Trip computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you informati on on current and
average fuel mileage, average speed, fuel range and
driving time .

The following driving information is continuously evaluated by the
t rip computer and can be disp layed sequential ly in the instrument
cluster display.
Fu el ra ng e
The estimated cruising range in miles (km) appears in the disp lay.
This tel ls you how far your vehic le will be ab le to travel on the
current tank of fuel and with the same driving style . The display
changes in increments of 6 miles
(10 km).
The cruising range is calculated based on the fuel consumption for
the last 18 miles (30 km). If you drive conservative ly, the cruising
range will increase.
Ave rage fuel m ileag e
The average fuel economy in MPG (1/100 km) since you last cleared
the memory appears in this display. You can use th is disp lay to
adjust your driving technique to achieve a desired mileage.
C urr ent fu el mi leage
The instantaneous fuel consumption in m iles per gallon 0/100 km)
is shown in this display. You can use th is d isp lay to adjus t your
driving technique to achieve a desired mileage.
Fuel consumption is recalculated at intervals of 33 yards (30
meters) . When the vehicle is stationary, the most recent fuel
consumption is displayed .
Ave ra ge spee d
The average speed in mph (km/h) since the last time the display was
reset appears in the display.
E la p sed time
The length of time that you have been driving since you last reset
the memory appears in this display .

• Fuel consumptions (average and current), range and speed are
displayed in metric units on Canadian models .
• All sto red values will be lost if the vehic le battery is
disconnected .•

Depending on the outside temperature, the mirror surfaces are
heated unti l the ignition is switched off -even if the knob is no

We recommend folding * the outside mirrors flat to he lp when
par king your ve hicle or when maneuvering in very tight spaces .
Memory setting for the outside mirrors*
When the seat position is saved in the memory, the position of the
outside mirrors is saved at the same time~
page 84.
If the position o f the mi rror surface is changed o n a ti lted mirror, this
new pos ition wi ll be automatically saved to th e remote key when th e
vehicle is taken out o f reverse gear.
Tilting the passenger 's side out side mirror (on ly with
seat memory )
When you move the selector lever into R (Reverse), the mirror on the
front passenger's d oor (knob t urn ed to@ ~
page 76, fig. 70) will tilt
s lightly downward. This make is easier for you to see the curb when
you are backing into a parking space .
The mirror returns to its initia l position as soon as reverse gear is
disengaged and vehic le speed is above about 9 mph (15 km/h). The
mirror also returns to its initia l position if the switch is moved to the
driver's outside mirror
0 or the ignition is switched off.
Automatic anti -glare for the outside mirror s*
The outside mir ro rs dim at the same time as the inside mirro r. When
the ign ition is switched on, the mirrors automat ically dim
depending on the amount of light striking the mirrors (such as head ­
lights shining into the vehicle from the rear).
When you turn on the interior light, or wh en you move the selector
lever int o
R (Reverse), the ant i- g lare function stops a nd the mirro rs
return to their original condition (not darkened).

Remember that vehicles or other objects w ill appear smal ler and
f arther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use th is mi rror to
estimate distances of fol lowing vehicles when changing lan es, you
cou ld esti mate incor rect ly a nd cause an acc ident .
• I f the mirror housing is moved un intentionally (for example,
wh ile pa rking your veh ic le), then you must first fold the mirror elec ­
trically . Do not readjust the mirror housing manually. You cou ld
damage the motor which controls the mirror.

If t here s hould be a malfunct io n in the electrica l system, you ca n
sti ll adjust the outside mirrors by pressing the edge of the mirror .•

Automatic dimming for outside mirrors
The outside mirr ors are d immed t oge the r with the au tomati c
dimming of the inside mirror. When the ignition is switched on , the
mir ro rs darken automat ically depending on the light s triking the m
(e.g . headlights from the rear) .
When the interior lighting is switched on and when reverse gear is engaged, the mi rrors are switched back to the ir or iginal br ightness
(not dimmed).
_& WARNING
Broken glass of automatic dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid leakage . Electrolyte fluid c an irritate skin , eyes , and respira ­
tory system .
• Repeated or prolonged exposure to electrolyte can c ause irrita -
tion to the respiratory system , e specially among people with .,_

Warm and cold
Climate control
Description
The air conditioner is fully automatic and is designed to
maintain a comfortable and uniform climate inside the
vehicle.
We recommend the follow ing settings:
- Set the temperature to 75 °F (+23 °C).
- Press the !AUTO
I button.
With this setting, you attain maximum comfort in the least amount
of time. Change this setting, as desired, to meet your personal needs.
The climate controls are a combination of heating, ventilation and cooling systems, which automatically reduce humidity and cool the
air inside your vehicle.
The air temperature, air flow and air distribution are automatically
regulated to achieve and maintain the desired passenger compart­
ment temperature as quickly as possible.
The system automatically compensates for changes in outside
temperature and for the intensity of the sunlight entering the
vehicle. We recommend you use the
Automatic mode=> page 105
for year-round comfort.
Please note the following:
Turn on the air conditioner to reduce humidity in the vehicle. This also prevents the windows from fogging up.
When the outside temperature is high and the air is very humid,
condensation from the evaporator may drip under the vehicle. This
is normal and does not indicate a leak. If the outside temperature is low,
the fan normally only switches to
a higher speed once the engine coolant has warmed up sufficiently.
The air conditioner temporarily switches off when you drive off from
a standstill using full throttle to save engine power.
The compressor also switches off if the coolant temperature is too
high, so that the engine can be adequately cooled under extreme
loads.
Air pollutants filter
The air pollutants filter (a combined particle filter and activated
charcoal filter) reduces or prevents outside air pollution (dust, or
pollen) from entering the vehicle.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specified
in your Warranty
& Maintenance booklet, so that the air conditioner
can properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollution, the filter
may need to be changed more frequently than specified in your
Audi Warranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask your autho­
rized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Key coded settings
The air conditioner settings selected are automatically stored and
assigned to the key being used. When the vehicle is started, the air
conditioner automatically selects the settings assigned to that key.
This way every driver will maintain his/her own personal settings
and does not have to reset them manually.
If a different driver uses your key and changes the air conditioner
settings, the latest adjustments will erase and replace the settings
you have stored.
Energy management
To prevent the battery from being discharged and to restore the
balance of energy, components which require large amounts of

You can adjust the air circulation so that air flows from specific
vents. In position

the driver or passenger and in position

additional combinations available to adjus t air distribu tion as
needed.

Defrosting [@)
The windshield and side windows are rapidly defrosted or
defogged.
- To turn on the defogger/defroster, press the button[@].
- Press[ @] aga in or press !AUTO] to turn off the
defogger/defroster.
Controls and equip ­
ment
Temperature is controlled automatically . The maximum amount of
air flows mainly from the vents below the windshield.

Air recirculation prevents exhaust fumes or other pollu ­
tion from entering the vehicle.
Turning on air recirculation

In the air recircula tion mode , the air in the passenger compartmen t
is recirculated and filtered to prevent exhaust fumes and other
pollution from en tering the vehicle. We recommend that you use the
manual air recirculation under the following conditions:
• when driving through tunnels
• in a traffic jam.
& WARNING
Do not use this setting for extended periods of time. The windows
could fog up since no fresh air can enter the vehicle. If the
windows fog up, press the air recirculation button again immedi­
ately to switch off the air recirculation function or select defrost. •

Changing stored speed
The speed can be changed without touching the acceler­
ator or brake pedal .

speed decreases by 2.5 mph. Canada models: speed will
decrease by one mark on the speedometer scale.

- Press the lever downwards Q and hold it. As long as you
hold the lever down, the light diode display in the speed­
ometer LED display moves backward and the speed is
reduced.
After releasing the lever, the system regulates the speed to the value
just set .

time in the Information line~ page
137.
& WARNING
Improper use of the Adaptive Cruise Control features and inatten­
tion can lead to an accident causing serious personal injury.
• It is dangerous to use the "RESUME" feature when the previ­
ously set speed is too high for existing road, traffic or weather
conditions.
• Always read and heed the information and WARNINGS ~

You can inc rease your spe ed at any time by stepping on the ac celer­
ator pedal. After you release the accelerator pedal, the system
adjust s back down to the speed you previously set . A new desired

The system allows only speeds to be set between 20 to 95 mph (30
t o 150 km/h) to be set. This speed range is faintly illuminated in the
speedometer (LED lights).

• I f you push the lever up to increase (or down to reduce) speed

ACC fun ction ality limited
The message ACC functionality limited appears when the ACC

help the driver check blind spots, and see what is happening in
traffic behind the vehicle::::,

Signal lights are built into both outside mirrors::::, fig. 147. The
signal light on the left outside mirror assists when moving over into the left lane and the signal light on the right outside mirror assists
when moving over into the right
lane.
The signal light comes on to tell you that side assist has detected a
vehicle on that side and that the position of this other vehicle
should be taken into account if you were to change lanes. This is
called the
informational stage signal::::, page 148. The informational
stage signal is designed so that you notice it only when you are
looking in the outside mirror.
When you activate the turn signal and side assist detects a vehicle
in a notable location, the corresponding signal on the outside
mirror flashes briefly and brightly several times. This is the
