FRONT AIRBAG ON
PASSENGER’S SIDE fig. 15
(for versions/markets, where provided)
It consists of an instant-inflating bag con-
tained into a special recess in the dash-
board: this bag has a bigger volume than
that of the driver.
Do not arrange child seats
facing backwards if the pas-
senger’s front airbag is on. De-
ployment of the airbag in the
event of an accident could
cause fatal injuries to the baby. Always
deactivate the passenger’s airbag
when placing a child seat on the front
seat. Move the passenger’s seat as far
back as possible to avoid contact be-
tween the child seat and the dash-
board. Although this is not mandato-
ry by law, the airbag should be imme-
diately reactivated when children are
no longer carried to ensure better pro-
tection to adults.
WARNING
MANUAL DEACTIVATION
OF FRONT AIRBAG ON
PASSENGER’S SIDE AND SIDE
BAG FOR BREAST/PELVIS
PROTECTION
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Whenever a child needs to be carried on
the front seat, the passenger’s front airbag
and the Side Bag for breast and pelvis pro-
tection (for versions/markets, where pro-
vided) must be deactivated.
The warning light
“on the instrument
panel stays on steady until reactivating the
passenger’s front airbag and the Side Bag
(for versions/markets, where provided).
IMPORTANT To deactivate the passen-
ger’s front airbag and the Side Bag (for ver-
sions/markets, where provided), refer to
paragraphs “Digital display” and “Multi-
functional display” in section “Dashboard
and controls”.

SIDE BAGS
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Some versions have front side bags on
both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
Side bags protect vehicle occupants from
side crashes of medium-high severity, by
placing the bag between the occupant and
the internal parts of the side structure of
the vehicle.
Non-deployment of side bags in other
types of collisions (front collisions, rear
shunts, roll-overs, etc...) does not neces-
sarily indicate a system malfunction.
An electronic control unit causes the bags
to inflate in the event of a frontal crash.
The bags inflate instantaneously placing
themselves between the front occupant’s
body and the structures which could cause
injury. They deflate immediately after-
wards.
Side bags are not a replacement of, but
complementary to, the seat belts, which
you are always recommended to wear, as
specified by law in Europe and in most
non-European countries.
For this reason, the seat belt must be
worn at all times. During side collisions
the seat belts hold the occupant in the
correct position and prevent ejection
from the vehicle during very violent colli-
sions.SIDE BAGS fig. 16
(for versions/markets, where provided)
It consists of an instant-inflating bag
housed in the front seat backrest. It pro-
tects the chest and the hips of the pas-
sengers in the event of side crashes of
medium-high severity.
IMPORTANT In the event of a side crash,
the system provides best protection if the
passenger sits on the seat in a correct po-
sition, thus allowing correct side bag de-
ployment.
IMPORTANT Do not wash the seats with
water or pressurised steam (by hand or at
automatic seat washing stations).

HANDBRAKE
The handbrake lever is located between
the two front seats.
Pull the lever upwards until the vehicle is
blocked to operate the handbrake.
When the handbrake lever is pulled up
and the ignition key is on MAR, the in-
strument panel warning light xwill turn
on.
Proceed as follows to release the hand-
brake:
❒slightly lift the handbrake and press the
release button A-fig. 1;
❒hold button Apressed and lower the
lever. Warning light xon the instru-
ment panel will go out.
Press the brake pedal when carrying out
this operation to prevent the vehicle from
moving accidentally.PARKING THE VEHICLE
Proceed as follows:
❒stop the engine and engage the hand-
brake;
❒engage a gear (on a slope, engage first
gear if the vehicle faces uphill or reverse
if it faces downhill) and leave the wheels
steered.
If the vehicle is parked on a steep slope,
it is advisable to further block the wheels
with a wedge or stone.
Do not leave the ignition key on MARto
prevent draining the battery. Always re-
move the key when you leave the vehi-
cle.
Never leave children unattended in the ve-
hicle. Always remove the ignition key
when leaving the vehicle and take it out
with you. STOPPING THE ENGINE
Turn the ignition to STOPwhile the en-
gine is idling.
IMPORTANT After a demanding drive,
you should allow the engine to “catch its
breath” before turning it off by letting it
idle to allow the temperature in the en-
gine compartment to fall.
A quick burst on the acceler-
ator before turning off the en-
gine serves absolutely no
practical purpose, it wastes
fuel and is damaging especially to tur-
bocharged engines.
fig. 1F0T0043m
The vehicle must be braked
after a few snaps of the
lever, otherwise, contact the Fiat
Dealership for regulation.

CLEANING SEATS
AND FABRIC PARTS
Remove dust with a soft brush or a vacu-
um cleaner. It is advisable to use a moist
brush on velvet upholstery.
Rub the seats with a sponge moistened
with a solution of water and neutral de-
tergent.
CLEANING PLASTIC PARTS
It is advisable to clean interior plastic parts
with a moist cloth and a solution of wa-
ter and mild soap. Remove grease and
tough stains using specific solvent-free
products for cleaning plastic parts specif-
ically designed to prevent damage to the
appearance and colour of the treated
parts.
IMPORTANT Never use spirit or petro-
leum to clean the instrument panel.STEERING WHEEL/GEARBOX
LEVER KNOB/HANDBRAKE
COATED WITH REAL LEATHER
(for versions/markets, where provided)
These components must be cleaned with
mild soap and water only. Never use spir-
it and/or alcohol based products.
Before using specific products for clean-
ing the interiors, carefully read the in-
structions on the product label and ensure
that it does not contain alcohol and/or al-
cohol-based substances.
If drops of the specific product for clean-
ing windows accidentally falls onto the
leather of the steering wheel / gear lever
knob during windscreen window washing,
immediately wipe the drops away and then
wash the area with mild soap and water.
IMPORTANT If a lock device is installed
on the steering wheel, maximum care
must be taken during installation in order
to prevent abrasions of the leather up-
holstery.INTERIORS
Periodically check that water is not trapped
under the mats (due to water dripping off
shoes, umbrellas, etc.) which could cause
oxidisation of the sheet metal.
Never use flammable prod-
ucts, such as petrol, ether or
rectified petrol, to clean the vehicle
interior. The electrostatic charges
which are generated by rubbing dur-
ing cleaning operations may cause a
fire.
WARNING
Do not keep aerosol cans in
the vehicle: risk of explosion.
Aerosol cans must not be exposed to
a temperature exceeding 50°C. When
the vehicle is exposed to sunlight, in-
ner temperature can greatly exceed
this value.
