Automatic dimming for outside mirrors
The outsi de m irr or s are d immed t ogether w it h the au toma tic
dimming of the inside mirror. When the ignition is sw itched on, the
mi rrors dar ken automat ica lly depe nd ing on t he ligh t stri kin g th em
(e.g. headl ights from the rear) .
When the in te rior lighting is switched on and when reve rse gear is
engaged, the mi rrors a re switched back to their or iginal b rightness
(not dimmed) .
& WARNING
The glass of the inside rear view mirror is layered and contains an
electrolyte to achieve its properties. Be aware of liquid electrolyte
leaking from a broken mirror glass . This liquid can cause irr itation
to skin , eyes, and respiratory system . If you get electrolyte in your
eyes or on your skin , immed iately rinse with plenty of water . If irri ­
tation persists, seek medical attention .

• If automatic dimming for the inside mirror is switched off , the
outside mirrors are also not dimmed automatically.
• Automatic d imming for the mirror only operates properly if the

inside mirror is not hindered by other objects .•

Activating or deactivating the compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear view mirror.

To activate or deactivate, hold the @~fig. 56 button
down until the red display appears or disappears.
The digital compass only works with the ignition turned on. The
directions are displayed as initials :
N (North), NE (Northeast), E
(East), SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest), W (West), NW
(Northwest).

To avoid inaccura te directions , do not allow any remote controls,
electrical systems, or metal parts close to the mirror. •

the set magnetic deflection zone appears on the interior
rear view mirror.
Adjust the magnetic deflection zone by repeatedly
pressing on the@ button. The set mode automatically
deactivates after a few seconds . •

Calibrating the compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the display is wrong
or inaccurate.
- Hold the@ button down until the letter C is displayed on
the interior rear view mirror.
- Drive in a circle at a speed of about 5 mph (10 km/h) until
a direction is shown on the interior rear view mirror.
& WARNING
The digital compass is to be used as a directional aid only. Even
though you may want to look at it while you are driving, you must
still pay attention to traffic, road and weather conditions as well
as other possible hazards. •

the rear lid is closed or if a crash occurs. Always make sure that
rear seat passengers cannot be struck when the rear lid is closed.
• When the rear backrest is folded down do not allow passengers
to occupy the load surface available while the vehicle is in motion.
Vehicle occupants must always be properly restrained.
• Never store any heavy, hard objects on the rear lid cover. This
can be hazardous for rear seat occupants if the rear lid is opened
or if the vehicle is braked suddenly or in the event of a crash.
• Loose items inside the passenger compartment, can fly
forward in a crash or sudden maneuver and injure occupants.
Always store articles in the luggage compartment and use the
fastening eyes, especially when the rear seat backs have been
folded down .

Rear window shelf
You can place light articles of clothing on the rear
window shelf behind the seatback.
& WARNING
Whenever you are driving, do not leave any hard objects on the
rear window shelf or allow your pet to sit on the shelf. These could
become a hazard for vehicle occupants in the event of sudden
braking or a crash!
[ i ] Tips
• A vent slot is located between the shelf and the rear window. Do
not block the vent with any items you may place on the rear window
shelf. •
Do not place bulky items on the rear window shelf as they would
restrict or block the driver's vision through the rear view mirror. •

You can increase the available luggage space by folding
the rear seatback down.

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of the
vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's ability to concen­
trate on the road without being distracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and all
of its occupants. If your ability to drive is impaired, safety risks for everybody in the vehicle increase and you also

- Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers or by
using a cellular telephone.
- NEVER drive when your driving ability is impaired (by

and plain common sense.
- ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and weather
conditions.
- Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive for more
than two hours at a stretch.
- Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pressure or when
you are stressed.

Plastic and vinyl
Plastics needs special care.
Use a clean, damp cloth or sponge to remove dust and light surface
dirt. For other soil, use a lukewarm all -purpose cleaning solution or
a mild saddle soap for vinyl trim . Remove water spots and soap
traces with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Use a clean, soft cloth to
rub dry .
Grease, tar or oil stains can be removed with a clean cloth or sponge
soaked with all-purpose cleaner or with a solvent designed espe­
cially to clean vinyl.
Occasionally apply a colorless vinyl or leather preservative to retain
the material's luster and pliability.

Aluminum trim
Use only neutral-pH products to remove spots and deposits from
aluminum surfaces. Chrome care products and alkaline cleaners
will attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Touch-up paint
Minor paint damages should be touched up immediately.
-Use either a touch -up paint stick or spray paint to cover
minor scratches and nicks.
Your Audi dealer has touch-up paint for minor scratches and stone
chips . Scratches should be touched up soon after they occur to
prevent corrosion.

Windows
Clear vision to all sides.
Clean all windows regularly to remove road film and
carwash wax buildup.
- Remove snow from windows using a brush.
- Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice from windows and
mirrors.
- Remove other residue on the windows with a spray-on
glass cleaner.
- Wipe the windows dry with a clean piece of cloth or
kitchen paper towel.

T he best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush . Use a non -abrasive
pla stic ice scraper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ice from w indows and mirrors .
The windows must not be cleaned with insect remover or wax since
these can inter fere with the function of the w inds hie ld w iper blades
(chatter).
Oil, grease o r sil icone residue can be removed with
glass cleaner or
s ilicone remover . However, wax residue requires the use of a
spec ially for mulated solvent . Please contact your Audi dealer for
advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be c leaned on the inside at regular intervals .
Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted surfaces . Wax residue on the chamois can impair vision
t hrough the windows.
& WARNING
• The windshield mu st not be treated with water -repellent mate ­
rials. They c an incre ase gl are under poor v isibility conditions such
a s wetne ss, darkne ss, or when the sun i s low on the hori zon. In
addition , they can cause the wind shield wipers to chatter .
• Alway s read and heed all WARNINGS and other information

• Never use warm or hot water to remove snow and ice from
windows a nd mirrors . This could cause the glass to crack.
• T o prevent damage to the wires of the rear defogger, do not place
any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires.
• T o he lp prevent dirt from scratching the window, always scrape
in a forward direction -pushing the scraper away from you -never
back and forth. •
Weatherstrips

To be able sea l properly, the weatherstrips around the hood, doors,
rear lid, etc . must remain pliable. Spray the weatherstrips with sili­
co ne or coat them w ith ta lcum powder or glycer ine to retain the
f lexibility of the rubber and to protect them against freezing in the
winte r.

If necessary, use a commercial whee l cleaner to remove accumu ­
lated brake dust.
The wheel rims are easier to keep clean if they are reg ula rly coa ted
with l iquid wax. ..
