• Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect mounting of an
appro ved ro of rack can cause the roof ra ck or the i tems attached
to it to fall off the roof onto the road .

• After mounting a roof rack system, or when yo u transport objects

the vehicle itself. •

The maxim um permiss ible roof we ight is 220 lb (100 kg). T he roof
we ight is mad e up of the wei ght of th e ro of ra ck sy stem and the
we ight of the ob ject b eing trans ported .
Wh en usin g a roof rack system whic h has a lower load carry ing
capac it y, you mus t not use up the t otal ma ximum permi ssible load
carrying ca pac ity spe cified above. Instead, you s hould lo ad t he roof
r ack s yst em o nly to t he ma ximum c apacity speci fied by the man ufa c­
turer of the roof rack system.
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to secure items to the
roof rack can fail during hard braking or in a collision and cause
serious personal injury.
• Make
sure the roof rack is installed exactly as specified above
=> page 88.
• Always use suitable mounting straps for securing items to the
roof rack to help prevent items from shifting or flying forward.
• Items on the roof rack must always be securely mounted.
• The use of a roof rack can negatively affect the way a vehicle
handles . Cargo that is large, heavy, bulky , long or flat will have a
greater negative influence on the vehicle's aerodynamics , center
of gravity and overall handling. Always drive slowly, avoid sudden
braking and maneuvers when transporting cargo on the roof of
your vehicle.
• Never exceed the maximum permissible load carrying capacity
of the roof of your vehicle, the permissible axle weights and the
permissible total weight of your vehicle=>

• The coat hooks must only be used for lightweight clothing. Do
not leave any heavy or sharp edged objects in the pockets which
may interfere with the side curtain airbag deployment and can
cause personal injury in a crash.
• Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks
as this can interfere with proper deployment of the side curtain
airbags in an accident.
• Do not hang heavy objects on the coat hooks, as they could
cause personal injury in a sudden stop. •

example, that the seat * or rear w indow heating is not heating, they
have been temporari ly cut back or switch ed off by
energy manage·

These systems are available again as soon as the energy

• For safe driving it i s very important that all window s be free of
ice, snow and condensation.
• Completely familiarize yourself with the proper use and func­
tion of the heating and ventilation system and especially how to
defog and defrost the windows.
• Never use the windshield w iper/washer system in freezing
weather until you ha ve warmed the wind shield first , using the
heating and ventilation system . The washer solut ion may freeze
on the wind shield and reduce vi sibility.

snow and debris in orde r to maintai n the proper function of the

• Th e air flowing out of the vents and throughout the vehicle's
e n tire in ter ior is discharged a t th e rea r of t he vehicle. Make sure that
the o utlet s lots are not covered by cloth ing, etc .
• Climate cont rol works most effectively i f the w indows and the
sunroof * are closed . However, if the interior of a par ke d vehicle is
extremely hot from t he sun's rays, briefly opening the wi ndows can
speed up t he cooling process .•

T he ai r outlets are actuated either automatically or manually
depending on the operating mode selected.

• When climate control is working, cooled air will flow primarily
from out lets @ and @. To assure adequate cooling, outlets @ and
© should never be completely closed.
• T he air flow coming from the vents © can be adjusted to be colder
or warmer than the selected set temperature. •

- Rotate the thumb wheel located next to the outlet to open
or close it.
- To adjust the direction of the airflow from the outlet, move the tab in the center of the outlet in the desired
direction . T he direction of the air delivered from the vents
can be adjusted horizontally and vertically.
Outlets in the door pillars
- Rotate the thumb wheel located next to the outlet to open
or close it .
- To adjust the direction of the airflow from the outlet,
mov e the tab in the center of the o utlet in the desired
direction. The direction of the air delivered from the vents
can be adjusted horizontally and vertically.
The air outlets are actuated either automatically or manually

fresh air, or cooled air flows from the vents.
T he air outlets to heat the rear footwell are located under the front
seats.
[I] Tips
If the climate control sys tem is operating in cooling mode, air flows
primarily from the outlets in the center console and in the door
pillars. To ach ieve adequate cooling, you sho uld never close the
outlets completely. •
Using climate control economically
Using the climate controls prudently can help save fuel.
When you use the air conditioner, engine power is reduced
and fuel consumption increases . To save fuel, you should use
the air conditioner only when necessary . Also please note the
following points:
To save fuel, turn off cooling mode by pressing the
[AC)
butto n (indicator ligh t goes out).
- In addit ion, if you open the window or the sunroof* while
driving, turn
off cooling mode by pressing the [AC] button
(indicator light goes out).
If the vehicle is extremely hot due to the heat of the sun,
briefly ope n doors and windows.

By reducing the amount of fue l you use, you also reduce the amount
of pollutants emitted into the air.•

Improperly stored luggage or other items can fly through th e
vehicle c au sing seriou s per sonal injury in the event of hard braking
or an accident . To h elp reduce the risk of serious personal injury :
• Always put objects, for examp le, luggage or other heavy items
in the luggag e compartment .
• Alway s secure objects in the luggage compartment using the
tie -down eyelets and suitable straps.
& WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehicle handles. To help
reduce the ri sk of a loss of control leading to seriou s personal
injury:
• Always keep in mind when tran sporting heavy objects, that a
c hange in the center of gr avity can also cause changes in vehicle
handling:
-Always di stribute the load as evenly as po ssible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the luggage compart-
ment as po ssible.
• Never e xceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating or the Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating specified on the safety compliance sticker on the
left door jamb . Exceeding permissible weight standards can cause
the vehicle to slide and handle differently .
• Please observe information on safe driving =>
page 176 .

To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from being drawn into the
vehicle, always keep the rear lid closed while driving.
• Never transport objects larger than those fitting completely
into the luggage area because the rear lid cannot be fully closed.

• If you absolutely must drive with the rear lid open , ob serve the
following note s to reduce the risk of poisoning:
- Close all windows ,
- Close the power roof*,
- Open all air outlet s in the instrument panel,
- Switch off the air recirculation ,
- Set th e fresh air fan to the high est speed .

Always make sure that the doo rs , all windows, the power roof*
and the rear lid are securely clo sed and locked to reduce the risk of
i njury when the vehicle is not be ing used.
• After closing the rear lid, always make sure that it is properly
closed and locked.
• Never leave your vehicle unattended especially with the rear lid
left open. A child could c rawl into the vehicle through the luggage
c ompartment and clo se the rear lid becoming trapped and unable
to get out . Being trapped in a vehicle can lead to serious personal
injury.
• Never let children play in or around the vehicle.
• Never l et pa ssengers ride in the luggage compartment. Vehicle
occupants must always be properly restrained in one of the
vehicle 's seating positions .

• Air circulation helps to re d uce win dow fogging. Sta le air es capes
to the outside through vents in the trim panel, on the left s ide of the
lugg age compa rtmen t. B e sur e to keep these s lots free and ope n.
• Th e tire pressure m ust correspond to the load . The tire pressure is
shown o n the tir e pressu re label. The tire pressu re label is loc ated o n .,_

defined in the electronic control unit~ page 209, "PASSENGER AIR
BAG O FF light ".
Always remember, a child safety seat or infant carr ier installed on the
front seat may be struck and knocked out of position by the rapidly
inflating passenger's airbag in a frontal collision. Th e airbag could
greatly reduce the effectiveness of the child restraint and even seri­
ously injure the child during inf lation .
For this reason, and because the back seat is the safest place for chil­
dren -whe n proper ly restrained accord ing to their age and size -we
st rong ly recommend that children always sit in the back seat
~ page 219, "Child Safety".
& WARNING
A child in a rearward -facing child safety seat installed on the front
passenger seat will be seriously injured and can be killed if the
front airbag inflates - even with an Advanced Airbag System.
• The inflating airbag will hit the child safety seat or infant
carrier with great force and will smash the child safety seat and
child against the backrest, center armrest, door or roof .
• Always install rear-facing child safety seats on the rear seat.
• If you must install a rearward facing child safety seat on the
front passenger seat because of exceptional circumstances and
the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay on,
immediately install the rear-facing child safety seat in a rear
seating position and have the airbag system inspected by your
Audi dealer.
• Forward-facing child safety seats installed on the front
passenger's seat may interfere with the deployment of the airbag
and cause serious personal injury to the child.
& WARNING
If, in exceptional circumstances , you must install a forward-facing
child restraint on the front passenger's seat:

• Always make sure the forward-facing seat has been designed
and certified by its manufacturer for use on a front seat with a
passenger front and side airbag.
• Never put the forward-facing child restraint up against or very
near the instrument panel.
• Always move the passenger seat into its rearmost position in
the seat's fore and aft adjustment range, as far away from the
airbag as possible before installing the forward-facing child
restraint. The backrest must be adjusted to an upright position.
• Make sure that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
and stays on all the time whenever the ignition is switched on.
& WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury, make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will be displayed whenever a child
restraint is installed on the front passenger seat and the ignition
is switched on .
• If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not stay on, perform
the checks described
~ page 208 , "Monitoring the Advanced
Airbag System ".
• Take the child restraint off the front passenger seat and install
it properly at one of the rear seat positions if the PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF light does not stay on.
• Have the airbag system inspected by your Audi dealer immedi­
ately.
• Always carefully follow instructions from child restraint manu­
facturers when installing child restraints.
& WARNING
If, in exceptional circumstances , you must install a forward or
rearward-facing child restraint on the front passenger 's seat:
