Engine revolutions counterThe red zone in the revolutions counter fig. 15 indicates the maximum permis-
sible engine speed for all gears for an engine which has been run in and operating at a
normal temperature. Before reaching the re d zone of the rev counter scale, shift up
into the next higher gear. The engine control unit restricts the engine speed to a steady
limit value.

Digital clockYou can set the time with the rotary knob page 15, fig. 15.
Select the information which you wish to change by turning the button and carry
out the change of the selected information by pressing the button.
WARNING
The clock should not be adjusted while dr iving for safety reasons but only when
the vehicle is stationary!Recommended gear*An information for the selected gear fig. 17 is shown in the display of the instru-
ment cluster.
In order to minimise the fuel consumptio n, a recommendation for shifting into
another gear is indicated in the display.
If the control unit recognises that it is a ppropriate to change the gear, an arrow is
shown in the display. The arrow points upwards or downwards depending on whether
it is recommended to switch to a higher or lower gear.
At the same time, the recommended gear is indicated instead of the currently selected
gear .
Multi-functional indica tor (onboard computer)*IntroductionThis data from the multi-functional indicator appears in the display fig. 18 .
The multi-functional indicator offers you a range of useful information.

desired position.
– Adjust the driver seat page 11.
– Pull the lever below the steering column down fig. 83 - left. Observe the guide-
lines .
– Set the steering wheel to the desired position (concerning height and forward/back position).
– Push the lever upwards as far as the stop.
WARNING
You must not adjust the steering wheel when the vehicle is moving!
The driver must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the steering wheel
fig. 83 - right. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that the
airbag system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
For safety reasons the lever must always be firmly pushed up to avoid the
steering wheel altering its po sition unintentionally when driving - risk of acci-
dent!
If you adjust the steering wheel furthe r towards the head, you will reduce
the protection offered by the driver airbag in the event of an accident. Make
sure the steering wheel is aligned to the chest.
When driving, hold the steering wheel with both hands firmly on the outer
edge in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock po sition. Never hold the steering wheel
firmly in the 12 o'clock position or in another way (e.g. in the middle of the
steering wheel or at the inne r steering wheel edge). In such cases, injuries to the
arms, the hands and the head can occur when the driver airbag is deployed.

The seat backrests must not be angled too far back when driving otherwise
this will affect proper operation of the se at belts and of the airbag system - risk
of injury!
Ensure that there are no objects in the footwell as any objects may get
behind the pedals during a driving or braking manoeuvre. You would then no
longer be able to operate the clutch, to brake or accelerate.
Correct seated position for the front passenger
The fro n t p assen ger must mai n tai n a d i stan ce of a t l ea st 25 c m from th e
dash panel so that the airbag offers him the greatest possible safety it is
deployed.For the safety of the front passenger and to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an
accident, we recommend the following setting:
Adjust the front passenger seat as far as possible to the rear.
Adjust the head restraint so that the top edge of the head restraint is at the same
level as the upper part of your head page 86, fig. 89 - right.
Fasten the seat belt correctly page 91, “How are seat belts correctly fastened?”.
In exceptional cases the front pass enger airbag can be deactivated page 101,
“Deactivating an airbag”.

WARNING
The front seats and the head restraints must always be adjusted to match
the body size of the seat occupant as well as the seat belts must always be
correctly fastened in order to provide an optimal protection for you and your
occupants.
The front passenger must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the dash
panel. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that the airbag
system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
Keep your feet in the footwell at all times while driving. Never place your
feet on the dash panel, out of the window or on the seats. You will be exposed
to increased risk of injury if it becomes necessary to apply the brake or in the
event of an accident. If an airbag is de ployed, you may suffer fatal injuries when
adopting an incorrect seated position!
The seat backrests must not be angled too far back when driving otherwise
this will affect proper operation of the se at belts and of the airbag system - risk
of injury!
Correct seated position for the occupants on the rear seats
Occupants on the rear seats must sit upright, keep the feet in the foot-
well and must have their se at belts correctly fastened.To reduce the risk of injury in the event of a sudden braking manoeuvre or an accident,
the occupants on the rear seats must observe the following:
Adjust the head restraints so that the top edge of the head restraints is at the same
level as the upper part of your head page 86, fig. 89 - on the right.
Fasten the seat belt correctly page 91, “How are seat belts correctly fastened?”.
If you are transporting page 103, “Transporting children safely” children in the
vehicle, please use a suitable child restraint system.
WARNING
The head restraints must always be adjusted to match the body size, in order
to offer an optimal protection for you and your occupants.

– Unscrew the fuel filler cap anti-clockwise and place the fuel filler cap from above
on the fuel filler flap page 137, fig. 119 - right.Closing fuel filler cap– Screw on the fuel filler cap by turning it to the right until it is heard to click.
– Lock the fuel filler cap on the fuel filler tube by turning the vehicle key to the right
and withdraw the key.
– Close the fuel filler flap until it locks.
The correct grade of fuel for your vehicle as well as the tyre size and inflation pressures
are stated on a sticker affixed to the inside of the fuel filler flap. Further information on
fuel page 136.
The fuel tank has a capa city of about 55 litres.
WARNING
Pay attention to any legal requirements if you do carry a spare canister in the
vehicle. We do not recommend carrying any fuel canisters in your vehicle for
safety reasons. The canister can be damaged in the event of an accident and fuel
may leak out.
Caution
Remove any fuel which has spilled onto th e paintwork of your vehicle immediately
- risk of paint damage!
Vehicles fitted with catalytic converter should never be allowed to let the fuel tank
to run completely empty. An irregular supply of fuel to the engine can result in misfiring
and unburnt fuel may get into the exhaust sy stem, which may result in overheating and
damage to the catalytic converter.
Make sure that the valve is not pressed into the filler tube when inserting the pump
nozzle into the filler tube. Otherwise you are unintentiona lly filling up the volume,
which in case of heat can cause an expansion of the fuel. This can lead to an overflow
of fuel or damage to parts of the fuel reservoir.
The fuel tank is full just as soon as th e pump nozzle switches off for the first time,
provided the nozzle has been operated prop erly. Do not continue refuelling - other-
wise the expansion volume is filled up.
