5. Press and hold the RESET stem for approximately two seconds to
enter the compass zone adjustment mode.
6. Press and release the RESET stem until the desired zone number
appears.
7. Release the RESET stem and allow the setup timer to expire to exit
the procedure.
Compass calibration adjustment
NOTE: For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away
from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential
electrical accessories (heated rear window, heater, A/C, map lamps,
wiper, etc.) and make sure all the doors are closed.
1. Start the vehicle. Press and release the RESET stem to scroll through
the information displays until the message center displays HOLD
RESET FOR SETUP MENU .
2. Press and hold the RESET stem for approximately two seconds until
the message center displays HOLD RESET FOR SYSTEM CHECK .
3. Press and release the RESET stem to scroll through the system check
displays until the message center displays COMPASS ZONE .
4. Press and hold the RESET stem for approximately two seconds until
the message center to enter the compass zone adjustment mode.
5. Press and hold the RESET stem until the message center displays
CIRCLE SLOWLY TO CALIBRATE .
NOTE: This step may require up to five circles to complete the
calibration.
NOTE: If the RESET stem is pressed during the calibration or three
minutes has elapsed since the beginning of the calibration without
driving the vehicle, the message center reverts back to normal operation
and the CAL will display until a successful calibration is carried out.
6. Slowly drive the vehicle in a circle less than 3 mph (5 km/h ) until the
CIRCLE SLOWLY TO CALIBRATE message changes to
CALIBRATION COMPLETED .

Autolamp
This feature keeps your headlights on for up to three minutes after the
ignition is switched off.
1. To change the time delay of the
autolamp feature, select this
function from the SETUP MENU.
2. Press and hold the RESET stem
for two seconds to select the new
Autolamp delay time (in seconds)
values of 0, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, 120 or 180 and wraps back to 0. Selecting
0 will result in no delay feature.
3. Press the RESET stem for the next SETUP MENU item or wait for
more than four seconds to return to the INFO MENU (HOLD RESET
FOR SETUP MENU will appear).
Autolock
This feature automatically locks all vehicle doors when the vehicle is
shifted into any gear and when the vehicle is in motion over 13 mph
(20 km/h) or higher.
1. To disable/enable the autolock
feature, select this function from the
SETUP MENU.
2. Press and hold the RESET stem
for two seconds to turn the autolock
feature ON or OFF.
3. Press the RESET stem for the next SETUP MENU item or wait for
more than four seconds to return to the INFO MENU (HOLD RESET
FOR SETUP MENU will appear).
Autounlock
This feature automatically unlocks all vehicle doors when the driver’s
door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being turned off.

• Pressing 3 • 4 assigns driver 2 settings.

5. The doors will again lock then unlock to confirm that your personal
entry code has been programmed to the module.
• Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
• The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal
code.
Erasing personal code
1. Enter the factory set 5–digit code.
2. Within five seconds, press the 1 • 2 on the keypad and release.
3. Press and hold the 1 • 2 for two seconds. This must be done within
five seconds of completing Step 2.
Your personal code is now erased and only the factory set 5–digit code
will work.
Anti-scan feature
If the wrong code has been entered seven times (35 consecutive button
presses), the keypad will go into an anti-scan mode. This mode disables
the keypad for one minute and the keypad lamp will flash.
The anti-scan feature will turn off after:
• one minute of keypad inactivity,
• pressing the control on the remote entry transmitter,
• or the ignition position changes.
Unlocking and locking the doors and liftgate using keyless entry
To unlock the driver’s door, enter the factory set 5-digit code or your
personal code. Each number must be pressed within five seconds of each
other. The interior lamps will illuminate.
To unlock all doors and liftgate, press the 3 • 4 control within five
seconds of entering the factory set 5-digit code or your personal code.
To lock all doors and liftgate, press the 7 • 8 and the 9 • 0atthe
same time. Note: The driver’s door must be closed. You do not need to
enter the keypad code first.
To open the liftglass, press the 5 • 6 after entering the factory set
5-digit code or your personal code.

4. R: Indicates a “radial” type tire.
5. 15: Indicates the wheel or rim diameter in inches. If you change your
wheel size, you will have to purchase new tires to match the new wheel
diameter.
6. 95: Indicates the tire’s load index. It is an index that relates to how
much weight a tire can carry. You may find this information in your
Owner’s Guide. If not, contact a local tire dealer.
Note: You may not find this information on all tires because it is not
required by federal law.
7. H: Indicates the tire’s speed rating. The speed rating denotes the
speed at which a tire is designed to be driven for extended periods of
time under a standard condition of load and inflation pressure. The tires
on your vehicle may operate at different conditions for load and inflation
pressure. These speed ratings may need to be adjusted for the difference
in conditions. The ratings range from 81 mph (130 km/h) to 186 mph
(299 km/h). These ratings are listed in the following chart.

required by federal law.

Exceeding these limits may allow water to enter vehicle components:
• causing internal damage to the components.
• affecting driveability, emissions and reliability.
Replace the rear axle lubricant any time the axle has been submerged in
water. Rear axle lubricant quantities are not to be checked or changed
unless a leak is suspected or repair required.
RECREATIONAL TOWING
Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational towing. An
example of recreational towing would be towing your vehicle behind a
motorhome. These guidelines are designed to ensure that your
transmission is not damaged.
Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to
prevent exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle. Refer to the Climate
controls chapter for more information.
2WD vehicles: Do not tow your vehicle with any wheels on the ground,
as vehicle or transmission damage may occur. It is recommended to tow
your vehicle with all four (4) wheels off the ground such as when using a
car-hauling trailer. Otherwise, no recreational towing is permitted.
In case of a roadside emergency with a disabled vehicle, see Wrecker
towing in the Roadside Emergencies chapter.
4WD vehicles (Control Trac four-wheel drive system): Do not tow
your vehicle with any wheels on the ground, as vehicle or transmission
damage may occur. It is recommended to tow your vehicle with all four
(4) wheels off the ground such as when using a car-hauling trailer.
Otherwise, no recreational towing is permitted. See your authorized
dealer if you must flat-tow a vehicle equipped with the Control Trac
four-wheel drive system.

while driving in deep sand, very deep snow or more strenuous off-road
maneuvers. This will disable the engine management feature, allowing
the vehicle to maintain full power and enhanced momentum through the
obstacle.
How your vehicle differs from other vehicles
Truck and utility vehicles can differ from some other vehicles. Your
vehicle may be higher to allow it to travel over rough terrain without
getting hung up or damaging underbody components.
The differences that make your vehicle so versatile also make it handle
differently than an ordinary passenger car.
Maintain steering wheel control at all times, especially in rough terrain.
Since sudden changes in terrain can result in abrupt steering wheel
motion, make sure you grip the steering wheel from the outside. Do not
grip the spokes.
Drive cautiously to avoid vehicle damage from concealed objects such as
rocks and stumps.
You should either know the terrain or examine maps of the area before
driving. Map out your route before driving in the area. To maintain
steering and braking control of your vehicle, you must have all four
wheels on the ground and they must be rolling, not sliding or spinning.
Basic operating principles
• Do not use 4H (4x4) or 4L (4x4 LOW) on dry, hard surfaced roads.
This may damage the driveline and axles.
• Drive slower in strong crosswinds which can affect the normal steering
characteristics of your vehicle.
• Be extremely careful when driving on pavement made slippery by
loose sand, water, gravel, snow or ice.
If your vehicle goes off the edge of the pavement
• If your vehicle goes off the edge of the pavement, slow down, but
avoid severe brake application. Ease the vehicle back onto the
pavement only after reducing your speed. Do not turn the steering
wheel too sharply while returning to the road surface.
• It may be safer to stay on the apron or shoulder of the road and slow
down gradually before returning to the pavement. You may lose
control if you do not slow down or if you turn the steering wheel too
sharply or abruptly.

arbitration. During mediation, a representative of the BBB will contact
both you and Ford Motor Company to explore options for settlement of
the claim. If an agreement is not reached during mediation and your
claim is eligible, you may participate in the arbitration process. An
arbitration hearing will be scheduled so that you can present your case
in an informal setting before an impartial person. The arbitrator will
consider the testimony provided and make a decision after the hearing.
You are not bound by the decision, but should you choose to accept the
BBB AUTO LINE decision, Ford must abide by the accepted decision as
well. Disputes submitted to the BBB AUTO LINE program are usually
decided within forty days after you file your claim with the BBB.

for your name and address, general information about your new vehicle,
information about your warranty concerns, and any steps you have

alternative to resolve a disagreement when all other efforts to produce a
settlement have failed. This procedure is without cost to you and is
designed to eliminate the need for lengthy and expensive legal
proceedings.
In the CAMVAP program, impartial third-party arbitrators conduct
hearings at mutually convenient times and places in an informal
environment. These impartial arbitrators review the positions of the
parties, make decisions and, when appropriate, render awards to resolve
disputes. CAMVAP decisions are fast, fair, and final as the arbitrator’s
award is binding both to you and Ford of Canada.
CAMVAP services are available in all territories and provinces. For more

FORD EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN
You can get more protection for your new car or light truck by
purchasing Ford Extended Service Plan (Ford ESP) coverage. It provides

• Benefits during the warranty period depending on the plan you
purchase (such as: reimbursement for rentals; coverage for certain
maintenance and wear items).
• Protection against covered repair costs after your Bumper-to-Bumper
Warranty expires.
