THE FIAT CODE SYSTEM
This is an electrical engine locking system which increases
protection against an attempted theft of the car. It is auto-
matically activated when the ignition key is extracted.
Each key contains an electronic device which modulates
the signal emitted during ignition by an antenna built into
the ignition device. This signal is the ‘password’ which
changes at each ignition and which the control unit uses
to recognise the key and enable ignition.
OPERATION
Each time the vehicle is started by turning the ignition key
to MAR, the Fiat CODE system control unit sends a recog-
nition code to the engine control unit to deactivate the
immobiliser.
The code is sent only if the Fiat CODE system control unit
has recognised the code transmitted from the key.
Each time the ignition key is turned to STOP, the Fiat
CODE system deactivates the functions of the engine con-
trol unit.
If the code is not recognised correctly during ignition, the
Ywarning light comes on in the instrument panel.
SYMBOLS
Special coloured labels have been attached near or actu-
ally on some of the components of your Fiat Punto. These
labels bear symbols that remind you of the precautions
to be taken as regards that particular component.
A plate summarising the symbols used can be found under
the bonnet fig. 2.

Enabling the AQS (Air Quality System) function
The AQS function (AQS appears on the display), auto-
matically activates internal air recirculation when the out-
side air is polluted (e.g. in traffic queues and tunnels).
IMPORTANT With the AQS function active, after 15 con-
secutive minutes of the internal air recirculation system
functioning, the climate control system enables the intake
of outside air for approximately 1 minute to freshen the
air in the passenger compartment. This takes place re-
gardless of the pollution level of the outside air.
SET TEMPERATURE ALIGNMENT
(MONO function)
Press the MONO button to align the temperature be-
tween the driver side and passenger side.
Then turn the AUTO or MONO knob to in-
crease/decrease the temperature between the two areas
by the same amount.
Press MONO again to deactivate the function.
CLIMATE CONTROL COMPRESSOR
ACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION
Press button òto switch on the climate control system
compressor.Compressor on
❒the LED on button òis lit up;
❒symbol òis shown on the display.
Compressor off
❒the LED on button òis lit up;
❒symbol òis shown on the display.
❒internal air recirculation is prevented;
❒the AQS function is disabled.
With the climate control compressor switched off, air can-
not be introduced into the passenger compartment at a
lower temperature than the outside; in this case the ò
symbol on the display will flash.
The deactivation of the climate control compressor is
memorized even after the engine has stopped. To turn the
climate control compressor back on, press button òonce
again or press AUTO: if you press AUTO, the other man-
ual settings will be cancelled.
SETTING THE AIR DISTRIBUTION
Press one or more of buttons Q/E/Zto manually select
one of the 7 possible air distribution settings for the pas-
senger compartment:
QAir flow to the windscreen and front side window
vents to demist/defrost them.
ZAir flow to the front and rear footwell vents. This
air distribution warms up the passenger compart-
ment quickly.

CAR INACTIVITY
(with Start&Stop system without dummy pole)
(for versions/markets where provided)
In case of car inactivity, special attention must be paid due
to the disconnection of the battery power supply. Proceed
as follows: detach the connector A-fig. 123 (by pressing
button B) from sensor C for monitoring the battery sta-
tus installed on the battery negative pole D. This sensor
should never be disconnected from the pole except if the
battery is replaced. OPERATING IRREGULARITIES
In the case of malfunctions the Start&Stop system is dis-
abled. The driver is informed of the problem by the gen-
eral failure warning light A-fig. 121, where provided, com-
ing on with an information message and the system fail-
ure symbol B-fig. 121 on the control panel. In this case,
contact a Fiat Dealership.
CAR INACTIVITY fig. 122
(with Start&Stop system with dummy pole)
(for versions/markets where provided)
In case of vehicle inactivity conditions, pay special atten-
tion to the disconnection of the battery power supply. The
procedure must be made by disconnecting the quick re-
lease negative terminal A-fig. 122 from the dummy nega-
tive pole B, as the battery negative pole C has a sensor D
for battery condition monitoring that must never be dis-
connected (unless the battery is replaced).KNOWING
