Eve ry safety be lt is equipped with an automatic belt retractor on the
shoulder belt. This feature locks the belt when the belt is pulled out
fast, during hard braking and in an accident. The belt may a lso lock
when you drive up or down a steep hill or through a sharp curve .
During normal driving the belt lets you move free ly.
Safety belt prete nsi oners
The safety belts are equipped with a be lt pretensioner that he lps to
tighten the sa fety be lt and remove slack when the pretensioner is
activated. The function of the pretensioner is monitored by a
warning light=>
page 14 .

a switchab le locking feature that
must be used when the safety belt

• A sensor in the safety belt latch for the dr iver and for the front
seat passenge r that se nses whe the r tha t safety belt is la tched or not
and transmits this information to the electronic control unit.
& WARNING
Damage to the front passenger seat can prevent the front airbag
from working properly .
• Improper repair or disassembly of the front passenger and
driver seat will prevent the Advanced Airbag Sy stem from func ­
tioning properly .
• Repairs to the front passenger seat must be performed by qual­
ified and properly tra ined workshop personnel .
• Never remove the front passenger or driver seat from the
vehi cle .
• Never remove the uphol stery from the front passenger seat.
• Never disassemble or remove parts from the seat or disconnect
wires from it .
• Never carry sharp objects in your pockets or place them on the
seat .
If the weight -sensing mat in the passenger seat is punctured
it cannot work properly.
• Never carry things on your lap or carry objects on the
passenger seat. Such items can increase the weight registered by
the weight -sensing mat and send the wrong information to the
airbag control unit .

• Never store items under the front passenger seat. Parts of the
Advanced Airbag System under the passenger seat could be damaged , preventing them and the airbag system from work ing
properly .
• Never place seat covers or replacement upholstery that have
not been specifically approved by Audi on the front seats.
• Seat covers can prevent the Advanced Airbag Sy stem from
recogn izing child restraints or occupants on the front passenger
s eat and prevent the side airbag in the seat backrest from
deploying properly.
• Never use cushions, pillows, blankets or similar items on the
front passenger seat. The additional padding will prevent the
weight-sensing mat in the seat from accurately registering the
child restraint or person on the seat and prevent the Advanced
Airbag System from functioning properly .
• If you must use a child restraint on the front passenger seat
and the child restraint manufacturer's instructions require the use
of a towel, foam cushion or something el se to properly position
the ch ild restraint , make certa in that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light comes on and stays on whenever the child restraint is
installed on the front passenger seat .
• If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay
on , immediately in stall child restraint in a rear seating position
and have the airbag system inspected by your authorized Audi
dealer .•

MMI display
-Cle a n the MMI display with a soft c lean clo th and an LCD
cleane r.
The MM I disp lay can be c leaned with a professionally ava ilable "LCD
cleaner" . Th e cloth should be s lightly dampened with the c leaning
fluid to clean the display.

To avoid scratching the MMI display, you should never c lean it dry .•

MMI terminal
- First clean t he MMI terminal with a brush to remove dust
f rom the housing .
- Th en wipe the MMI terminal with a clean, soft, s lig htly
d a mp cloth.
The MM I terminal should be c leaned with a brush first so that no
dirt is trapped between the buttons and the housing . We recom ­
mend giving the MMI terminal a fina l wipe with a c loth moistened
with wa ter and dish washing detergent .

To prevent damage, make sure that no f luid ever gets into the MM I
terminal. •
Aluminum trim
Use only neutral -pH products to remove spo ts and deposits from
a luminum surfaces . Chrome care products and alka line cleaners
wi ll attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time .

Fabrics and fabric coverings
Fabrics and fabric coverings (e .g . seats, door trim pane ls, etc.l
shou ld be c leaned at regular intervals with a vacuum cleaner . T his
removes surface dirt partic les which could become embedded in
the fabric through use . Steam cleaners should not be used, because
the steam tends to push the dirt deeper into the fabric and lock it
there.
Normal cleaning
Generally, we recommend using a soft sponge or a lint -free
microfiber c loth to the clean fabric . Brushes should on ly be used for
carpets and floor mats , since other fabric surfaces could be harmed
by b rushes. .,,

The intensity of the color determines the visual characteristics and
appearance . If the surface of the leathe r has a typica l natura l loo k,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has been left in a re latively
natural condition . This leather offers particu lar ly good comfort and
breathes well. Fine veins , closed grains, insect bites, skin folds, and
subt le variations in color remain visible . These characte ristics
demonstrate that the material is natu ral.
Natura l nappa lea ther is not covered by a color finish. It is therefore
more sensitive to soi ling and wear, which is something you need to
consider if children, anima ls or other factors m ight prove to be
particula rly ha rd on the leather.
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored finish layer
are more durable. This has a positive effect on the leather's resis­
tance to wear and so iling in daily use. On the other hand, the typica l
characteristics of natural leather are barely or not apparent .
However, this does not mean that the leather itself is of inferior
quality.
C are and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leather that Audi
uses and the ir unique properties (such as sensitivity to oi ls, grease,
soiling, etc.I, you will need to be somewhat careful with these
lea thers, a nd a certain type o f care is requ ired . For example, dark
clothing materials can discolor leather seats (especial ly if such
cloth ing is damp and wa s not dyed correctly). Dust and dirt particles
in pores, folds, and seams can have an abrasive effect and can
damage the leather surface as we ll as weaken seams .
The leather shou ld be c leaned regularly as needed . Af ter having
been used for a relative ly long time, your leather seats will acquire
a rich a ged finish. This is a cha racteristic of natural leather and a
sign of true qua lity.
I n orde r to mai ntain the value of this natura l p roduct over the life of
your vehic le, you should fo llow the recommendations below :

• To keep your leather from bleaching out, do not allow it to be
exposed to bright sun light for long periods of time . If you have to
leave the vehicle parked outside for long periods, cover the lea ther
to protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
• Sharp objects on c lothing, such as zippers, rivets or sharp p ieces
on belts can leave permanent scratches or sc rape marks on the
su rface of the leather.
[ i ] Tips
• After each t ime you clean the leather and a t regular i ntervals, use
a leather preservative cream that contains UV-blockers and that
wo rks int o the leathe r. This cream wil l n ou rish and moistur ize the
leather, helping it to breathe and stay supple . It a lso helps to build
up a protec tive coating on the surface .
• Clean the leather every 2 - 3 months, and c lean any areas that get
s o iled .
• Remove fresh marks made by bal lpoint pens, ink, lipstick, shoe
polish, etc . as soon as poss ible.
• P reserve the co lor of the leather as needed by using a special
colored leather ca re cream to touch up areas o f uneven colo r. •
