Battery operation in the master key is monitored by a check light . The
check light flashes when one of the buttons on the master key is
pressed. If the check light does not flash, the battery is dead and has
to be replaced .
In add ition , when the battery is dead the ..: symbol appears in the
instrument cluster display as well as the message:
Please change key battery
We recommend having the battery changed by an Audi Dealer .•
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized use of
your vehicle.
A computer chip inside your key automatically deactivates the elec
tronic immobilizer when you insert the key in the ignition lock, or on
vehicles with Convenience key*, when the key is inside the vehicle.
When you remove the key from the ign it ion lock , or on veh icles with
Convenience key, when you remove the key from the vehicle, the elec
tronic immobilizer is automatically activated once again.
& WARNING
Always take the key with you when you leave the vehicle. The key
can disarm the electronic engine immobilizer and permit an unau
thorized person to start the engine and enable operation of the
vehicle systems such as power window or power sunroof leading
to serious personal injury .
(I) Tips
• The immobilizer prevents unauthorized use of the vehicle. The
vehicle cannot be sta rted if an unauthorized key is used. The vehicle
may not start if another radio device such as a key for another vehicle
or a transponder is located on the key ring.

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all doors and
the rear lid simultaneously.
The power locking system in your vehicle incorporates the following
functions:
• Central locking function
• Selective unlock feature~
page 44
• Remote control feature ~ page 40
• Convenience key*=> page 50
• Anti -theft alarm system ~ page 52
All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking system
when you lock the veh icle. You can set whether generally only the
dr iver's door or all doors and the rear lid should be unlocked when you
open the vehicle in the MMI menu
Central locking to suit your indi
vidual desires~
page 44.
Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by turning the key inside the driver's door lock. When you
unlock your vehicle:
• The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated briefly .
• The vehicle interior lights illuminate for approximately 30
seconds.
• All turn signal lights will flash twice when the car is unlocked .

The roof will slide open or t ilt up at the rear as requ ired. When the
ignition is on, you can slide the roof open or close it to the desired
position by turning the rota ry control sw itch located ove rhead next to
the interior light. The roof is tilted open or closed by pressing or
pulling the contro l switch at position@~ fig. 45.
You can still close or open the sunroof for up to ten minutes after you
have switched off the ignition with the key remaining in the ignition
lock. If either door is opened, powered operation of the sunroof will
be deactivated.
S olar roof*
The solar cells in the roof provide energy to operate the ventilation
system for the climate control. It is activated automatically after the
vehicle is parked. Depending on solar irradiation, the interior temper
ature of the vehicle is lowered in the summer, in the winter the inte
r ior is dehumidif ied.
Sola r prot ection with sliding gl ass sun roof
The sliding glass sun roof is equipped with an adjustab le sunshade to
reduce the effects of strong sunlight. The solar protection can be
moved at the recessed handle to open and close it. To prevent the

(I) Tips
If the climate control system is operating in cooling mode , air flows
p rima rily from th e outlets in the center console and in the door
pillars . T o ach ieve adequa te cooling, you should never close the
ou tle ts completely. •
Using climate controls economically
Using the climate controls prudently can help save fuel.
When you use the a ir conditioner, e ngine power is reduced
and fuel consumption increa ses. To save fu el, you should use
the air co nditioner o nly when necessary. Also please note the
following points :
If you want to save fuel , activate ECON .
If you are going to drive with the wi ndows open, use ECO N.
~ For the sake of the environment
By reducing t he amount of fuel you use, you also reduce the amou nt
of pollutants emitted into the air .•

as the concentration of pollutants in the outside air drops, fresh air is
supplied to the vehicle interior again.
In the event that the windows fog up during automatic air recircula
tion, you must press th e@ button immediately.
Under certain operating conditions, automatic air recirculation is
switched off automatically. With outside temperatures below about
-8 °C and in the ECON mode, automatic air recirculation is limited to
15 seconds. •
Synchronization
One climate control setting for all seats.
With synchronization active, the driver's or the passenger's settings
are adopted for the other seats. All the other settings that were made
are transferred to the other seats. This includes all the climate
control settings right down to the heated seats.
If a different setting is selected at a "synchronized seat", synchroni
zation is cancelled. •
Center air vent
The temperature of the air leaving the center vents can be
changed to differ from the temperature setting.
Fig. 129 MMI display:
Center air vent
The air flow coming from the center vents can be adjusted to be
colder or warmer than the selected set temperature.
In this way you have the opportunity to have the air flow from the
center vents a little warmer or cooler, depending on the time of year.
A little cooler in the summer and a little warmer in the winter. •
Applies to veh icles: w ith rear air conditioning
Rear seat operation
The rear climate controls can be operated from the
driver's area.
With active rear seat operation, the driver or the passenger can
operate the rear climate control system from
his/her controls. •
Applies to veh icles: with solar roof
Solar operation
Depending on the solar irradiation in the vehicle, the fan
will run using solar power to keep fresh air circulating
inside the vehicle, even a~er you switch off the ignition.
-Switch the solar operation to on.
After you switch off the ignition, the fan is operated using so lar
power from the solar roof. Make sure outlets ® and © are open for
maximum ventilation=::;,
page 111, fig. 124.
The ventilation works only if the sunroof is closed or tilted up.
If you turn off the engine while the air recircu lation is on, the air
conditioning automatically switches to fresh air mode.
Solar operation is not activated at low outside temperatures. •
