*1: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is
not fully closed (with the vehicle hav
ing reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]).
*2: Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder buzzer:
The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belts reminder sounds to alert the
driver and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The
buzzer sounds intermittently for 10 seconds after the vehicle has reached a
speed of at lest 12 mph (20 km/h). Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened,
the buzzer will sound in a different tone for 20 more seconds.
■If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
First check whether the fuel tank cap is loose. If it is, tighten it securely.
The light will go off after taking several driving trips. 
If the light does not go off even after several trips, contact your Toyota dealer
as soon as possible.
■ Electric power steering warning light
When the voltage is low or drops, the electric power steering warning light
may come on.

If the hybrid system will not start
If the hybrid system still does not start after following the correct
starting procedure (
P. 164), confirm the following points.
■ The hybrid system will not start even if you are carrying the
correct key.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank. 
Refuel the vehicle.
● The electronic key battery may be discharged. ( P. 541)
● The hybrid system may be malfunct ioning due to an electrical
problem such as an open circuit or a blown fuse. However,
depending on the type of malfunc tion, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( P. 539)
● There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system. 
( P. 108)
■ The interior lights and headlight s are dim, or the horn does
not sound or sounds at a low volume.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● The 12 volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 543)
● The 12 volt battery terminal c onnections may be loose or cor-
roded.

Fuel infor mation
■Fuel tank opening fo r unleaded gasoline
To help prevent incorrect fueling, your Toyota has a fuel tank opening that
only accommodates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.
■ If your engine knocks
● Consult your Toyota dealer.
● You may occasionally notice light knocking for a short time while acceler-
ating or driving uphill. This is normal and there is no need for concern.
■ Gasoline quality
In very few cases, driveability problems may be caused by the brand of gas-
oline you are using. If driveability problems persist, try changing the brand of
gasoline. If this does not correct the problem, consult your Toyota dealer.
Your vehicle must use only unleaded gasoline. 
Select octane rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. Use
of unleaded gasoline with an octane rating lower than 87 may result
in engine knocking. Persistent kno cking can lead to engine damage.
At minimum, the gasoline you use should meet the specifications
of ASTM D4814 in the U.S.A. and CGSB3.5-M93 in Canada.
