Defective ignition switch Get it serviced!
-Do not turn the engine off.
- Drive immed iately to an authorized service facility to have
the malfunction corrected.
If there is a malfunction in the electron ic ignition lock, the ignition
cannot be turned off . Drive immediately to an authorized service
facility to have the cause of the malfunction corrected.
On vehicles w ith convenience key *, the e ng ine should not be switched
off using the start/stop button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignit ion has been switched off.

Driver information display
When a yellow warning symbol appears, one warning tone sounds. A
dr iver message appears as well to expla in the malfunction in more
detail. The driver warn ing goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can
be brought up at any time by pressing the
! SET] button again.
Check the function displayed as soon as possible . The yellow symbol
will not go out again until the reason for the malfunction has been
corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the symbols appear in
succession and remain for about 2 seconds.

If the symbo l illumina tes, the ligh t senso r has fa iled. For s afe ty
reasons the low beams are turned on permanently with the sw itch in
AUTO . However, you can continue to t urn the lights on and off usi ng
the light sw itch . In the case of a defect in the ra in sensor, the wi nd­
shield wiper lever functions are still avai lab le . Have the light/rain
senso r chec ked as soo n as poss ible by an a utho riz ed Aud i dea le r.•

Defective Light bulb warning t
Th e def ective light bul b warning monitors the function of
the li ght bulbs in the vehicle.
Th e defe ct ive light bulb war ning moni tor s the functio n of the lig ht
bulbs. If a de fective light bu lb is detected, or if a light bu lb has
bur ned out, a ye llow symbol appears as well as a n otifi cat io n that
shows w hich light bu lb is defective.

~ If this symbol lights up, a t urn signa l (front or rear), a headlamp, a
br ak e light, t he b ack- up ligh t, a fog lamp o r a rear f og l am p has
fai led.
& WARNING
• Light bulbs are under pressure and can explode when bulbs are
replaced -risk of injury .
• With gas-discharge lamps* (xenon headlights ), the high­
voltage component must be handled appropriately . Doing other­
wise poses a risk of death!

When a battery is charged, it produces hydrogen
gas which is explosive and could cause personal injury .
Always keep the battery well out of reach of chil- _,.

& WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on the electrical system,
there is the risk of injury, accident and even fire. Read and heed
the following WARNINGS:
• Always wear eye protection. Do not let battery acid or any l~ad
particles get on your skin or clothing. Shield your eyes . Explosive
gases can cause blindness or other injury.
• Battery acid contains sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid can cause
blindness and severe burns.
-Always wear gloves and eye protection. Do not tilt the
battery because acid could leak out of the ventilation open­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in your eyes or on your skin, immedi·
ately rinse with cold water for several minutes and get medical
attention.
- If you should ingest any battery acid, seek medical attention
immediately.
• Do not expose the battery to an open flame, electric sparks or
an open light. • Do not smoke.
• Do not interchange the positive and negative cables.

• When working on the battery , be sure not to short-circuit the
terminals with tools or other metal objects. This would cause the battery to heat up very quickly, which could lead to damage or
explosion and personal injury.
• When a battery is charged , it produces hydrogen gas which is
explosive and could cause personal injury.
• Always keep the battery well out of the reach of children.
• Before work is done on the electrical system, disconnect the
negative ground cable.
• Before performing any work on the electrical system, switch
off the engine and ignition as well as any electrical equipment.
The negative cable on the battery must be disconnected. If you are
just going to replace a light bulb, then it is enough to switch off
the lights.
• Before disconnecting the battery, switch off the anti-theft
alarm system! Otherwise you will set
off the alarm.
• When disconnecting the battery, first disconnect the negative
cable and then the positive cable.
• Before reconnecting the battery, make sure all electrical
consumers are switched off. Reconnect the positive cable first and
then the negative cable. Never interchange the cables· this could start a fire!
• Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out battery. It could
explode! If a battery has frozen , then it must be replaced. A
discharged battery can freeze over at 32°F (0°C).
• Make sure the vent hose is always attached to the opening on
the side of the battery .
• Never use batteries which are damaged . There is the danger of
an explosion! Always replace a damaged battery. _,.

What do I do now?
Trunk escape handle
In case of an emergency, the rear lid can be opened from
the inside using the trunk escape handle.

- Pull the hand le down towards the bumper~ fig. 234.
The trunk escape handle inside the rear lid is made of fl uorescent
m aterial to glow in the dark.
& WARNING
The trunk e scape handle is to be u sed only in an emergency.

T he emerge ncy re lease lever should never be used as a handle for
closing the rear lid. •

The fuses are located at the front left and right of the cockp it
and behind the trim on the righ t side of the luggage compart­
ment .
- Turn off the ignition and the affected electrical
consumers.
- Check the following table to see which fuse belongs to the
consumer.
- Remove the appropriate cover.
- To remove the purple plastic clip if necessary

- Remove the clamp from the rear side of the fuse cover
=> fig. 244.
-Remove the fuse using the clamp and replace the blown
fuse with an identical new one .

Do not re pair fu se s a nd neve r replace a blo wn fuse with one t hat
ha s a hig her amp rating . Th is c an ca use d am ag e to t he elec tric a l
sys tem and a fire.

If a n ew fus e burns out again after shortly have you hav e installed it,
have the electrica l system checked by your authorized Audi dealer.

F or your safety, we recomm end that you have your autho ­
riz ed Audi dealer replace any bulbs for you .
It is becoming increasing ly mo re and more d ifficult to replace vehicle
light bulbs since in many cases, other parts of the car must f irst be
removed before yo u are ab le to get to the bu lb. This app lies especially
to the light bulbs in the front of your car which you can only reac h
t hrough the eng ine comp artment.
Sheet metal and bu lb holders can have sharp edges that can cause
serious c uts, parts must be correctly taken apart and then properly
put back together to he lp prevent breakage of parts and long term
damage from water t hat can enter housings that have not been prop­
erly resea led.
For your safety, we recommend that you have your authorized Audi
dealer replace a ny bu lbs for yo u, since yo ur dealer has the proper
too ls, t he cor rect bu lbs and the expertise.
Gas discharge lamps (Xenon lights)*:
•
Due to the high electrical voltage, have the bulbs replaced by a qua l­
ified techn ici an . Hea dligh ts w ith Xenon light are i dent ified by t he
hig h voltage sticker.
& WARNING
Changing Xenon lamps without the necessa ry equipment can
c aus e seriou s personal injury.
• Bulbs are pressurized and can e xplode when being changed.
Potential risk of injury!
• On veh icle s equipped with gas discharge bulbs (Xenon light)*
life-threatening injuries can result from improper handling of the
high- voltage portions of such lamps!
• Only your authorized Audi dealer or a qualified workshop
should change the bulbs in gas discharge lamps. There are parts
with sharp edges on th e openings and on the bulb holder s that can
cause serious cuts. If you are uncertain about what to do , have the
work performed by an authorized Audi dealer or other qualified
workshop . Serious personal injury m ay result from improperly
performed work.
