• For technical reasons, it is not genera lly possible to use the
wheel rims from other vehic les. This can hold true for wheels of the
same vehicle type.
• If the spare tire is different from the tires that you have mounted
on your vehicle (for example winter tires or wide profile t ires), then
use the spare tire for a short period of time only and drive with extra
care. Rep lace the flat tire with the tire matching the others on your
vehic le as soon as possible.
• If you should put different wheels and tires on your vehic le (e.g.
winter wheels and tires), you must be certain that the wheels and
tires are compatib le with the tire pressure monitoring system.
Otherwise the system will register a malfunction and a fault
message will be displayed . For more information, contact your Aud i
dea ler.

• When insta lling new tires, be carefu l not to damage the valves or
t ire pressure monitoring system* senso rs.
• Never drive without the va lve stem cap. The va lves could get
damaged.
• If the sensors must be replaced, then the valve must also be
replaced at the same t ime.

All passenger car tires must conform to Federa l Safety Require­
ments in addition to these grades.
Tre ad w ear
The tread wear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate
of the tire when tested under con trol led conditions on a specified
government test course.
F o r exam ple, a tire g raded 150 would wear one and one half (1 1/2)
times as well on the government course as a tire graded 100 .
The relative performance of tires depends upon the actual condi ­
tions of the ir use, however, and may depart significantly from the
norm due to variations in driving habits, service practices and differ ­
ences in road cha racteristics and c limate .
Tra ction
The traction grades, from highest to lowest , are AA, A, Band C.
Those grades represent the tire's ability to stop on wet pavement as
measu red under contro lled conditions on specified government
test surfaces of asphalt and concrete. A tire marked C may have
poor traction performance =>
/.1.
Temperatur e
The temperature grades are A (the highest), B, and C, representing
the tire 's resistance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissi ­
pate heat when tested under contro lled conditions on a specified
indoor laboratory test wheel.
Sus tained high temperature can cause the material of the ti re to
degenerate and reduce tire life, and excessive temperature can lead
to sudden tire failure=>

The grade C corresponds to a level of performance which all
passenger car tires must meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle

Before storing the jack, make sure it is wound back down as far as it
wi ll g o.
After use , the jack and tools must be put back in place underneath
the floor panel in the luggage compartment .

& WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle ja ck can cause serious personal inju­
ries .
• Using a bumpe r jack to raise the vehicle will damage the
bumper system . The jack may slip , causing injury .
• Never support your vehicle on cinder blocks , bricks or other
objects . These may not be able to support the load and could
c ause injury when they fail.
• Never start o r run the engine while the vehicle is supported by
the jack.

• If you must work under the vehicle, always use safety stands
specifically designed for this purpose .
• Never try and use the hexagonal socket in the handle of the
screwdriver to loosen or tighten the wheel bolts.
• Always make sure the spare tire and even a flat tire are secured
in pla ce and not loose , otherwise they could fly forward , causing
personal injury to passengers in the vehicle in an accident or
s udden maneuver .
• Never use the jack supplied with your Audi on another vehicle,
particularly on a heavier one. The jack i s only suitable for use on
the vehicle it came with. •

the table.
• Do not drive faster than 50 mph (80 km/h) - risk of accident!
• Avoid full-throttle acceleration, sharp braking, and fast
cornering - risk of accident!
• Never drive using more than one space-saving spare wheel -
risk of accident!
• Normal summer or winter tires must not be fitted on the space­
saving spare wheel rim. •
Wheel change
Before changing a wheel
Follow these points for your own and your passenger's
safety when replacing a wheel.
-After you experience a tire failure, pull the car well away
from moving traffic and try to reach level ground before
you stop => & .
- All passengers should leave the car and move to a safe
location (for instance, behind the guardrail)=>& .
- Apply the parking brake firmly=>&.
- Move selector lever to position Pon an automatic trans-
mission; put manual transmission in first gear =>& .
- If you are towing a trailer: unhitch the trailer from your
vehicle.
- Take the tool case and the spare tire=>
page 290 out of
the luggage compartment.
& WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while changing a wheel if
you do not follow these safety precautions:
• If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance off the road. Turn off
the engine, turn the emergency flasher on and use other warning devices to alert other motorists .
• Make sure that passengers wait in a safe place away from the
vehicle and well away from the roadway and traffic.
• To help prevent the vehicle from moving suddenly and possibly
slipping off the jack, always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being changed. When one
front wheel is lifted off the ground, placing the Automatic Trans­
mission in "P" (Park), or engaging a gear in a manual transmission
will
not prevent the vehicle from moving .
• Before you change a wheel, be sure the ground is level and firm.
If necessary, use a sturdy board under the jack.
• After installing the spare wheel, make sure that you remount
the flat tire/wheel in its storage area properly and tighten the
knurled retaining screw securely. •
Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence described
below step-by -step and exactly in that order.
1. Remove the decorative wheel cover*. For more details
see also =>
page 294, "Decorative wheel covers" or
=>
page 295, "Wheels with cap-covered wheel bolts".
2. Loosen the wheel bolts=>
page 295.
3. Locate the proper mounting point for the jack and align
the jack below that point=>

- Push the plastic clip provided with the onboard tool kit
down over the wheel bolt cap until it engages.
- Pull on the properly engaged plastic clip to extract the
cap:::> fig. 217.
Refitting
- Place the caps over the wheel bolts and push them back
1n.
The caps are there to protect and keep the wheel bolts clean.•
Loosening and tightening the wheel bolts
The wheel bolts must be loosened before raising the
vehicle.

-Fit the wheel bolt wrench over the wheel bolt and push it
down as far as it will go.
- Close your grip around the end of the wrench handle for
maximum torque and turn the wheel bolts counter-clock­
wise about one single turn in the direction of arrow

Tightening Fit the wheel bolt wrench over the wheel bolt and push it
down as far as it will go.
- Close your grip around the end of the wrench handle for
maximum torque and turn each wheel bolt clockwise
until it sits tight. .,

& WARNING
• You or your passengers could be injured while changing a
wheel if you do not follow safety precautions:
-Mounting the jack under the vehicle at any other place than
indicated above may damage the vehicle or may result in
personal injuries.
- A soft or unstable surface under the jack may cause the
vehicle to slip off the jack . Always provide a firm base for the
jack on the ground.
If necessary , use a sturdy board under the
jack .
- On hard, slippery surface (such as tiles ) use a rubber mat or
similar to prevent the jack from slipping .
• To help prevent injury to yourself and your passengers :
- Do not raise the vehicle until you are sure the jack is securely
engaged.
- Passengers must not remain in the vehicle when it is jacked
up.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe place away from
the vehicle and well away from the roadway and traffic .
- Make sure jack position is correct , adjust as necessary and
then continue to raise the jack. •

• Check the tire pressure on the spare immediately after
mounting.
• Have the wheel bolt t ightening torque checked with a torque
wrench as soon a s possible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified se rvice station .
• On steel and alloy wheel rims , the wheel bolts are correctly tight­
ened with a torque of 90
ft lb 1120 Nm ).
• If you notice while changing a tire that the wheel bolts are
corroded and diffi cult to turn while changing a tire , they should be
replaced before you check the tightening torque .
• Replace the flat tire with a new one and have it installed on your
vehicle as soon as possible . Remount the wheel cover.
Until then , drive with extra care and at reduced speeds .
& WARNING
• If you are going to equip your vehicle with tires or r ims which
differ from those which were factory installed , then be sure to read
the information
~ page 279 , "New tires and replacing tires and
wheels ".
• Always make sure the damaged wheel or even a flat tire and
the jack and tool kit are properly secured in the luggage compart ­
ment and are not loose in the passenger compartment .
• In an accident or sudden maneuver they could fly forward ,
injur ing anyone in the vehicle .
• Always store damaged wheel , jack and tools securely in
luggage compartment . Otherwise , in an accident or sudden
maneuver they could fly forward, causing injury to passengers in
the vehicle .

The electric power windows and the electric seat adjusters are
protected with circuit breakers which reset automatically after the
circuit overload has been corrected .
[ i] Tips
• Whenever replacing a fuse, always consult the sticker on the
inside of the fuse panel cover. It contains the most up-to-date infor­
mation regarding the fuse arrangement . If in doubt, ask your autho­
rized Audi Service advisor.
• Some of the equipment items listed are optional or only avail­
able on certain model configurations. •
Bulbs
Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have your autho­
rized Audi dealer replace burned out bulbs for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more difficult to replace
vehicle light bulbs since in many cases, other parts of the car must first be removed before
you are able to get to the bulb. This applies
especially to the light bulbs in the front of your car which you can
only reach through the engine compartment.
Sheet metal and bulb holders can have sharp edges that can cause
serious cuts, and parts must be correctly taken apart and then prop­
erly put back together to help prevent breakage of parts and long
term damage from water that can enter housings that have not
been properly resealed.
For your safety, we recommend that you have your authorized Audi
dealer replace any bulbs for you, since your dealer has the proper
tools, the correct bulbs and the expertise.
Gas discharge lamps (xenon lights)*:
Due to the high electrical voltage, have the bulbs replaced by a qual­
ified technician. Headlights with xenon light can be identified by the
high voltage sticker.
& WARNING
Contact with high-voltage components of the electrical system
and improper replacement of gas discharge (Xenon) headlight
bulbs can cause serious personal injury and death.
• Xenon bulbs are pressurized and can explode when being
changed.
• Changing Xenon lamps requires the special training, instruc­
tions and equipment.
• Only an authorized Audi dealer or other qualified workshop
should change the bulbs in gas discharge lamps.
& WARNING
There are parts with sharp edges on the openings and on the bulb holders that can cause serious cuts .
