Low tire pressure warning
(if equipped):Illuminates when
your tire pressure is low. If the light
remains on at start up or while
driving, the tire pressure should be
checked. Refer toInflating your tiresin theTires, Wheels and
Loadingchapter. When the ignition is first turned to on, the light will
illuminate for three seconds to ensure the bulb is working. If the light
does not turn on or begins to flash, have the system inspected by your
authorized dealer. For more information on this system, refer toTi r e
pressure monitoring system (TPMS)in theTires, Wheels and
Loadingchapter.
Low fuel (RTT) (if equipped):
Displays when the fuel level in the
fuel tank is at or near empty (refer
toFuel gaugein this chapter).
Low washer fluid (RTT)
(if equipped):Displays when the
windshield washer fluid is low.
Transmission Tow/Haul Feature
(RTT):Displays when the Tow/Haul
feature has been activated. Refer to
theDrivingchapter for
transmission function and operation.
If the light flashes steadily, have the
system serviced immediately, damage to the transmission could occur.
AdvanceTrac(if equipped):
Displays when the AdvanceTrac
with RSCsystem is active. If the
light remains on, have the system
serviced immediately, refer to the
Drivingchapter for more
information.

chapter.
AIR SUSPENSION OFF (if equipped)— Displayed when the air
suspension is off. For more information, refer toAir suspension system
in theDrivingchapter.
CHECK AIR SUSPENSION (if equipped)— Displayed when the air
suspension system is not operating properly. If this message is displayed
while driving, pull off the road as soon as safely possible. For more
information, refer toAir suspension systemin theDrivingchapter.
CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM— Displayed when the braking system is not
operating properly. If the warning stays on or continues to come on,
contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
PARK BRAKE ENGAGED— Displayed when the manual park brake is
set, the engine is running and the vehicle is driven more than 3 mph
(5 km/h). If the warning stays on after the park brake is released,
contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
CHECK PARK AID(if equipped)—
Displayed when the transmission is
in R (Reverse). Refer toReverse sensing systemin theDrivingchapter.
OIL LIFE CHANGE SOON— Displayed when the engine oil life
remaining is 10% or less. When oil life left is between 10% and 0%, the
XX% OIL LIFE CHANGE SOON message will be displayed.
OIL CHANGE REQUIRED— Displayed when the oil life left reaches
0%, the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message will be displayed.
FOR 4X4 LOW STOP VEHICLE(if equipped)—
Displayed when 4X4
LOW is selected while the vehicle is moving. For more information, refer to
Control Trac four-wheel drive (4x4) operationin theDrivingchapter.
FOR 4X4 LOW SHIFT TO N(if equipped)—Displayed when 4X4
LOW is selected and the vehicle is stopped. For more information, refer to
Control Trac four-wheel drive (4x4) operationin theDrivingchapter.
TO EXIT 4X4 LOW STOP VEHICLE(if equipped)— Displayed when
2WD is selected while the vehicle is operating in 4X4 LOW. For more
information, refer toControl Trac four-wheel drive (4x4) operationin
theDrivingchapter.

If the transmission, transfer case, front axle or rear axle are submerged
in water, their fluids should be checked and changed, if necessary.
Driving through deep water may damage the transmission.
If the front or rear axle is submerged in water, the axle lubricant should
be replaced.
After driving through mud, clean off residue stuck to rotating driveshafts
and tires. Excess mud stuck on tires and rotating driveshafts causes an
imbalance that could damage drive components.
“Tread Lightly” is an educational
program designed to increase public
awareness of land-use regulations
and responsibilities in our nations
wilderness areas. Ford Motor
Company joins the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land
Management in encouraging you to help preserve our national forest and
other public and private lands by “treading lightly.”
Driving on hilly or sloping terrain
Although natural obstacles may make it necessary to travel diagonally up
or down a hill or steep incline, you should always try to drive straight up
or straight down.Avoid driving crosswise or turning on steep
slopes or hills. A danger lies in losing traction, slipping sideways and
possibly rolling over. Whenever driving on a hill, determine beforehand
the route you will use. Do not drive over the crest of a hill without
seeing what conditions are on the other side. Do not drive in reverse
over a hill without the aid of an observer.
When climbing a steep slope or hill,
start in a lower gear rather than
downshifting to a lower gear from a
higher gear once the ascent has
started. This reduces strain on the
engine and the possibility of stalling.
If you do stall out, do not try to
turn around because you might roll
over. It is better to back down to a
safe location.
Apply just enough power to the wheels to climb the hill. Too much
power will cause the tires to slip, spin or lose traction, resulting in loss of
vehicle control.

BRAKE FLUID
The fluid level will drop slowly as
the brakes wear, and will rise when
the brake components are replaced.
Fluid levels between the “MIN” and
“MAX” lines are within the normal
operating range; there is no need to
add fluid. If the fluid levels are
outside of the normal operating
range the performance of the
system could be compromised; seek
service from your authorized dealer
immediately.
TRANSMISSION FLUID
Checking automatic transmission fluid
The automatic transmission does not have a transmission fluid dipstick.
Refer to yourscheduled maintenance informationfor scheduled
intervals for fluid checks and changes. Your transmission does not
consume fluid. However, the fluid level should be checked if the
transmission is not working properly, (i.e., if the transmission slips or
shifts slowly) or if you notice some sign of fluid leakage.
Transmission fluid should be checked by an authorized dealer. If
required, fluid should be added by an authorized dealer.
Do not use supplemental transmission fluid additives, treatments or
cleaning agents. The use of these materials may affect transmission
operation and result in damage to internal transmission components.
AIR FILTER
Refer toscheduled maintenance informationfor the appropriate
intervals for changing the air filter element.
When changing the air filter element, use only the Motorcraft air filter
element listed. Refer toMotorcraft part numbersin this chapter.
WARNING:To reduce the risk of vehicle damage and/or
personal burn injuries do not start your engine with the air
cleaner removed and do not remove it while the engine is running.

1Add the coolant type originally equipped in your vehicle.2Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet the
requirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A and the API Certification mark.3Indicates only approximate dry-fill capacity. Some applications may vary based on cooler size and
if equipped with an in-tank cooler.4Automatic transmissions that require MERCONLV should only use MERCONLV fluid. Refer to
scheduled maintenance informationto determine the correct service interval. Use of any fluid
other than the recommended fluid may cause transmission damage.5Add 4 oz. (118 ml) of Additive Friction Modifier XL-3 or equivalent for complete refill of Ford
Limited Slip rear axles.6Your vehicle’s rear axle is filled with a synthetic rear axle lubricant and is considered lubricated
for life. These lubricants are not to be checked or changed unless a leak is suspected, service is
required or the axle has been submerged in water. The axle lubricant should be changed any time
the axle has been submerged in water.
