When the air conditioning is being used regularly, the compressor drive belt tension should be checked at least once a month.To check the drive belt tension, press down on the belt halfway between the engine crankshaft and compressorpulleys. Pressing with your finger, you should not be able to deflect this belt anymore than 8.0 mm (1.1L: 5~ 5.5mm). If you have the instruments to check it with a force of 98N (22 lb.), the deflection should be approx. 8.0 mm(0.315 in.). If the belt is too loose, have it adjusted by your Hyundai dealer. HTB219

WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature andmay sometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use ex- treme caution when working nearthe blades of the coolant fan, so that you are not injured by a rotat- ing fan blade. As the engine cool-ant temperature decreases the fan will automatically shut off. This is a normal condition.

Keep batteries out of the reach of children becausebatteries contain highly cor- rosive SULFURIC ACID. Do not allow battery acid to con-tact your skin, eyes, cloth- ing or paint finish. If any electrolyte gets intoyour eyes, flush your eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and get immedi-ate medical attention. If pos- sible, continue to apply water with a sponge or clothuntil medical attention is re- ceived. If electrolyte gets on yourskin, thoroughly wash the contacted area. If you feel a pain or a burn-ing sensation, get medical attention immediately. Wear eye protection whencharging or working near a battery. Always provide ventilationwhen working in an en- closed space.An inappropriately disposed battery can be harmful to the environment and humanhealth. Dispose the battery according to your local law(s) or regulation.
o When lifting a plastic-cased bat- tery, excessive pressure on thecase may cause battery acid toleak, resulting in personal injury. Lift with a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
o Never attempt to charge the bat- tery when the battery cables areconnected.
o The electrical ignition system works with high voltage.Never touch these componentswith the engine running or the ignition switched on.

NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steering pump may be heard imme- diately after the engine is started inextremely cold conditions (below - 20°C). If the noise stops during warm up, there is no abnormal function inthe system. It is due to a power steering fluid characteristic in ex- tremely cold conditions. Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.G230A03A-GAT POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL The power steering fluid level should be checked regularly.To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", then check to make certain that the powersteering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings on the fluid reservoir. The power steering hoses should be re- placed if there is severe surface crack-ing, scuffing or worn spots. Deteriora- tion of the hose could cause prema- ture failure.
G300A03TB-GAT REMOVAL OF WATER FROM THE FUEL FILTER(DIESEL ENGINE) If the fuel filter warning light illuminates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter. NOTE: It is recommended that water accu- mulated in the fuel filter should be removed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away anywater drained out in this manner,because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and result in a fire.

Extracting air in the fuel filter If you drove until you have no fuel left or if you replaced the fuel filter, be sure to extract air in the fuel system as itmakes you difficult to start the engine.
1) Remove the air extract nozzle cap on the fuel filter.
2) Pump up and down until the fuel flows out of the plug opening.
NOTE: Use cloths when you extract air so that the fuel is not sprayed around. Clean the fuel around the fuel filter orthe injection pump before starting the engine to prevent fire. Finally, check each part if the fuel is leaking.

If the vehicle has had front body repair and the headlight assembly has been replaced, the headlight aiming should be checked using the aiming screen asshown in the illustration. Turn on the headlight switch. (Low Beam Position)
1. Adjust headlights so that main axis
of light is parallel to center line of the body and is aligned with point "P"shown in the illustration.

center of each headlight beam pat-tern) and the horizontal line (throughthe center of each headlight beam pattern) on the aiming screen. And then, draw the horizontal paral- lel line at 30 mm (1.18 in.) under the horizontal line.
7. Adjust each cut-off line of the low beam to the parallel line with a phillipsscrewdriver - VERTICAL AIMING.

1. Keep all tires inflated to the correct
pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground and press the front bumper and rear bumper down several times. Place the vehicle at a distance of 3,000mm (118 in.) from the test wall.
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded
(except for full levels of coolant,engine oil and fuel, and spare tire, jack, and tools).
4. Clean the head lights lens and turn on the headlight (low beam).
