PERIODIC CHECKS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys, check and top up the fol-
lowing if necessary:
❍engine coolant level, brake fluid and windscreen washer fluid
❍tyre pressure and condition;
❍operation of lights (headlights, direction indicators, hazard
lights, etc.);
❍operation of the windscreen wiper/washer system, position
and wear of windscreen/rearscreen wiper blades;
Every 3,000 km check the following and top-up, if necessary: en-
gine oil level.
We recommend the use of PETRONAS LUBRICANTS products, de-
signed and produced specifically for Alfa Romeo cars (see “Con-
sumables” table in chapter 6).
DEMANDING USE OF THE CAR
If you use the vehicle mainly under one of the following conditions:
❍trailer or caravan towing;
❍dusty roads;
❍repeated short distances (less than 7-8 km) and with exter-
nal temperatures below zero;
❍frequently idling the engine, travelling long distances at low
speeds or long term inactivity;
❍in cities;
perform the following inspections more frequently than shown on
the Scheduled Servicing Plan:
❍check front disc brake pad condition and wear;
❍check cleanliness of bonnet and boot locks, and cleanliness and
lubrication of linkages;
❍visually inspect the condition of: engine, gearbox, transmission,
pipes and hoses (exhaust – fuel supply - brakes) rubber ele-
ments (gaiters – hoses - bushes etc.);

WHEELS AND TYRES
Before embarking on a long trip check the tyre inflation pressure
(and small spare wheel); check the pressure with the tyres cold.
Incorrect pressure causes abnormal tyre wear fig. 7:
A normal pressure: evenly worn tread.
B low pressure: tread particularly worn on the edges.
C excessive pressure: tread particularly worn in the middle.
The tyres must be replaced when the tread is less than 1.6 mm
thick.IMPORTANT NOTES
Take the following precautions to prevent damage to the tyres:❍avoid braking suddenly, racing starts and violent knocks against
the curb, potholes or other obstacles and driving for extended
periods on unsurfaced roads;
❍check the tyres regularly for cuts on the sides, swelling or ir-
regular tread wear;
❍avoid travelling with the vehicle overloaded. If you puncture a
tyre, stop immediately and replace it;
❍have the tyres checked by specialised personnel if they have
been fitted for longer than 6 years. Remember to check the
spare wheel very carefully;
❍change the position of the tyres every 10-15 thousand kilo-
metres, keeping them on the same side of the vehicle to avoid
inverting the direction of rotation.

ABC
Remember that the road holding qualities of your
car also depend on the correct inflation pressure
of the tyres.
220CARE AND MAINTENANCE
WINDSCREEN/REARSCREEN WIPERS
Avoid changing over the tyres from the right side
of the vehicle to the left side and vice versa.
Do not repaint alloy wheel rims at temperatures
higher than 150°C. The mechanical characteristics
of the wheels might be disrupted.
Driving with worn wiper blades is a serious haz-
ard, because visibility is reduced in bad weather.
BLADES
We recommend replacing the blades once a year.
A few simple precautions can reduce the possibility of damage to
the blades:
❍make sure that the rubber part does not stick to the windscreen
at sub-zero temperatures. Use an antifreeze product to release
it if required;
❍remove any snow from the window;
❍do not activate the windscreen/rearscreen wiper on a dry win-
dow.
If the pressure is too low the tyre will get over-
heated, with the risk of serious damage to the tyre.
Maximum speed rating
Q = up to 160 km/h. H = up to 210 km/h.
R = up to 170 km/h. V = up to 240 km/h.
S = up to 180 km/h. W = up to 270 km/h.
T = up to 190 km/h. Y = up to 300 km/h.
U = up to 200 km/h.
Maximum speed rating
for snow tyres
QM + S = up to 160 km/h.
TM + S = up to 190 km/h.
HM + S = up to 210 km/h.
READING RIM MARKINGS fig. 4
Example: 6J x 15 H2 ET 31.5
6 = rim width in inches (1).
J = rim drop centre outline (side projection where the tyre bead
rests) (2).
15 = rim nominal diameter in inches (corresponds to diameter
of the tyre to be mounted) (3 = Ø).
H2 = shape and number of the humps (tags around the circum-
ference that hold the bead of the Tubeless tyre in place on
the rim).
ET 31.5 = wheel camber angle (distance between the disc/rim
supporting plane and the wheel rim centre line).

TECHNICAL DATA237
fig. 5A0J0166m
If after-sale tyres with rim protector are used (fig.
5) and the car has integral cups fixed (by springs)
to the sheet wheel, DO NOT fit wheel cups. The use
of unsuitable tyres and wheel cups could cause a sudden
pressure loss of the tyre.

COLD TYRE INFLATION PRESSURES (bar)
() For versions/market, where provided
(*) 1.3 JTD
M-2versions (**) 1.6 JTDMversions
Add +0.3 bar to the prescribed inflation pressure when the tyres are warm. Recheck pressure value with cold tyres.
With snow tyres, add +0.2 bar to the inflation pressure value prescribed for standard tyres.
When running at speeds of higher than 160 km/h, inflate tyres at full load inflation values.
