The ECU checks the signal whether the
ignition key is valid.
If the key is determined to be valid, the
engine will start.
If the key is determined to be invalid, the
engine will not start.
To deactivate the immobiliser sys-tem:
Insert the ignition key into the key cylin-
der and turn it to the ON position.
To activate the immobiliser system:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
The immobiliser system activates auto-
matically. Without a valid ignition key for
your vehicle, the engine will not start.
✽✽ NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not use the
key with other immobiliser keys around.Otherwise the engine may not start or
may stop soon after it starts. To avoid
malfunction of the immobiliser system,always keep ignition key on separatekey chain / ring.

If you need additional keys or lose your keys, consult an authorised Hyundai
dealer.
CAUTION
The transponder in your ignition key is an important part of the immobiliser system. It is designed to give years of trouble-free service,
however you should avoid expo- sure to moisture, static electricityand rough handling. Immobiliser system malfunction could occur.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust theimmobiliser system because it
could cause the immobiliser sys- tem to malfunction and should onlybe serviced by an authorisedHyundai dealer.
Malfunctions caused by improperalterations, adjustments or modifi- cations to the immobiliser systemare not covered by your vehicle manufacturer warranty.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your
vehicle, do not leave spare keys
anywhere in your vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not install the metal accessories near the key or ignition switch.
The engine may not start for themetal accessories may interrupt the transponder signal from normally

Remote keyless entry system operations
Lock (1)
All doors are locked if the lock button is pressed.
If all doors are closed, the hazard warn-
ing lights blink once to indicate that all
doors are locked. However, if any door
remains open, the hazard warning lights
don’t blink. After this, if all doors are
closed, the hazard warning lights blink.
Unlock (2)
All doors are unlocked if the unlock but- ton is pressed.
The hazard warning lights will blink twice
to indicate that all doors are unlocked.
After depressing this button, the doors
will be locked automatically unless you
open any door within 30 seconds.
Boot lid open (3)
The boot lid opens if this button is pressed (more than 0.5 second). Transmitter precautions

This system is designed to provide pro-
tection from unauthorised entry into the
car. This system is operated in three
stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the
second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and
the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If trig-
gered, the system provides an audible
alarm with blinking of the hazard warning
lights. Armed stage
Park the car and stop the engine. Arm
the system as described below.
1. Remove the ignition key from the igni-
tion switch.
2. Make sure that all doors, the engine bonnet and boot lid are closed and latched.
3. Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above, the
hazard warning lights will blink once to
indicate that the system is armed.
If any door, boot lid or engine bonnet
remains open, the hazard warning lights
won’t operate and theft-alarm will not
arm. After this, if all doors, boot lid andengine bonnet are closed, the hazard
warning lights blink once. Do not arm the system until all pas-
sengers have left the vehicle. If thesystem is armed while a passen-
ger(s) remains in the vehicle, the
alarm may be activated when the
remaining passenger(s) leave the
vehicle. If any door, boot lid orengine bonnet is opened within 30seconds after entering the armed
stage, the system is disarmed to
prevent unnecessary alarm.

The alarm will be activated if any of the
following occurs while the system is
armed.
A front or rear door is opened withoutusing the ignition key or transmitter.
The boot lid is opened without using the transmitter.
The engine bonnet is opened.The siren will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously for
27 seconds, and repeat the alarm 3
times unless the system is disarmed. To
turn off the system, unlock the doors with
the ignition key or transmitter.
✽✽ NOTICE
If you lose your keys, consult your
authorised Hyundai dealer.
Withheld alarm
If the boot lid is opened with the trans-
mitter during the armed stage, the alarm
will not be activated but the armed state
will be maintained for the doors and bon-net. Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when the
doors are unlocked by depressing the
unlock button on the transmitter or
unlocked with the ignition key.
After depressing unlock button, the haz-
ard warning lights will blink twice to indi-
cate that the system is disarmed.
After depressing unlock button, if any
door is not opened within 30 seconds,
the system will be rearmed.
If the system is not disarmed with the
ignition key or transmitter, insert the key
in the ignition switch and turn the key to
the START position. Then the system will
be disarmed.

Operating door locks from inside
the vehicle
With the door lock button
To unlock a door, push the door lockbutton (1) to the “Unlock” position. The
red mark (2) on the button will be visi-
ble.
To lock a door, push the door lock but- ton (1) to the “Lock” position. If the door
is locked properly, the red mark (2) on
the door lock button will not be visible.
To open a door, pull the door handle (3) outward.
If the inner door handle of the front door is pulled when the door lock but-
ton is in lock position, the button is
unlocked and door opens. (if equipped) Front doors cannot be locked if the
ignition key is in the ignition switch and
any front door is open.
With central door lock switch
It is operated by depressing the door lock
switch. If the “Lock” position is switched
when any door is open, the door will
remain locked when closed.

WARNING - Door lock mal-
function
If a power door lock ever fails to
function while you are in the vehi-
cle, try one or more of the following
techniques to exit:
Operate the door unlock feature repeatedly (both electronic and
manual) while simultaneously
pulling on the door handle.
Operate the other door locks and handles, front and rear.
Lower a front window and use the key to unlock the door from out-
side.

When pushing down on the front por-
tion (1) of the switch, all vehicle doors
will lock.
When pushing down on the rear por- tion (2) of the switch, all vehicle doors
will unlock.
However, if the key is in the ignition switch and any front door is open, the
doors will not lock when the front por-
tion of central door lock switch ispressed.
WARNING - Unlocked

Leaving your vehicle unlocked can
invite theft or possible harm to you
or others from someone hiding in
your vehicle while you are gone.
Always remove the ignition key,
engage the parking brake, close all
windows and lock all doors when
leaving your vehicle unattended.
WARNING - Unattended
children
An enclosed vehicle can become
extremely hot, causing death or
severe injury to unattended chil-dren or animals who cannot escape
the vehicle. Furthermore, children
might operate features of the vehi-
cle that could injure them, or they
could encounter other harm, possi-
bly from someone gaining entry to
the vehicle. Never leave children or
animals unattended in your vehicle.
WARNING - Doors
The doors should always be fully closed and locked while the vehi-
cle is in motion to prevent acci-
dental opening of the door.
Locked doors will also discour-
age potential intruders when the
vehicle stops or slows.
Be careful when opening doors and watch for vehicles, motorcy-
cles, bicycles or pedestrians
approaching the vehicle in the
path of the door. Opening a door
when something is approaching
can cause damage or injury.

Impact sensing door unlock sys- tem (if equipped)
All doors will be automatically unlocked
when the impact is delivered to impact
sensors while the ignition switch ON.
However, the doors may not be unlocked
when there are some problems of
mechanical door lock system or battery.
Speed sensing door lock system (if equipped)
When the speed of the vehicle keeps
above 40 km/h for 1 second, it will auto-
matically lock all doors. For activation of
this feature, contact an authorised
Hyundai dealar.Child-protector rear door lock
The child safety lock is provided to help
prevent children from accidentally open-
ing the rear doors from inside the vehicle.
The rear door safety locks should be
used whenever children are in the vehi-
cle.
1. Open the rear door.
2. Push the child safety lock located on
the rear edge of the door to the “Lock”
position. When the child safety lock is
in the “Lock ( )” position, rear door
will not open even though the inner
door handle is pulled inside the vehi-
cle.
3. Close the rear door. To open the rear door, pull the outsidedoor handle (1).
Even though the doors may be unlocked,
the rear door will not open by pulling theinner door handle (2) until rear door child
safety lock is unlocked ( ).
WARNING
- Rear door
locks
If children accidentally open the
rear doors while the vehicle is in
motion, they could fall out and be
severely injured or killed. To pre-
vent children from opening the rear
doors from the inside, the rear door
safety locks should be used when-
ever children are in the vehicle.

Opening the boot
With remote boot lid release
To open the boot lid without using the
key, push the boot lid release button.
With the key
To open the boot lid, insert the key and
turn it clockwise to unlock. The boot com-
partment light will illuminate when theboot lid is opened. Closing the boot
To close, lower the boot lid, then press
down on it until it locks. To be sure the
boot lid is securely fastened, always
check by trying to pull it up again.
