STOPPING

the moment of switching off the
ignition. This could cause serious
damage to the turbocharger(s).
IGNITION SWITCH
1. "S": Steering lock
To unlock the steering, gently move
the steering wheel while turning the
key, without forcing it.
2. "M": Drive position
Depending on the version of your
vehicle, the orange and red warn-
ing lamps should also come on for
a short time.
3. "D": Starter
Release the key as soon the engine
has started.
I f t h e fi r s t a t t e m p t f a i l s , s w i t c h o f f t h e
ignition. Wait ten seconds then oper-
ate the starter again. Steering lock
1. "
S": After removing the key, turn
the steering wheel to lock the steer-
ing. The key can only be removed in
position S .
2. "M": Ignition switched on, the
steering is unlocked (by turning the
key to position M , move the steering
wheel gently if necessary).
3. "D": Starter position.
Never turn the key to this position
when the engine is running.
Do not run the engine in an enclosed
s p a c e o r w h e r e t h e r e i s i n s u f fi c i e n t
ventilation.
It is essential always to drive with
the engine running in order to retain
braking and steering assistance.
Never remove the ignition key
before the vehicle has come to a
complete stop.
Avoid attaching a heavy object to
the key which would weigh down
on its shaft in the switch and could
cause a malfunction. Vehicles equipped with
a turbocharger
Never stop the engine without having
allowed it to run for a few seconds at
idle, this being the time required for
the turbocharger to return to a normal
speed.

Capacity of the tank: approximately
71 litres.
Low fuel level
When the minimum level
in the tank is reached, this
warning lamp comes on
in the instrument panel,
accompanied by an audible warning
and a message on the multifunction
s c r e e n . W h e n i t fi r s t c o m e s o n , t h e r e
remains around 5 litres of fuel in the
tank.
You must refuel to avoid running out
of fuel.
Press at the top left corner, then
pull open from the left.
turn the key a quarter turn to lock
a n d u n l o c k t h e fi l l e r c a p ,
when refuelling, place the cap on
hook A ,
fi l l t h e t a n k , b u t do not persist
after the third cut-off ; this could
cause your vehicle to malfunction.
While you are refuelling, the engine
must be stopped and the ignition
switched off.
For a petrol engine with a cata-
lytic converter, unleaded fuel is
compulsory.
Opening the fuel flap Additions of fuel must be of at least
5 litres to be taken into account by
the fuel gauge.
T h e fi l l e r n e c k i s n a r r o w e r t o e n s u r e
that only unleaded petrol nozzles
can be put in.
O p e n i n g t h e fi l l e r c a p m a y c r e a t e
a noise of an inrush of air. This
vacuum, which is entirely normal,
is caused by the sealing of the fuel
system.
Refuelling
With Stop & Start, never re-
fuel with the system in STOP
mode; you must switch off
the ignition with the key.

Dynamic emergency braking
In the event of a failure of the vehi-
cle’s main braking system or in an
e x c e p t i o n a l s i t u a t i o n ( e . g . d r i v e r t a k -
en ill, under instruction, etc) pull and
hold control A to stop the vehicle.
The electronic stability programme
( E S P ) p r o v i d e s s t a b i l i t y d u r i n g d y -
namic emergency braking.
If the dynamic emergency braking
malfunctions, one of the following
messages will be displayed on the
instrument panel display:
- "Parking brake faulty".
- "Parking brake control faulty". I f a f a i l u r e o f t h e E S P s y s -
tem is signalled by the light-
ing of this warning lamp,
then braking stability is not
guaranteed. In this event, stability
must be assured by the driver by
repeating alternate "pull release" ac-
tions on control A .
The dynamic emergency
braking must only be used in
e x c e p t i o n a l c i r c u m s t a n c e s . Emergency parking brake
release
In the event of the electric parking
brake failing to release, an emer-
gency device can be used to release
the parking brake manually, provid-
ed that it is possible to immobilise
the vehicle while the procedure is
carried out.
If you can start the vehicle: with
the engine running, immobilise
the vehicle by applying the foot
brake while the operation is be-
ing carried out.
If you are unable to start the ve-
h i c l e ( fl a t b a t t e r y f o r e x a m p l e ) : d o
not use this device and contact
a CITROËN dealer. However, if
y o u a r e o b l i g e d t o p r o c e e d , fi r s t
immobilise your vehicle securely
and then follow the instructions
below.
If the vehicle cannot be im-
mobilised, do not operate
the emergency release. Your ve-
hicle may run away on any slope.

When immobilising the ve-
hicle, with the engine running,
you must place the gear lever
in neutral N .
Before carrying out any work in the
engine compartment, check that
the gear lever is in neutral N and
that the parking brake is applied.
SPORT programme Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can choose to:
- move to position N to engage
neutral,
- leave the gear engaged; in this case, it will not be possible to
move the vehicle.
In both cases, you must apply the
parking brake to immobilise the ve-
hicle. Operating fault

AUTO , accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the mul-
tifunction screen, indicates a mal-
f u n c t i o n o f t h e g e a r b o x .
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
Wit the gear lever at A and the
engine running, press button S to
activate the SPORT programme,
which provides a more dynamic
driving style.
S appears in the instrument panel.
Press the S button again to
switch it off.
S then disappears from the instru-
ment panel screen. You must press the brake pedal
when starting the engine.
Whatever the circumstances, you
must manually apply the parking
brake when parking, unless the
parking brake is programmed in au-
tomatic mode.

The engine restarts automatically -
S T A R T m o d e - a s s o o n a s y o u w a n t
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
P e r f e c t f o r u r b a n u s e , t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m r e d u c e s f u e l c o n s u m p -
t i o n a n d e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system, at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N .
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby: I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d
with the system, a time
counter calculates the
sum of the periods in
S T O P m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s
itself to zero every time the ignition
is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
m a o e u v r e s , S T O P m o d e i s n o t a v a i l -
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
S T O P m o d e d o e s n o t a f f e c t t h e f u n c -
t i o n a l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e , s u c h a s f o r e x -
ample, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine
i n S T O P m o d e ; y o u m u s t
switch off the ignition with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
In this case, the "ECO"
w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a
few seconds then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
S T O P m o d e i s n o t i n v o k e d w h e n :
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (bat- tery charge, engine tempera-
ture, braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.

BONNET
Opening
Lift the safety catch B and raise
the bonnet.
Unclip the stay C from its hous-
ing and pivot it to insert it in the
notch D indicated by a yellow ar-
row.
Fix the stay in the notch to hold
the bonnet open. Closing
Take the stay out of the support
notch.
Clip the stay in its housing.
Lower the bonnet then slam it
fi r m l y a t t h e e n d o f i t s t r a v e l .
Pull on the bonnet to check that
it is fully closed.
When the engine is hot, handle the
safety catch and bonnet stay with
care (risk of burns).
The location of the interior release
lever prevents opening of the bon-
net while the left hand front door is
closed.
This operation must only be carried
out when the vehicle is stationary.
Avoid opening the bonnet in strong
winds.
Open the front passenger door.
Pull the interior bonnet release
lever A , located at the bottom of
the door frame. Before doing anything under
the bonnet, switch off the Stop & Start system to avoid any risk
of injury resulting from an automat-
ic change to START mode.

CHECKS
Unless otherwise indicated, check
these components in accordance
with the Maintenance and Warranty
Guide and according to your en-
gine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Battery The battery does not re-
quire any maintenance.
However, check that the
terminals are clean and cor-
rectly tightened, particularly
in summer and winter.
When carrying out work on the bat-
tery, refer to the "Practical infor-
mation" section for details of the
precautions to be taken before dis-
connecting the battery and following
its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Refer to the Maintenance
and Warranty Guide for
details of the replacement
intervals for these compo-
nents.
Depending on the environment (e.g.
dusty atmosphere) and the use of
the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace
them twice as often if necessary
(refer to the "Engines" section).
A clogged passenger compartment
fi l t e r m a y h a v e a n a d v e r s e e f f e c t o n
the performance of the air condition-
ing system and generate undesir-
able odours.
Oil filter
R e p l a c e t h e o i l fi l t e r e a c h
time the engine oil is
changed. Particle filter system (Diesel)
Complementary to the catalytic
c o n v e r t e r , t h i s fi l t e r m a k e s a n a c -
tive contribution to the preservation
of air quality by the retaining of the
unburnt pollutant particles. Black
exhaust fumes are thus no longer
emitted.
After prolonged idling or driving at very
low speeds, you may occasionally no-
tice water vapour being emitted from
the exhaust when accelerating. This
is of no consequence to the running of
the vehicle or to the environment.
If there is risk of clogging, a mes-
sage appears on the instrument
panel display, accompanied by an
audible signal and lighting of the
service warning lamp.
This alert tells you that the particle
fi l t e r i s s t a r t i n g t o fi l l u p ( i n c o n d i -
tions of urban driving of excep-
tionally long duration: low speeds,
t r a f fi c j a m s e t c . ) .
T o r e g e n e r a t e t h e fi l t e r , i t i s a d v i s e d
to drive as soon as possible, when
t r a f fi c c o n d i t i o n s p e r m i t , a t a s p e e d
of 40 mph (around 60 km/h) or
m o r e f o r a t l e a s t fi v e m i n u t e s ( u n t i l
the alert message disappears).
If this alert persists, consult a
CITROËN dealer.
Refer to the Maintenance and
Warranty Guide for details of the re-
placement interval for this component.
The presence of this label, in par-
ticular with the Stop & Start system,
i n d i c a t e s t h e u s e o f a s p e c i fi c 1 2 V
lead-acid battery with special tech-
n o l o g y a n d s p e c i fi c a t i o n , f o r w h i c h
the involvement of a CITROËN
dealer is required when replacing or
disconnecting the battery.
Failure to observe this recommen-
dation may cause premature wear
of the battery.
