Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the instrument cluster,
dEF
will appear in the trip odometer and will stay on. Contact your
authorized Audi dealer to have the problem corrected.
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field . The vehicle cannot be operated
=> page 40.
[ i ] Tips
• The digital c lock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened .
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
digital clock with date display can be switched on for about
30 seconds by pressing the Set/Check button =>
page 12, fig. 2 @ . •

The warning/indicator lights indicate different functions
or a possible malfunction.

Tire pressure monitoring system -telltale
indicator lamp
The warning/indicator light appears in the event of a
significant loss of air pressure.
The f warning/indicator light illuminates for a few seconds after
the ignition is turned on as function check and then goes out.
If the symbol appears, pressure is too low in at least one tire.
When the system detects a malfunction, the warning/indicator light
wi ll flash for approximately one minute and then remain continu
ously illuminated . This sequence wil l continue upon subsequent
vehicle starts up as long as the malfunction exists . Contact your
authorized Audi dealer and have the malfunction corrected.

Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the electr onic
power control.
The warning/indicator light (E lectronic Power Control) illumi -
nates when you switch on the ignition as a function check.
[ i ] Tips
If this warning/ind icator l ight il luminates whi le you are driving, then
there is a malfunction in the engine electronics . Have the malfunc
tion corrected as soon as possible by your authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop. •
Controls and equip

Electronic stabilization program (ESP) ..
The warning/indicator light monitors the electronic stabi
lization program .
The warning/indicator light has the following functions:
• It blinks while you are dr iving, when the ESP is working.
• It illuminates when you switch on the ignition for approximately
2 seconds as a function check.
• It illuminates when there is a malfunction in the ESP.
• It illuminates continuously when the ESP is switched off.
• It illumina tes if there is a malfu nction in the ABS, since the ESP
is part of the ABS system.
I f the ESP warning/indicator light illuminates and stays on afte r you
have started the engine, this may mean that the control system has
temporari ly switched off the ESP. If this is case, you can reactivate
the ESP by switching the ignition off and then on again. The
warning/indicator light should go out to show that the system is
ful ly functional again .

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ::f
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (M IU is part of the On-Board Diag
n ostic (OBD II) system . The symbol ' lights up when the ignition is
turned on and wi ll turn off after the engine has started and has
settled at constant id le speed. This indicates that the MIL is working
proper ly.
The warning light il luminates when there is a malfunction in the
engine electronic system . Contact your aut hori zed Audi dealer and
have the malfunction corrected.

T his war ning/ indic ator ligh t moni to rs the AB S and the
elect ronic diffe ren tial lock (EDL).
The J light wil l come on for a few seconds when the ignition is
swi tc hed on. The light w ill go out aft er a n aut omat ic check seque nce
is completed.
There is a malfunction in the
ABS when :
• T he warning/indicator light does not il luminate when you switch
on the ign ition.
• T he wa rning/indicator light does not go out after a few seconds.
• The wa rnin g/ind ica tor light il luminates wh ile driv in g.
The brake system will still respond even without the assistance of
the ABS system. See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as poss ible to restore full braking performan ce . For more information
regard ing the ABS ~ page 187.
The ABS warning light and the brake warning light come on
together . The ABS will not work and you will notice a change in
braking response and performance .
Malfunction in the brake system USA models: If both, t he
BRAKE warning light and the ,,[ warning
light co me on ~ page 79when the pa rking b ra ke is r eleased, there
may be a mal function in t he ABS , and t here may also be a malfunc
tion in the brake system itself ~ & .
Canada model s: If bo th, the b rake warn ing l ig ht
(Ci) and the ABS
warning light : come on~ page 79when the parking brake is released, there may be a malfunction in the ABS, and there may also
b e a ma lfunc tio n in t he b rake system itself~ & .
Malfun ction in the electronic differential lock (EDL )
T he two sys te m s ED L and ABS w ork together . The L warning ligh t
wi ll come on if there is a malfunction in the EDL system~ page 184.

& WARNING
• If the "warning light does not go out , or if it comes on while
driving , the ABS system is not working properly . The vehi cle can
then be stopped only with the brakes operating without ABS support . You will not have the protection ABS provides . Contact
your Audi dealer as soon as possible.
• USA models : If both , the
BRAKE w arning light and the
warning light come on at the same time, the rear wheels could lock up first under hard braking . Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes
can cause loss of vehicle control and an accident . Have your
vehicle repaired immediately by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop. Drive slowly and avoid sudden, hard brake
appli cation .
• Canada models: If both, the brake warning light CCI» and the ABS
warning light come on at the same time , the rear wheels could
lock up first under hard braking. Lock -up of the rear wheel brakes
c an cause loss of vehi cle control and an a ccident . Have your
vehicle repaired immediately by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop. Drive slowly and avoid sudden , hard bra ke
application •
Electro-mechanical power assist l / @
If the indicato r light i lluminates while you a re d riv ing, t here i s a
malfunction in the e lectro -mechanica l steering . If the indicator light
is showing , there may be a reduction in powe r stee ring assist. If
t h e ind icator light is show ing® , there may be a total loss o f power

cluster provides you, the driver, with importan t informa
tion.

With the ignition on, the display in th e Driver Information System
shows the fo llowing information :
• CD* inser ted or Radio * station se t
• Outside temperature*: At temperatures below 41 °F ( +5 °C), a
snowflake symbol appears in front of the tempe rature display=> &. •
Warning: front lid, door or eng ine compartment lid open: The
d isplay appears i f the door, the engine compartment lid or front lid
is not closed .
• Warning : close fuel tank cap: The Driver information display indi
cates when the filler cap is not secured or missing =>
page 213.

Auto Ch eck Con tro l
Some functions and vehic le componen ts a re scanned for their oper
ating status when you switch the ignition on and while you are
driving. Malfunctions or required service procedures are signa led
audibly and indicated by red and yellow illuminated symbols and
rem inders in the display=>
page 32 .

- Push the [Reset ] button ® for at least two seconds .
You can reset the fo llowing values to zero using the [R eset] button:
• driving time
• distance
• average fuel mileage
• average speed
The trip computer only opera tes when the ignition is on . When you
turn on the ignit ion, the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed.

Some functions in your vehicle can be set, activated, and controlled
by Men us (e.g. Acoustic park assist*) . With these menus you can
also select the informa tion shown in the driver information system ,
which operates only with the ignition switched on . Operation is
controlled by the
I Res et I button and the rocker switch on the wiper
