Adjusting the display and warning tones
Th e display and warning tones can be adjusted in the
MM I.
-Select: Funct ion button !CA R]> Systems *> Parking
system .
Display
• Off -when the parking system is switche d off, only audible sig na ls
are given.
• On -when t he pa rking system is swi tched on, the pic ture from the
rear view camera is displayed.
Warning tones
• Rear volume -rear sensor vo lume
• Rear frequency -rear sensor frequency
• In-car entertainment fader -w hen the p ark in g sys tem is switche d
on, t he volume of the active audio source is lowered.
Th e newly adj uste d value is briefly hear d from the signal generator .
Th e set tings are automat ically stored and assigned to the master key
with remote control.

Always make sure that the volume and frequency of the
warning tones i s adju sted so that you can easily hear the acou stic
distance signal even if the radio is playing , the air-conditioner
blower is on High or there is a high level of outside noise.
• Check the settings whenever someone else has driven the
vehicle before you.

Error messages
If a warni ng tone is aud ible fo r about five se conds when yo u turn on
the ignition, the re is a ma lfunction in t he system. Have the prob lem
co rrected by yo ur a utho rized Audi dea ler .
K eep the se nsors in the rear b umper clean and free from i ce so t hat
the acoustic pa rk assist system can function p roper ly .•

Damping

Description
Adaptive Air Suspension and damping can be regula ted
and they adapt automatically to a request from the
driver and the driving situation at the time .
Adaptive Air Suspension is an e lectron ically controlled springing and
damping system . This chass is system makes it eas ie r on the driver by
adapting to the particular situation th rough impe rceptible contro l
processes .
The
Adaptive Air Suspension component regu lates ground clearance
depending on ve hicl e speed, load cond ition and driver input.
W hen the system is in a utomatic mode, accelerat ing to a speed above
a predete rm ined limit will make the vehicle lower itsel f. On t he othe r
hand, driv ing more slowly res ults in the vehicle ra is ing again at
specific speeds.
Th e
damping component provides individua l control of the damping
forces. For example, with damp ing characterist ics set to provide
greater com fort, damp ing is se t somewhat harder for a br ief period
only as required, for example, whe n going around a curve or over
rough road sur faces as we ll as when braking .
Settings
Adaptive Air Suspension prov ides the drive r wi th t he opportu nity to
set the chass is characterist ics also to their individual preference.
W ith the driving modes
Comfort, Automatic an d Dynamic the dr ive r
has three chassis sett ings available, ranging from comfort to sporty.
In addit ion,
Lift p rovides a fourth mode which can be selecting fo r
dr iving over poor stretches of road =>
page 169, "Chass is controls" . The modes are set
in MM I =>
page 169.
& WARNING
The height of the parked vehicle can change due to temperature
fluctuation s or changes in load .

• Whenever you park yo ur vehicle, always make sure there is
adeq uate clearance above and below the ve hicle . T he heig ht of the
parked vehicle can change as the res ult of temperature fluctuations,
chang es in load condition and changes in the dr iv ing mode (ground
clearance).
• If the veh icle is be ing transported (e .g. by tow truck, train, ship,
etc.) , mount the tie-down cha ins/cables over the r unning s urface
(c ircumfere nce) of the tir es. Never sec ure the ve hicle by the ax le, the
suspension struts or the front or rea r tow line eye. For technical
reaso ns, the p ressure in t he suspension st ru ts m ay change dur ing the
transport, w hic h could result in the vehicle no longer being secured
pro perly.
• To prevent damage to the vehicle underbody, remember that your
veh icle is no t an off-roa d veh icle, even in the "lift" mo de. Th e ground
clearance is insufficient for this type of operation.
• If you are go ing to tow a trai ler, you mus t activate the trai ler ope r­
ation mode =>
page 170.

Before you raising your vehicle us ing the veh icle jack (for example,

Chassis controls
Four different driving modes can be set by the driver.
The automatic control processes are speed- and time-dependent. For
example, it is not possible to raise the suspension to the lift mode
above certain speeds.
Automatic
Select the automatic mode if yo u prefer suspens ion and damping
settings emphasizing comfort.
• Lowering : When a speed of about 75 mph (120 km/h) is exceeded
for more than 30 seconds, the vehicle is automatically lowered by
about 0.6 inch (15 mm) to the dynamic level which is more suitable
for highway speeds. Road holding is optimized as a result of the lower center of gravity and fuel consumption is reduced as a result of
reduced wind resistance.
• Raising: The vehicle is automatically raised aga in if the speed falls
below about 44 mph (70 km/h) for a period of 2 minutes. The veh icle
is raised immediately when speed falls be low about 22 mph (35
km/h).
Comfort
Select the comfort mode if you desire a suspension sett ing with a
special emphasis on comfort. In the standard mode there is
no
lower ing of the suspens ion. Even at high speeds, the veh icle stays at
the same level. Damp ing characteristics with a decided emphasis on
comfort are selected in this mode.
Dynamic
Select the dynam ic mode if you prefer a sporty suspension sett ing. In
this mode, the vehicle is lowered while it is still stationary and sporty
damping characteristics are selected. The warning light
c.::> in the
instrument cluster will come on for a few seconds just to remind you
of the reduced ground clearance.
Controls and equip ­
ment Safety first
If you switch off the engine while the vehicle is in the dynamic mode
and then switch on the
ignition once again, the
c.::> warning light will
also come on again for a few seconds as a reminder.
Lift
Select the lift mode when you have to travel over poor sections of
road (e.g. trails). In the lift mode, the vehicle is raised by 0.6 inch (15
mm) compared to normal level while it is still stationary and damping
characteristics are adjusted to emphasize comfort.
The lift mode can be activated only at speeds below 50 mph (80
km/h). When a speed of about 62 mph (100 km/h) is exceeded, the
system automatica lly leaves lift mode and the mode set previously
(standard, automatic, dynamic) is activated again .•

Setting the driving modes
The driving modes are set in f\1/11!.

Settings
The ignition must be switched on to set the driving modes.
- Select: Function button [CAR].
Please note that not every driving mode c an be selected in every
driving situation. For example, it is not possible to switch to "lift"

mode at speeds above SO mph (80 km/h). This mode is then shown
greyed out in the MMI display .

Jacking mode when changing a flat tire
This mode must be activated in the MMI before raising
the vehicle with a jack or on a vehicle lift.
-Select: Function button [CAR)> function button [SETUP]
> Jacking mode.
The vehicle jack mode must be activated before changing a wheel so
that the au toma tic control processes for the air suspension do not
make lifting with the vehicle jack more difficult.
[ i ] Tips
The vehicle jack mode is switched off automatica lly at speeds above 9
mph (15 km/h) .•

Towing a trailer
Automatic lowering is not desirable when towing a
trailer .
-Select: Function button [CAR)> function button [SETUP]
> Towing mode .
Level Adjustment when towing a trailer
• Before hitching up the trailer and before adjust ing the tongue
we ight at the trailer, the automatic or comfort mode
must be selected, so that the vehicle is at normal
level=>
page 169, "Setting
the driving modes".
• If driving in dynamic mode is desired, this mode
must be selected
before hitch ing up the trailer and before adjusting the tongue
weight . However, note that your vehicle is lowered and ground clear­
ance is reduced .
• If you have to drive under difficu lt road conditions, you can select
lift mode after hitching up the trailer or after adjusting the tongue
weight.
Restrictions when operating with a trailer
When operating with a trailer, the lift mode can only be selected up
to about 25 mph (40 km/h). The system automatically goes out of lift
mode when speed exceeds about 31 mph (SO km/h).
If the vehicle is in automatic, comfort or lift mode before the trailer
towing mode is act ivated, the dynam ic mode cannot be activated .
I f the vehicle is in dynamic mode before towing operation is acti­
vated, it can be driven in this mode .
If the suspens ion is switched
from this mode to automatic mode, dynamic mode cannot be re­
selected.
[ i ] Tips
If the trailer towing mode has been act ivated, the vehicle will not sink
to the dynamic level if selected .•

Homelink ®
Universal remote control
Applies to veh icles: with Hom eli nk® universal remote control
General information
The Home link ® fe atu re can le arn th e up t o th ree ra dio
frequency codes for most current transmitters used for
operating garage doors, estate gates, home or outdoor
lighting systems, and other devices.
You must fi rst program the Homel ink ® transmitter before you can
use the system=>
page 172, "Programming the Homelink ® trans­
mitter".
I n order to program the Homel ink ® transmitter for devices utiliz ing
rolling code, a second person on a ladder who can safe ly reach the
garage door opener motor is recommended. It is also necessary to
locate the "learn" button on your garage door opener motor. Refer to
the opera ting inst ructions for the opene r, as the loca tion and color of
this button may vary by manufacturer.
You can sti ll use the original remote contro l for the device at any
time.
& WARNING
• Never us e the Homelink '"' tr an smitter with any gar age door
op ene r that doe s have not the safet y stop and reve rse feature as
re quired by federal safe ty standard s. This inclu des any garage
doo r opener model manufactured before Aprill , 1982.
• A garage door opener which cannot detect an obj ect, signaling
the door to stop and reve rse doe s not meet current federal saf ety
s tandards. Using a garage door op ener without th ese featur es
increa ses risk of seriou s inju ry or death.

• For safet y reasons nev er release the park ing brake or start the
engine while anyone is standing in front of the vehicle .
• A ga rage door o r an estate gate m ay sometimes be set in
moti on when the Ho melink ® remote c ontrol is being
programmed. If the dev ice is repeatedly acti vated, this can o ver­
s train motor and damage its el ectri cal components -an over­
heat ed motor is a fire hazard!
• To av oid po ssible injurie s or propert y damage, plea se always
make absolutely certain that no persons or objects are located in
the range of m otion of any equipment being operated .

Programming the Homel ink ® transmitter
The transmitter is programmed in two phases . For rolling
code transmitters, a third phase is also necessary .

1. Make sure your vehicle is within operating range of the
remote controlled garage door opener .
2. Set the parking brake~

page 171 .
3. Turn the ignition on . Do not start the engine! 4
. Press and hold the two outside Homelink ® buttons
(D
and (@)for approximately 20 seconds until indicator l ight
@ ~ fig. 163 begins to flash . Then release both buttons .
Do not hold the buttons for longer than 30 seconds .
- This procedure only needs to be performed
once . It erases
the factory-set default codes and does not have to be repeated to program additional remote controls .
5. Press and hold the Homelink ® button
(D , @ or@ until
the indicator light © starts flashing
slowly . Release the
button .
-The system will now rema in in programming mode for 5
minutes.

Phase 2:

6 . Hold the original r emote control at a distance between 0-
6 in. (0 -15 cm) from the bumper below the appropriate
headlight for your vehicle~ fig . 164 (use the shortest
distance possible) .
7 . Aim the remote control just below the
passenger side
headlight .
8. Press and hold the activation button on the remote control.
- May be d ifferent in Canada . If so, press and re-press
(cycle) the activation button on yo ur remote control every
two seconds. .-,,

9. The emergency flashers will flash three times (after about
15-60 seconds) when the programming is successful.
Release the button on the remote control.
-To program more devices, repeat steps 4 to 9.
10. Press and hold the trained Homelink ® button and
observe the indicator light©~
page 172, fig. 163.
- If the indicator light is solid/continuous, programming is
complete and your device should activate when you press
and release the trained Homelink ® button.
- If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and is then a solid/continuous light, proceed with phase 3 to program a rolling code device.
Phase 3: rolling code programming
- A second person on a ladder who can safely reach the
garage door opener motor is recommended.
11 . Locate the "learn" button on the garage door opener
motor (refer to the operating instructions for the opener,
as the location of this button may vary by manufacturer) .
12. Press and release the learn button on the garage door
opener motor.
-Note: once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in
which to initiate the next step.
13. On the Homelink® keypad inside the vehicle, firmly press
and hold the Homelink® button previously programmed
in phases 1 and 2 for two seconds and release. Repeat this
sequence
twice .

OP-eration
-Some vehicles may require the press/hold/release
sequence up to three times to complete the training
process.
- Homelink ® should now activate your rolling code
equipped device.
If the 5 minute time limit is exceeded, the emergency flashers will
flash one time
to indicate that the process has been terminated. In
this case, repeat steps 4 through 9.
If the emergency flashers do not flash three times (after about 15 -
60 seconds), programming was not successful. In this case, repeat
steps 4 through 9.
Remote control units for garage door openers in Canada are set to
stop transmitt ing radio frequency signals after two seconds. This
time may not be sufficient for the Home link® system to learn the
radio frequency signal. Perform all other steps as described above.•

Operating the Homelink ® transmitter
The HomeLink ® transmitter works in the same manner as
the original hand held remote control that came with the
system.

Reprogramming a single button
A Homelink ® button can be reprogrammed individually
without affecting the other button allocations.
Programming the ov erh ead keypad
- Press the appropriate Homelink ® button until the indi-
cator light begins flashing slowly .
Programming the bumper mounted transmit
ter
1. Hold the original remote control at a distance between 0 -
5 in . (0-13 cm) from the bumper below the appropriate
headlight for your vehicle (use the shortest distance
possible).
2. Aim the remote control just below the
pas senger side
headlight .
3 . Press and hold the ac tivation button on the remote
control.
4 . The emergency flashers will flash
three times (after about
15 -60 seconds) when the programm ing is successful.
N ow release the b utton on the remote control.
- If the device utilizes a rolling code , please follow phase 3
of =>
page 172 , "Programming the Homelink ® trans­
mitter" for rolling code programming.

Erasing the programming of the
Homelink ® tr ansmitter
When you erase the programming, the programming on
all three of the transmitter channels with be lost!
- Perform steps 1 to 4 as described on::::> page 172, "Phase
1 : programming the overhead keypad".
When completed , the Homel ink ® system will be in the programm ing
mode and is then ready to learn the codes for remote controlled
devices .
[I) Tips
• Programmed buttons cannot be erased individually.
• For security reasons you are advised to erase the programming of
the Homelink ® system before you sell your veh icle .•
