The correct tire pressure for the spare wheel is located on a label on
the driver's side 8 -pillar.
Because technical changes may be made to vehicle equipment
during the mode l year, always compare the tire size designation on
the tire pressure label on your vehicle with the tires on your vehicle.
Make sure that the tire size information on the vehicle label is the
same as the size of the tires on the vehicle. This is especially impor
tant if the vehicle belongs to someone else or you bought the
vehic le with different rims/tires or you bought the vehicle as a previ
ously owned vehicle.
Remember, your safety and that of your passengers also depends
on making sure that load l imits are not exceeded. Vehicle load
includes everybody and everything in and on the vehicle . These load
limits are techn ically referred to as the vehicle's Gross Veh icle
Weight Rating ("GVWR"l. The Gross Axle Weight Rating ("GAWR"l is
the maximum load that can be applied at each of the vehicle's two
axles. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and the Gross Axle Weight
Rating are listed on the safety compliance sticker label located on
the driver's side 8-pillar. The tire pressure label on your Audi lists
the maximum comb ined weight of all of the occupants and luggage
or other cargo that the vehicle can carry. For the location of the tire

& WARNING
Overloading a vehicle can cause loss of vehicle control, a crash or
other accident , serious personal injury, and even death .
• Carrying more weight than your vehicle was designed to carry
will prevent the vehicle from handling properly and increase the
risk of a loss of vehicle control.
• The brakes on a vehicle that has been overloaded may not be
able to stop the vehicle within a safe distance.
• Tires on a vehicle that has been overloaded can fail suddenly
causing loss of control and a crash.

• Always make sure that the total load being transported -
including the weight of a trailer hitch and the tongue weight of a
loaded trailer -does not make the vehicle heavier than the
vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating .
& WARNING
• Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can lead to a
serious or fatal accident.
• Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation cause increased
tire wear and can affect the handling of the vehicle.
• Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can also lead to
sudden tire failure, including a blowout and sudden deflation,
causing loss of vehicle control. •
Checking tire pressure
The correct tire pressure for the tires originally installed
on your vehicle is listed on the tire pressure label located
on driver's side 8-pillar.
The recommended tire pressures are on the tire pressure label and
in the table=>
page 327, "Cold tire inflation pressure". This means
that the pressure must be checked and adjusted when the tire has
not been driven for more than a couple of mi les (kilometers) at low
speeds during the previous three hours. Air in the tires expands
when the tire heats up as a result of internal friction as it flexes in
use. The tire pressure is higher when the tire has warmed up than
when it is "cold ."
It is the inflation pressure in a "cold" tire that counts. Therefore, you
should never let air out of a warm tire to match "Cold tire inf lation
pressure" recommendations=>
page 327. The tires wou ld then be
underinflated and could fail suddenly. .,_

• The driver is respon sible for the correct tire pres sures for all
tire s on the vehicle . The applicable pre ssure values are located on
a sticker on the driver 's side B-pillar .
• Only when all tires on the veh icle are filled to the correct pre s
sure , the tire pressure monitoring system can work correctly .
• The use of incorre ct t ire pressure values can lead to a ccidents
or other damage. Therefore it is essential that the driver observe
the specified tire pressure values for the tires and the correct pre s
sures for the function of the tire pressure monitor ing system.
• Always inflate tires to the recommended and corre ct tire pres
sure before driving off.
• Driving with underinflated tires bend more , letting them get
too hot resulting in tread separation, sudden tire failure and loss
of control.
• Excessive speed and /overloading can cause heat build-up ,
sudden tire failure and loss of control.
• If the tire pre ssure is too low or too high, the tires will wear
prematurely and the vehicle will not handle well .
• If the tire is not flat and you do not have to change a wheel
immed iately , drive at reduced speed to the nearest service stat ion
to check the tire pres sure and add air as required.

Dr iving w ithout valve s tem caps can cause damage to the t ire
valves . To prevent this, a lways make sure that factory installed valve
stem caps on a ll whee ls are securely mounted o n the va lve.

Tires and vehicle load limits
There are limits to the amount of load or weight that any vehic le and
any t ir e can carry. A veh icle that is overloaded w il l not handle wel l
and is more difficu lt to stop. Overloading can not only lead to loss
o f veh ic le control, but ca n also damage impor ta nt parts of the
vehic le and can lead to sudden tire failure, inc luding a blowout and
sudde n defla tion that can cause the vehic le to crash .
Your sa fety and that o f your passen gers also depends on mak ing
sure that load limits are not e xceeded. Vehicle load includes every
body and everythi ng in and on the veh ic le. T hese load lim its a re
technica lly referred to as the vehicle's
Gross Vehi cle We ight Rating
(" GVWR") .
T he "GVWR" includes the weight of the basic vehic le, all factory
insta lled acces so ries, a ful l ta nk of fuel, oil, coolant an d othe r flui ds
p lus maximum load. The maximum load inc ludes the number o f
p asse ngers that the vehicle is inte nded t o carry ("sea ting capacity")
w ith an assu med we ight o f 150 l bs (68 kg) fo r each passe nger at a
designated seating position and the total weight of any luggage in
t he vehicle. If you tow a trailer, the we ig ht o f the tra iler h itch an d th e
tongue weight of the loaded trailer must be included as part of the
ve hicle l oad.
The
Gross Axle Weight Rating !"GAWR") is t he maximum load that
can be applied a t each of the vehicle's two ax les.
The Gross Veh icle Weig ht Rating and t he G ross Axle Weig ht Rat ing
are listed on the safety comp liance sticker labe l located on the
d river 's s ide B -pi llar . Y o ur Au di h as 5 s eating positi ons, 2 i n the fro nt

The fact that th ere is an upper limit to your vehicle's Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating means that the total weight of whatever is being
carried in the vehic le (includ ing the we ight of a trai ler hitch and the
tong ue weight of the loaded trai ler) is limited. The more passengers
i n the v ehicle or pass engers wh o are heavie r than t he sta nd ard
we ights assumed mean that less weight can be ca rried as luggage . .,_

The tire pressure indicator in the instrument cluster
informs you if the tire pressure is too low or if there is a
sys tem malfunc tion.

Using th e ABS sensors , th e t ire pr essur e monitoring system
c o m pares the tire tread ci rcu mference and vi bration character istics
of the individua l tires . If the pressure decreases in one or mor e tires,
th is is ind icated in the inst rumen t cl uster w ith a warning symbol,
and a message=> fig. 252. The driver message in the display goes
ou t af ter 5 sec onds. T he driver message can be dis pl ayed again by
pressing the [ CH ECK ] button. If only on e tire is affected, the display
will indicate its position . T
he tire pressure monitoring must be reset via MMI each time the
press ures are adjus ted (e .g . when swi tchi ng between par tial and
fu ll load pressu re) or after changing or replacing a tire on your
veh icle =>

Tire tread circumference and vibration characteristics can change
and cause a tire pressure war ning if:
• the tire pressu re in one or more t ires is too low,
• t he tire has st ructura l damage,
• the tire pressure was changed, wheels rotated or replaced but
t he TP MS was no t r eset =>

& WARNING
• If the tire pressure indicator appears in the instrument cluster
display, one or more of your tires is significantly under -inflated.
Reduce your speed immediately and avoid any hard steer ing or
braking maneuvers. Stop as soon as possible and check the tires
and their pressures. Inflate the tire pressure to the proper pressure
as indicated on the vehicle's tire pressure label =>
page 321.
Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to over
heat and can lead to tire failure . Under- inflation also is l ikely to
impair the vehicle's handling and stopping ability .

- Disengage and lower the floor panel before you close the
luggage compartment lid again.
Storing the replaced wheel
- Place the replaced wheel inside the spare wheel well in
the luggage compartment .
Tighten the knurled retaining screw clockwise to secure the wheel in place.
- Disengage and lower the floor panel before you close the
luggage compartment lid again.
& WARNING
Loose items in the passenger compartment can cause serious
personal injury during hard braking or in an accident .
• Never store the spare wheel or jack and tools in the passenger
compartment.
• Always store all jacking equipment, tools, and the spare wheel
in the luggage compartment.
• Tighten the knurled retaining screw for the spare wheel
securely.

Check the inflation pressure of the spare tire periodically to keep the
tire ready for use. •
Changing a wheel
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own and your
passenger's safety when changing a wheel.
- After you experience a tire failure, pull the car well away
from moving traffic and try to reach level ground before
you stop :::;. & .
- All passengers should leave the car and move to a safe
location (for instance, behind the guardrail) :::;,& .
- Engage the parking brake to prevent your vehicle from
rol ling unintentionally :::;.& .
- Move selector lever to position P :::;. & .
-If you are towing a trailer: unhitch the trailer from your
vehicle.
- Take the jack and the spare tire out of the luggage
compartment:::;.

You or your passengers could be injured while changing a wheel if
you do not follow these safety precautions:
• If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance off the road. Turn off
the engine, turn the emergency flashers on and use other warning
devices to alert other motorists.
• Make sure that passengers wait
in a safe place away from the
vehicle and well away from the road and traffic.
• To help prevent the vehicle from moving suddenly and possibly
slipping off the jack, always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being changed. When one ...

front wheel is lifted off the ground, placing the Automatic Trans
mission in "P" {Park) will
not prevent the vehicle from moving.
• Before you change a wheel , be sure the ground is level and firm.
If necessary, use a sturdy board under the jack.
• After installing the spare wheel, make sure that you replace the
flat tire/wheel in its storage area properly and tighten the knurled
retaining screw securely. •
Changing a vvheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence described
below step-by-step and in exactly that order.
1. Act ivate the vehicle jack mode (only vehicles with Adap
tive Air Suspension) ~
page 186.
2. Remove the decorative wheel cover*. For more details
see also ~
page 346, "Decorative wheel covers".
3. Loosen the
wheel bolts ~ page 346.
4. Locate the proper mounting point for the jack and align
the jack below that point~
page 347.
5. Lift the car with the jack~ page 347.
6. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and then install the
spare
~ page 348.
7. Tighten all wheel bolts lightly.
8.
Lower the vehicle with the jack.
9. Use the wheel bolt wrench and
firmly tighten all wheel
bolts

10. Replace the decorative wheel cover*.

After changing a vvheel
A wheel change is not complete without the doing the
following.
- Store and secure the wheel you replaced in the spare
wheel well.
- Replace the tools and the jack in their proper location.
-Check the tire pressure on the spare wheel immediately
after mounting it.
- As soon as possible, have the
tightening torques on all
wheel bolts checked with a torque wrench. The correct
tightening torque is 90 ft lb (120 Nm).
- Have the flat tire
replaced as soon as possible.

• If you notice that the wheel bolts are corroded and difficult to
turn while changing a tire, they should be replaced before you check
the tightening torque.
• Drive at reduced speed until you have the tightening torques
checked. a

• Do not loosen the wheel bolts more than one turn before you
raise the vehicle with the jack . - You risk an injury.
[ i J Tips
• Never use the hexagonal socket in the handle of the screwdriver
to loosen or tighten the wheel bolts .
• If a wheel bolt is very tight, you may find it easier to loosen by
carefully pushing down on the end of the wheel bolt wrench with
one foot only . As you do so, hold on to the car to keep your balance
and take care not to slip .•
Rais ing the vehicle
The vehicle must be lifted with the jock first before the
wheel con be removed.

- Position the jack below the door sill under the mounting

one locat ion for each wheel. The jack must not be
positioned at any other location

An unstable surface under the jack can cause the vehicle to slip off
the jack . Always provide a firm base for the jack on the ground. If
necessary place a sturdy board or similar support under the jack. On
hard, slippery surfaces (such as tiles) use a rubber mat or similar to
prevent the jack from slipping=> &. .,_

- Screw the th readed end of the a lignment pin from the
tool k it hand-tight into the em pty bolt hole~ page 348,
fig. 264 .
- Then remove the other w heel bolts as described above.
- Take off the wheel leaving the al ignment pin in the bolt
hole.
Putting on the spar e wheel
- Lift the spare whee l and carefully slide it over t he align
ment pin to g uide it in place .
- Use the hexagonal socket in the screw drive r ha ndle t o
screw in a nd tighten a ll w heel bol ts slightly .
- Remove the alignment p in and insert and tighten the
remaini ng wheel bol t slightly like the rest.
- Turn the jack hand le counter -clockwise to lower the
ve hicle until the jack is fully released .
- Use the wheel bolt wrench to tighten all wheel bolts
firmly ~ page 346 . Tighten them crosswise, from one
bolt to the (approximately) opposite one, to keep the
wheel centered .

Never use the hexagonal socke t in the hand le of the screwdriver to
loosen or tighten the wheel bolts .
• Pull the reversible blade from the screwdriver before you use the
hexagonal socket in the hand le to turn the wheel bo lts .
• When mounting tires with
unidire ctional tre ad de sign make sure
t he tread pattern is po inted the right way~
page 349.
• T he wh ee l bolts should b e clean and easy to turn . Check for dirt
and corrosion on the mating surfaces of both the wheel and the hub
. Remove all dirt from these surfaces before remounting the
wheel. •
Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be mounted
with their tread pa ttern pointed in the right dire ction .
Using a spare tire with a tread patte rn intended f or use
in a s pec ific direc tio n
When using a spare tire with a t read pattern intended for use in a
specific direction, please note the following :
• The direction of rotation is marked by an arrow on the side of the
tire .
• I f the spare tire has to be insta lled in the incorrect direction, use
the spare t ire only temporarily since the tire will not be ab le to
achieve its optimum performance characteristics wi th regard to
aquaplaning , noise and wear.
• We recommend that you pay particular attention to this fact
dur ing wet weather and that you ad just your speed to match road
conditions .
• Replace the flat tire with a new one and have it installed on your
vehicle as soon as p ossible to res tore the handling advantages of a
unidirectional tire. •
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information~ page 329, "New tires and replacing
tires and whee ls" if you are going to use a spare tire which is
different from the tires on your vehic le.
