TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
AND DYNAMIC STABILITY
CONTROL (ESP)
These systems are linked and
complement the ABS.
The ASR system is very useful for
maintaining optimum drive and
avoiding losses of control of the vehicle
on acceleration.
The system optimises drive to prevent
the wheels skidding, by acting on the
brakes of the drive wheels and on the
engine. It also allows the directional
stability of the vehicle to be improved
on acceleration.
Use the ESP to hold your course
without attempting to countersteer.
If there is a variation between the
trajectory followed by the vehicle and
that required by the driver, the ESP
system automatically acts on the
engine and the brake of one or more
wheels, in order to put the vehicle back
on course. Disarming the ASR/ESP
systems
In certain exceptional conditions
( s t a r t i n g t h e v e h i c l e w h e n s t u c k i n m u d
or snow, or on loose ground...), it could
prove useful to disarm the ASR and
ESP systems to make the wheels spin
and regain grip.
Operating check
Good practice
The ASR/ESP systems offer increased
safety during normal driving, but
should not incite the driver to take risks
or to drive at high speed.
The operation of these systems is
ensured if the recommendations
of the manufacturer regarding
t h e w h e e l s ( t y r e s a n d r i m s ) , t h e
braking components, the electronic
c o m p o n e n t s a n d t h e fi t t i n g a n d r e p a i r
procedures within the CITROËN
network are observed.
After an impact, have these systems
checked by a CITROËN dealer.
Operation of the ASR and ESP
systems
T h e L E D fl a s h e s w h e n t h e
ASR or ESP is triggered.
They engage again:
- automatically above 30 mph ( 5 0 k m / h ) , When a malfunction of the
systems occurs, the indicator
light comes on, accompanied
by an audible signal and a
message on the display.
Contact a CITROËN dealer to have the
system checked.
The warning light may also come on if
t h e t y r e s a r e u n d e r - i n fl a t e d . C h e c k t h e
pressure of each tyre.
- Press the button or turn the dial to the ESP OFF
p o s i t i o n ( d e p e n d i n g o n
model).
- T h e i n d i c a t o r l i g h t c o m e s o n : t h e A S R and ESP systems no longer act.

Seat belts
SEAT BELTS
Height adjustment
Squeeze the control with the return and
slide the assembly on the driver's seat
side and on the individual passenger
seat side.
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
into the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap. Driver's seat belt not fastened

Unfastening
Press the red button.
When the vehicle is started,
this warning light comes on if
the driver has not fastened his
seat belt. Good practice
The driver must ensure that
passengers use the seat belts correctly
and that they are all strapped in
securely before moving off.
Wherever you are seated in the
vehicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel which automatically adjusts the
length of the strap to your size.
D o n o t u s e a c c e s s o r i e s ( c l o t h e s p e g s ,
clips, safety pins, etc.) which permit a
clearance with the seat belt straps.
Ensure that the seat belt is rolled up
correctly after use.
After folding or moving a seat or a rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is
rolled up correctly and that the buckle
is ready to accommodate the tongue.
Depending on the nature and
seriousness of any impact, the
pretensioning device may be triggered
b e f o r e a n d i n d e p e n d e n t l y o f i n fl a t i o n
of the airbags. It instantly tightens
the seat belts against the body of the
occupants.
Triggering of the pretensioners is
accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.

Seat belts
Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less than 12 years old
o r s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e fi f t y ,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap, even with the seat belt
fastened.
For further information regarding
child seats, refer to the "Children
on board" section of chapter 4.
Clean the seat belt straps with
soapy water or a textile cleaning
product, sold by CITROËN
dealers.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, your CITROËN dealer
guarantees all work or any checks,
from testing to maintenance, on your
seat belt equipment.
Have the seat belts checked regularly
( e v e n a f t e r a m i n o r i m p a c t ) b y a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r : t h e y m u s t n o t s h o w
any signs of wear, cutting or fraying
and they must not be transformed or
m o d i fi e d .
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt against the body of the
occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is switched on.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a d e v i c e
which automatically locks the strap in
the event of a collision or emergency
braking or if the vehicle rolls over.
You can unfasten the seat belt by
pressing the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt after unfastening.
The airbag warning light comes on
if the pretensioners are triggered.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
In order to be effective, a seat belt
m u s t :
- restrain one person only,
- must not be twisted, check by
pulling in front of you with an even
movement,
- be tightened as close to the body as possible.
The upper part of the seat belt
should be positioned in the hollow of
the shoulder.
The lap part should be placed as low
as possible on the pelvis.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e c o m p l e t e l y .
I f t h e s e a t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a r m r e s t s , t h e
lap part of the seat belt should always
pass under the armrest.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
c o r r e c t l y b y p u l l i n g t h e s t r a p fi r m l y . Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h
pretensioners and force limiters.
Rear seat belts
(5 seat version)

Airbags
Front airbags
The front airbags are incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel for the
driver and in the fascia for the front
passenger.
Activation
They are deployed simultaneously,
unless the passenger's front airbag
has been disarmed, in the event of a
serious front impact applied to all or
part of the front impact zone A in the
longitudinal centreline of the vehicle
on a horizontal plane directed from the
front towards the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front occupant of the vehicle and
the fascia to cushion his forward
movement. Disarming
The passenger's front airbag alone can
b e d i s a r m e d :
-
With the ignition switched off ,
insert the key into the passenger
airbag disarming switch,
- turn it to the off "OFF" position,
- then remove the key keeping the slot in this position.
The airbag warning light on the
instrument panel is lit throughout
the period of disarming. If the two airbag warning lights
are lit continuously, do not install
a rear-facing child seat. Consult a
CITROËN dealer.
Front airbag fault
To ensure the safety of your
child, it is essential to disarm the
passenger airbag when you install
a rear-facing child seat on the front
passenger seat. Otherwise, the child
would risk being killed or seriously
i n j u r e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e . Reactivation
In the
"OFF" position, the passenger
airbag will not be triggered in the event
of an impact.
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the airbag slot to the "ON"
position to re-activate the airbag
and thus ensure the safety of your
passenger in the event of an impact.
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
display, consult a CITROËN
dealer to have the system
checked.

Airbags
Curtain airbags
This is a system which protects the
d r i v e r a n d p a s s e n g e r s ( w i t h t h e
exception of the centre seat of row 2)
in the event of a serious side impact in
order to limit the risk of head injuries.
Each curtain airbag is incorporated in
the pillars and the upper part of the
passenger compartment.
Activation
It is triggered at the same time as the
corresponding side airbag in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the outside
towards the inside of the vehicle.

front or rear occupant of the vehicle
and the windows.
Side airbags
This is a system which protects the
driver and front passenger in the event
of a serious side impact in order to limit
the risk of injury to the chest.
Each side airbag is incorporated in the
front seat back frame, on the door side.
Activation
It is triggered unilaterally in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone
B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the outside
towards the inside of the vehicle.

If this warning light comes
on on the instrument panel,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message
on the display, contact a
CITROËN dealer to have the system
checked. The airbags may no longer
be triggered in the event of a serious
impact.
In the event of a minor impact or
bump on the side of the vehicle or
if the vehicle rolls over, the airbag
may not be triggered.

Towing a trailer
Good Practice
In certain cases of particularly arduous
use (towing the maximum load up a
steep slope in high temperatures), the
engine automatically limits its power. In
this case, the automatic cutting off of
the air conditioning allows the engine
power to be recovered.
Tyres:
Check the tyre pressures of the
t o w i n g v e h i c l e ( s e e t h e " I d e n t i fi c a t i o n
features" section of chapter 8) and of
the trailer, observing the recommended
pressure. See the "Levels" section of
chapter 6.
If the coolant temperature
warning light comes on, stop
the vehicle and switch off the
engine as soon as possible.
Brakes
Towing increases the braking distance.
Drive at a moderate speed, change
down early and brake gradually. Towbar
We recommend the use of original
CITROËN towbars and their
harnesses, which have been tested
and approved from the design stage of
your vehicle, and that you entrust the
fi t t i n g o f t h i s e q u i p m e n t t o a C I T R O Ë N
dealer.
I f t h i s e q u i p m e n t i s n o t fi t t e d b y a
CITROËN dealer, it is imperative that
i t i s fi t t e d u s i n g t h e e l e c t r i c a l p r e -
e q u i p m e n t i n s t a l l e d a t t h e r e a r o f t h e
vehicle and in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
In accordance with the general
instructions a reminder of which has
been given above, we draw your
a t t e n t i o n t o t h e r i s k l i n k e d w i t h fi t t i n g
a towbar or electrical accessory not
recommended by CITROËN. Fitting
s u c h e q u i p m e n t c o u l d r e s u l t i n t h e
failure of your vehicle's electronic
system. Please contact a CITROËN
d e a l e r f o r i n f o r m a t i o n b e f o r e fi t t i n g t h i s
t y p e o f e q u i p m e n t .
Side wind
Sensitivity to side wind is increased.
Drive smoothly and at a moderate
speed.
ABS/ESP
The ABS or ESP systems only control
the vehicle, not the trailer or caravan.
Rear parking assistance
The assistance does not function while
the vehicle is towing.

Levels
Cooling system
O n l y u s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
manufacturer.
O t h e r w i s e , y o u r i s k s e r i o u s l y d a m a g i n g
your engine.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is controlled
by the engine fan. As this fan can
o p e r a t e w i t h t h e i g n i t i o n k e y r e m o v e d
and because the cooling system is
pressurised, wait for at least one hour
after the engine has stopped before
c a r r y i n g o u t a n y w o r k .
S l a c k e n t h e c a p b y 1 / 4 o f a t u r n t o
release the pressure to prevent any
r i s k o f s c a l d i n g . W h e n t h e p r e s s u r e
has dropped, remove the cap and top
up the level with coolant.
I f fl u i d h a s t o b e a d d e d f r e q u e n t l y ,
this indicates a fault which must be
c h e c k e d b y a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r a s
soon as possible. Power steering fluid level
T h e v e h i c l e m u s t b e p a r k e d o n l e v e l
ground with the engine cold. Unscrew
the cap integrated with the gauge and
c h e c k t h e l e v e l w h i c h m u s t b e b e t w e e n
t h e M I N a n d M A X m a r k s .
I n o r d e r t o r e g e n e r a t e t h e fi l t e r , y o u a r e
advised to drive at a speed higher than
4 0 m p h ( 6 0 k m / h ) f o r a t l e a s t fi v e m i n u t e s
a s s o o n a s p o s s i b l e , w h e n t r a f fi c c o n d i t i o n s
p e r m i t ( u n t i l t h e m e s s a g e d i s a p p e a r s a n d
t h e s e r v i c e w a r n i n g l a m p g o e s o f f ) .
During regeneration of the particle emission
fi l t e r , t h e n o i s e o f a r e l a y o p e r a t i n g m a y b e
heard under the dashboard.
If the message is still displayed and if the
service warning lamp remains on, consult a
CITROËN dealer.
Topping up
The level must be between the MIN
a n d M A X m a r k s o n t h e e x p a n s i o n
b o t t l e . I f m o r e t h a n 1 l i t r e o f fl u i d i s
required to top up the level, have the
s y s t e m c h e c k e d b y a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r . Screenwash and headlamp
wash level
For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we would advise that you use
products of the CITROËN range.
For optimum cleaning and to avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d m u s t n o t b e t o p p e d
up or replaced with plain water.
Capacity of the screenwash reservoir:
approximately 3 litres.
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h h e a d l a m p
washers, the capacity of the reservoir
is 6 litres.
Diesel additive level
(Diesel with particle
emission filter)
The minimum level of this
additive is indicated by lighting of the
service warning lamp, accompanied
by an audible signal and a message in
the screen.
When this occurs with the engine
running it is due to the start of
s a t u r a t i o n o f t h e p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r
( e x c e p t i o n a l l y p r o l o n g e d u r b a n t y p e
driving conditions: low speed, long
t r a f fi c j a m s , . . . ) . Topping up
It is imperative that this additive is
topped up by a CITROËN dealer
without delay.
Used oil
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil
w i t h t h e s k i n .
B r a k e fl u i d i s h a r m f u l t o h e a l t h a n d
very corrosive.
D o n o t d i s p o s e o f u s e d o i l , b r a k e fl u i d
or coolant into drains or into the ground
but into the containers dedicated to this
u s e a t C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r ( F r a n c e ) o r a n
authorised waste disposal site.

mechanical system prevents
o p e n i n g o f t h e l e f t - h a n d s i d e d o o r .
W h e n t h e f u e l fi l l e r fl a p i s o p e n , e n s u r e
that no one tries to slide this door.
O n c e t h e fl a p h a s b e e n c l o s e d , t h e
s l i d i n g s i d e d o o r m a y j a m , p u s h t h e
door to close it then open it.
W h e n t h e m i n i m u m f u e l t a n k
level is reached, this warning
light comes on.
You then have
approximately 8 litres of
fuel remaining. Fill up without delay to
avoid running out of fuel.
N e v e r r i s k d r i v i n g u n t i l y o u r u n o u t
of fuel as this may damage the
a n t i p o l l u t i o n a n d i n j e c t i o n s y s t e m s . A l a b e l a f fi x e d t o t h e i n s i d e o f t h e fl a p
reminds you of the type of fuel to be
used.
Y o u m u s t fi l l w i t h a t l e a s t 5 l i t r e s o f f u e l
for it to be registered by the fuel gauge.
W h e n t h e f u e l fi l l e r c a p i s o p e n e d ,
there may be a slight air suction noise.
This vacuum is entirely normal and is
due to the sealing of the fuel circuit.
W h e n fi l l i n g t h e f u e l t a n k , d o n o t
c o n t i n u e a f t e r t h e 3 r d c u t - o f f o f t h e
nozzle. This could cause malfunctions.
T h e c a p a c i t y o f t h e f u e l t a n k i s
approximately 60 litres.
- A f t e r fi l l i n g t h e f u e l t a n k , l o c k t h e
c a p a n d c l o s e t h e fl a p . Quality of the fuel used for
petrol engines
The petrol engines are perfectly
compatible with E10 type petrol
b i o f u e l s ( c o n t a i n i n g 1 0 % e t h a n o l ) ,
conforming to European standards
EN 228 and EN 15376.
E 8 5 t y p e f u e l s ( c o n t a i n i n g u p t o 8 5 %
e t h a n o l ) a r e r e s e r v e d e x c l u s i v e l y f o r
v e h i c l e s m a r k e t e d f o r t h e u s e o f t h i s
t y p e o f f u e l ( B i o F l e x v e h i c l e s ) . T h e
quality of the ethanol must comply with
European standard EN 15293.
For Brazil only, special vehicles are
m a r k e t e d t o r u n o n f u e l s c o n t a i n i n g u p
t o 1 0 0 % e t h a n o l ( E 1 0 0 t y p e ) .
