STOP & START
T h e S t o p & S t a r t s y s t e m p u t s t h e e n -
g i n e t e m p o r a r i l y o n s t a n d b y - S T O P
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c
( r e d l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , o r o t h e r . . . ) .
The engine restarts automatically -
S T A R T m o d e - a s s o o n a s y o u w a n t
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
P e r f e c t f o r u r b a n u s e , t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m r e d u c e s f u e l c o n s u m p -
t i o n a n d e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system, at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N .
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby: I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d
with the system, a time
counter calculates the
sum of the periods in
S T O P m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s
itself to zero every time the ignition
is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
m a o e u v r e s , S T O P m o d e i s n o t a v a i l -
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
S T O P m o d e d o e s n o t a f f e c t t h e f u n c -
t i o n a l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e , s u c h a s f o r e x -
ample, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine
i n S T O P m o d e ; y o u m u s t
switch off the ignition with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
In this case, the "ECO"
w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a
few seconds then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
S T O P m o d e i s n o t i n v o k e d w h e n :
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (bat- tery charge, engine tempera-
ture, braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.

Brake pads Brake wear depends on
the style of driving, par-
ticularly in the case of ve-
hicles used in town, over
short distances. It may be
necessary to have the condition of
the brakes checked, even between
vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no
oil change).
Automatic gearbox The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no
oil change). Brake disc wear
For information relating to
checking the brake disc
wear, contact a CITROËN
dealer.
Parking brake If a loss of effectiveness
of this system is noticed,
the parking brake must be
checked, even between
two services.
This system must be checked by a
CITROËN dealer. Only use products recom-
mended by CITROËN or
products of equivalent quality
a n d s p e c i fi c a t i o n s .
Do not use a dry cloth with an abra-
sive product for the maintenance of
aluminium parts; use a sponge and
soapy water.
In order to optimise the operation
of units as important as the braking
system, CITROËN selects and of-
f e r s v e r y s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compartment
is strictly prohibited .
