the hazard warning lights
blink once.
CAUTION
• The transmitter is designed to give you years of trouble-freeuse, however it can malfunction ifexposed to moisture or static electricity. If you are unsure howto use your transmitter or replace the battery, contact an authorizedHYUNDAI dealer.
• Using the wrong battery can cause the transmitter to malfunc-tion. Be sure to use the correctbattery.
• To avoid damaging the transmit- ter, don't drop it, get it wet, orexpose it to heat or sunlight.
CAUTION
An inappropriately disposed bat- tery can be harmful to the environ-ment and human health.
Dispose the battery according toyour local law(s) or regulation.
