When the vehicle is
being driven, the res-
pective illumination of
these warning lights
on the instrument pa-
nel, accompanied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction dis-
play, indicates that the handbrake is still
on or has not been properly released.
When parking on a slope, direct
your wheels towards the pave-
ment and pull the handbrake.
HANDBRAKE
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the button
to release the handbrake.
6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX
Starting the vehicle
Before starting your vehicle:
- ensure that the gear lever is in neutral,
or
- if a gear is engaged, press the clutch pedal.
Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise your
vehicle.
Reverse
To change to reverse gear, lift the ring
under the gear lever knob and push
the gear lever to the left then to the
front.
Reverse gear can only be engaged
when the vehicle is stationary with
the engine idling.
When the ignition is on with
the engine off, always select
neutral.
IGNITION SWITCH
1. Stop position.
2. Running position.
3. Starting position.
The PC Com can be switched
on with the ignition off for a
combined duration of approxi-
mately thirty minutes.
A heavy object (key ring...), attached
to the key and weighing down on its
shaft in the switch, may cause a mal-
function.

time,
- force the lever from position P to
another position when the battery

Any operating abnormality is
indicated by lighting of this
warning light, accompanied
by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunc-
tion display.
In this situation the gearbox opera-
tes in downgrade mode (locked in
3rd gear). You may feel a substantial
knock when changing from P to R and
from N to R (this will not cause any da-
mage to the gearbox).
Do not exceed 60 mph (100 km/h) or
keep within local speed limits.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
The suspension adapts automatically
and instantly to different driving styles
and road characteristics, improving
the comfort of the occupants and the
vehicle's road holding capabilities.
The suspension favours a smooth
shock absorption, ensuring a comfor-
table ride, but as soon as conditions
demand a change (sporty driving, ti-
ght bends, avoidance action, etc.), it

holding.
When the ignition is switched on, the
electronic suspension is always active
in automatic operation mode.

TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT, ETC...
We recommend the use of original
PEUGEOT towbars and their harnesses
which have been tested and approved
from the design stage of your vehicle and

ing the electrical pre-equipment installed
at the rear of the vehicle, in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions.
Note: in certain cases of par-
ticularly arduous use (towing
the maximum load in high
temperatures on a steep
slope), the engine automatically lim-
its its power and selects the appropri-
ate automatic gearbox gear in manual
mode. In this case, cutting off the air
conditioning allows the engine power
to be recovered, and therefore the
towing capacity to be increased. A u t o m a t i c a d j u s t m e n t
To avoid causing a nuisance to other
road users, this system automatical-
ly corrects the height of the beam of
xenon bulbs in relation to the vehicle
load after approximately 2 minutes.
The driver is then assured of having
optimum lighting.
D r i v i n g a d v i c e
D i s t r i b u t i o n o f l o a d s : distribute the
load in the trailer so that the heavi-
est loads are as close as possible to
the axle and the nose weight is close
to the maximum authorised without,
however, exceeding it.
Lighting
Tyres: check the tyre pressures of the
towing vehicle (label on the central
door pillar on the driver's side) and of
the trailer towed, observing the recom-
mended pressure.
If the coolant temperature
warning light comes on, stop
the vehicle and switch off the
engine as soon as possible.
I n t h e c a s e o f v e h i c l e s fi t t e d w i t h a n
HDI engine, it is advisable, following
intensive use (towing on a motorway,
prolonged driving, ...), to leave the en-
gine running at idle for approximately
20 seconds before switching off the
ignition. This limits any increase in the
temperature of the engine after it has
been switched off.
In all cases, pay attention to the coolant
temperature.
Brakes: towing increases the braking
distance. Drive at a moderate speed,
change down early and brake gradually.
S i d e w i n d : sensitivity to side wind is
increased. Drive smoothly and at a
moderate speed.
Cooling: towing a trailer on a slope in-
creases the coolant temperature.
As the fan is electrically controlled, its
cooling capacity is not dependent on
the engine speed.
