RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
I f y o u s h o u l d r u n o u t o f f u e l , i t i s n e c e s -
s a r y t o r e - p r i m e t h e c i r c u i t :
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel,
- s q u e e z e a n d r e l e a s e t h e m a n u a l r e - p r i m i n g p u m p , u n d e r t h e b o n n e t
u n d e r t h e p r o t e c t i v e c o v e r , u n t i l f u e l
appears in the transparent pipe,
- o p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r u n t i l t h e e n g i n e starts.
FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF (PETROL)
I n a s e r i o u s c o l l i s i o n , a m e c h a n i s m p r e -
v e n t s f u e l f r o m r e a c h i n g t h e e n g i n e .
T o r e - e s t a b l i s h t h e f u e l s u p p l y , p r e s s
the switch on the corner of the front
r i g h t - h a n d s u s p e n s i o n a s s e m b l y , u n -
der the bonnet.
Air filter and passenger

H a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s r e p l a c e d r e g u -
larly.
I f y o u d r i v e i n d u s t y c o n d i t i o n s ,
c h a n g e t h e m t w i c e a s o f t e n .
Brake pads
Brake pad wear depends on the style
o f d r i v i n g , i n p a r t i c u l a r f o r v e h i c l e s
w h i c h a r e u s e d i n t o w n , o v e r s h o r t
distances.
It may be necessary to check the
thickness of the pads, even between
services.

ECONOMY MODE FUNCTION
After the engine has stopped, with
the key in the "accessories" position,
c e r t a i n f u n c t i o n s ( w i n d s c r e e n w i p e r ,
e l e c t r i c w i n d o w s , c o u r t e s y l i g h t s ,
a u d i o e q u i p m e n t , e t c . ) c a n o n l y b e
u s e d f o r a c o m b i n e d d u r a t i o n o f a p -
p r o x i m a t e l y t h i r t y m i n u t e s , t o p r e v e n t
discharging the battery.
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , a
switching to economy mode mes-
s a g e a p p e a r s o n t h e m u l t i - f u n c t i o n
d i s p l a y a n d t h e a c t i v e f u n c t i o n s a r e
p u t o n s t a n d b y .
T h e s e f u n c t i o n s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u -
tomatically next time the vehicle is
driven.
I n o r d e r t o r e s u m e t h e u s e o f t h e s e
f u n c t i o n s i m m e d i a t e l y , t h e e n g i n e
m u s t b e s t a r t e d a n d l e f t t o r u n f o r a
f e w m i n u t e s .
T h e t i m e a v a i l a b l e t o y o u w i l l t h e n b e
d o u b l e t h e d u r a t i o n f o r w h i c h t h e e n -
g i n e i s l e f t r u n n i n g . H o w e v e r , t h i s p e r i o d
w i l l a l w a y s b e b e t w e e n fi v e a n d t h i r t y
m i n u t e s .
BATTERY
It is advisable to disconnect the
battery if the vehicle is not to be
u s e d f o r a p e r i o d o f m o r e t h a n
o n e m o n t h .
Before disconnecting the bat-
t e r y , y o u m u s t w a i t 2 m i n u t e s
after switching off the ignition.
Never disconnect a terminal
w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g .
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
Close the windows and the roof be-
fore disconnecting the battery.
After every reconnection of the bat-
tery, switch on the ignition and wait
1 m i n u t e b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t o a l l o w t h e
electronic systems to be initialised. If
s l i g h t d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x p e r i e n c e d a f -
ter this, please contact a CITROËN
dealer.
A fl a t b a t t e r y p r e v e n t s t h e
engine from starting.
T o s t a r t t h e v e h i c l e f r o m
another battery:
- Connect the red cable to the positive
(+) terminals of the two batteries,
- Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-) ter-
minal of the slave battery,
- Connect the other end of the green or black cable to an earth
point on the broken down vehicle
as far as possible from the battery
(for example, right-hand engine
m o u n t i n g ) .
O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e r u n .
W a i t f o r t h e e n g i n e t o r e t u r n t o i d l e ,
then disconnect the cables.
To charge the battery using a
battery charger:
- Disconnect the battery,
- F o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e
given by the battery charger man-
u f a c t u r e r ,
- Reconnect starting with the nega- tive (-) terminal,
- Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are
c o v e r e d w i t h s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r
greenish deposit), disconnect
them and clean them.
