Front differential gear oil
Checking the front differential gear oil level
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Loosen the front differential gear oil level
check bolt until oil flows out.
3. If no oil flows out, remove the front differential
gear oil filler bolt, and add the recommended
type of oil in the oil filler hole until it flows out
of the oil level check bolt hole. NOTICE: Be
sure no foreign material enters the front
differential gear case.
4. Tighten the oil level check bolt to the speci-
fied torque.
Tightening torque:
Front differential gear oil level check bolt:
10 Nm (1.0 m·kgf, 7.2 ft·lbf)

Changing the front differential gear oil
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Place a container under the front differential
gear case to collect the used oil.
3. Remove the oil filler bolt and front differential
gear oil drain bolt to drain the oil.
4. Reinstall the drain bolt, and tighten it to the
specified torque. Tightening torque:
Front differential gear oil filler bolt:
23 Nm (2.3 m·kgf, 17 ft·lbf)

5. Refill with the specified amount of the recom-
mended front differential gear oil. NOTICE:
Be sure no foreign material enters the
front differential gear case.
6. Reinstall the oil filler bolt, and then tighten it to
the specified torque.
7. Check for oil leakage. If oil leakage is found,
check for the cause. Recommended oil:
SAE 80 API GL-4 Hypoid gear oil
Oil quantity:
0.30 L (0.32 US qt, 0.26 Imp.qt)

Rear differential gear oil
Checking the rear differential gear oil level
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Remove the rear differential gear oil filler bolt,
and then check the oil level in the rear differ-
ential gear case. The oil level should be at the
brim of the filler hole.
3. If the oil is below the brim of the filler hole,
add sufficient oil of the recommended type to
raise it to the correct level. NOTICE: Be sure
no foreign material enters the rear differ-
ential gear case.
4. Reinstall the oil filler bolt, and then tighten it to
the specified torque.

6. Wash the sponge material gently but thor-
oughly in parts cleaning solvent. WARNING!
Using gasoline or other flammable sol-
vents to clean the air filter element can
cause a fire or explosion, which could
lead to serious injury.
7. Squeeze the excess solvent out of the
sponge material. NOTICE: Do not twist the
sponge material when squeezing it.
8. Wash the sponge material in warm soapy
water to remove remaining solvent, then
rinse thoroughly with plain warm water.
9. Squeeze excess water out of the sponge ma-
terial. NOTICE: Do not twist the sponge
material when squeezing it.
10. Allow the sponge material to dry thoroughly.
Inspect the sponge material and replace it if
damaged.
11. Thoroughly apply Yamaha foam air filter oil or
other quality liquid foam air filter oil (not spray
type) to the sponge material. The sponge
material should be wet but not dripping.

Refill with the same type of brake fluid. Mixing
fluids may result in a harmful chemical reaction
and lead to poor braking performance.
Be careful that water does not enter the brake
fluid reservoir when refilling. Water will signifi-
cantly lower the boiling point of the fluid and
may result in vapor lock.
Brake fluid may deteriorate painted surfaces or
plastic parts. Always clean up spilled fluid im-
mediately.
Have a Yamaha dealer inspect the brake sys-
tem if the brake fluid level goes down.
