Deactivation warning lamps

Warning lamp is on Cause Action/Observations
Passenger's
air bag
system fi x e d . The control, located in the
glove box, is set to the
OFF
position.
The passenger's front
airbag is deactivated. Set the control to the
ON position to activate the
p a s s e n g e r ' s f r o n t a i r b a g . I n t h i s c a s e , d o n o t fi t a
child seat in the rear-facing position.
The passenger's airbag system is put into service
automatically when the vehicle is started.
ESP/ASR fi x e d . The button, located
in the centre of
the dashboard,
is pressed. Its
indicator lamp is on.
The ESP/ASR is
deactivated.
ESP: electronic stability
programme.
ASR: anti-skid regulation. Press the button to activate the ESP/ASR. Its
indicator lamp switches off.
From approximately 30 mph (50 km/h), the
system is reactivated automatically.
The ESP/ASR system is activated automatically
when the vehicle is started.

Warning lamp is on Cause Action/Observations
Airbags temporarily.
This lamp comes on for
a few seconds when you
turn on the ignition, then
switches off. This lamp should switch off when the engine is
started.
If it does not switch off, contact a PEUGEOT
dealer.

belt pretensioner systems
has a fault. Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Front seat
belt not

belt.
Pull the strap then insert the tongue in the
buckle.
Rear seat belt

by an audible signal. One or more rear
passengers have
unfastened their seat belt.
Power
steering fi x e d . The power steering has a
fault. Drive carefully at reducd speed.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Water in
Diesel fi x e d . T h e d i e s e l fi l t e r c o n t a i n s
water. Risk of damage to the injection system on Diesel
engines.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
Punctured
wheel fi x e d . One or more wheels are
punctured or seriously
d e fl a t e d . Stop immediately avoiding any sharp action on
the steering wheel or the brakes.
Repair or change the damaged wheel and have
the pressure of the tyres checked as soon as
possible.

Illuminated glove box *
This has an upper open storage com-
partment and locations for storing a
small bottle of water, the vehicle’s hand-
book, ...
Its lid has locations for storing a pen,
tokens, cards, cans, ...

To open the glove box, raise the
handle.
It is illuminated when the lid is opened.
It houses the front passenger airbag de-
activation switch A .
To connect a 12 V accessory (max
power: 120 Watts), lift the cover and
connect a suitable adaptor.
12 V accessories socket
I f t h e v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a u t o m a t i c
air conditioning, it provides access to
the ventilation nozzle B , which can be
opened or closed, distributing the same
conditioned air as the vents in the pas-
senger compartment.
It also permits access to the dashboard
f u s e b o x ( r e f e r t o t h e " P r a c t i c a l i n f o r m a -
t i o n - § C h a n g i n g a f u s e " s e c t i o n ) .

Deactivate the passenger airbag
w h e n a " r e a r f a c i n g " c h i l d s e a t i s i n -
stalled on the front seat. Otherwise,
the child would risk being seriously
injured or killed if the airbag were to

"Forwards-facing"
W h e n a " f o r w a r d s - f a c i n g " c h i l d s e a t i s
installed on the front passenger seat ,
a d j u s t t h e v e h i c l e ' s s e a t t o t h e i n t e r m e -
diate longitudinal position with the seat
back upright and leave the passenger
airbag activated.
"Rearwards-facing"
W h e n a " r e a r w a r d s - f a c i n g " c h i l d s e a t i s
installed on the
front passenger seat ,
it is essential that the passenger airbag
is deactivated. Otherwise, the child
would risk being seriously injured or
k i l l e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
Intermediate longitudinal position

Although one of PEUGEOT's main
criteria when designing your vehicle,
the safety of your children also depends
on you.
For maximum safety, please follow
these precautions:
- i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h E u r o p e a n r e g -
ulations, all children under the
age of 12 or less than one and a
half metres tall must travel in ap-
proved child seats suited to their
weight , o n s e a t s fi t t e d w i t h a s e a t
belt or ISOFIX mountings * ,
- statistically, the safest seats in
your vehicle for the transportation
of children are the rear seats,
- a child weighing less than 9 kg
must travel in the "rearwards-
facing" position both in the front
a n d i n t h e r e a r .

AIR BAGS Front airbags
System which protects the head and
chest of the driver and front passenger
in the event of a front impact.
The driver’s airbag is incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel; the
front passenger’s airbag is incorporated
in the dashboard above the glove box.
Activation
The airbags are triggered simultaneous-
ly, unless the passenger’s front airbag
is deactivated, in the event of a serious
front impact applied to all or part of the
front impact zone A , in the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement. Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
System designed to maximise the safety of the occupants (with the exception of the rear centre passenger) in the event of violent collisions. It supplements the action of the force-limiting seat belts.
If a collision occurs, the electronic de-tectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the air bags are triggered instantly and protect the occupants of the vehicle (with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y so that they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the air bags will not be triggered; the s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o -vide optimum protection in these situations.
